Olso, Norway, hit by explosions

And who are behind them, according to you?

If you look at the media, they've all been quick to point the finger at Muslims and Islamist groups, so I doubt you'll get "flamed".
In all honesty, they've been very careful not to point out who they believe is behind this. There has been speculation just like in this thread, but no more than what you, yourself has brought forth. You're pretty quick to point fingers at other...

The police suspects the 32 year old they've apprehended is a extremist on the right. An ethnic Norwegian. Supposedly an act against the political system in Norway... I'm guessing it's more to it than an act of insanity then..

I'd be very surprised if Muslims weren't involved in this one. We'll know soon enough.

It'd probably be too much to expect you to acknowledge you were wrong. Oh well.

Ah....so you just got the Nord version of Timothy McVeigh?

Pretty much.

It's pretty much an Irate, Right-winger, angry at the Norweigen government.

Ah....so you just got the Nord version of Timothy McVeigh?

Might be pretty much exactly that. We'll know things more certainly in a day or two, I guess. If it is just the lone dedicated nut then I am relieved for at least two different reasons.

And, well, I hope that eventually we can paraphrase the classical historian's revenge: "I know his name, but I will not record it for posterity". May his name pass into oblivion.

How long before Norway becomes a police state?
I think, if the reports are true, that there's less risk of that happening than if it had been Islamists.

I just got done listening to a sensationalist-seeking talking head on CNN claiming that simply because he was Nordic doesn't mean he isn't working for the Muslim jihad, which will eventually engage in terrorist attacks against Scandanavians for defiling their beliefs.

I also found it interesting that suspicion was leveled towards a Kurdish terrorist group which has recently made threats against Norway if one of their leaders was deported from Norway. Apparently, even the CIA tried to abduct him despite GWB largely ignoring Kurdish terrorism ever since trying to topple Hussein.

And the Al-Qaida keeps getting mentioned. Have they ever publicly objected to the cartoons?

True.

I guess that in the hours when Islamic terrorists were the main suspects, the right wing party were preparing how to capitalize on this politically.

With the latest development they might still get in the spotlight, but for entirely different reasons.

I was passing in front of Utøya by car when the tragedy unfolded.

Got stuck there between police, ambulances, special forces, and so on.
They needed help to bring some of kids back to a safe centre a few KM north where they could receive professional support.
So we got two of them in our car and offered a few others to use my phone to make calls home.

All the kids were in shock and extremely cold.
They really appreciated a warm hug and good words (to don't mention warm coffee and food that I had with me)
Their tales were really amazing!

I will write more about it later on... it's midnight here and I had a very long day today

Good job :goodjob:

Glad you could help some of them.

Regarding the political affiliations of the apprehended, it's unclear. I've seen speculation about the possibility of him being an afghan-vet or perhaps a person with extreme Islamic values. Not sure if the earlier reports about the extreme right are more certain..

I didn't know there was such an extreme right in Norway, I thought it got flushed out after WWII.

The place seem to be a bit off so I guess they're lucky you were passing by, or were there other people around too that could help?

The Utøya event seems to be worse considering some of the victims were kids.

Let's see how this is being treated by the Murdoch press-

You must have an awfully placid history if neo-fascist terrorism can only be chalked up to "insanity".
