Only 30 Civs in base game (+ Shawnee)

The odd thing with Augustus to me is that his art from his twitter post is a completely different vibe than his in game model. His hair is nicer and he looks a lot more mature. I'm completely fine with his current in-game portrayal, it's funny and unique, but did they have something else planned initially? Are they planning on altering things due to the backlash? It's not really a vital question, just one I've been thinking about.

Honestly, all the leader art portraits are giving me strong "this time it's bisexuals' turn" vibes, and I'm here for it. Not that VI wasn't very much the same situation.

We can’t say for sure whether or not they’re planning on adjusting things, but it should be noted that they adjusted Teddy’s model between the Civ VI and the launch. It’s not without precedent
Infamously, Seondeok's as well. They just gave Teddy some liposuction, but Seondeok got a thorough overhaul after the Korean community complained.

And yet no one is complaining about poor Confucius looking so squatly compared to the other prima ballerina leaders in this game. (I do not care about Ben Franklin looking like a potato, he's fine that way).

I'm certainly not complaining; Confucius' model has more personality than any other leader in the game. :p

I’m not expecting Hawaii or similar because I think that part of the world would demand its own art style, something they would likely want to show off.
And yet they already have shown it off, apparently!

Also this, where we seem to have spotted exploration era architecture I guess (although I'm not sure if specifically Polynesian assets were spotted).

I might've lost track of the discussion on it but I think I figured out some Polynesian stuff. Now that we have good pictures of Khmer cities, I compared the Polynesian scene and found that the generic architecture is clearly from the exploration era, matching the picture with the non-Byz southeast Asian mystery palace. As the Polynesia scene includes the units with mahiole hats, this would mean no modern era Hawaii - but also no ancient era "Polynesia" blob.

We also see what might be a City Hall or unique building, as well as a potential wonder:

An interesting side effect: This allows establishing 12 civs for the exploration era without relying on wonders:
Abbasid, Bulgaria, Chola, Hawaii, Inca, Indonesia, Ming, Mongolia, Normandy, Shawnee, Songhai, Spain.

There might be some variations possible, like Bulgars being someone else from the area. But I think the number is fairly safe. Which gives hope that the 11 pips shown on stream were due to some civs being removed from the build either to mislead us or because they were too unfinished to be included in a playable build. A bit of caution remains, of course, as it could still be 11 civs with the Shawnee separated into a DLC already. Hopefully we see them selecting the Shawnee from a Mississippians start tomorrow on stream and then we'll have clarity.

I like the thought experiment of slightly rizzing up the Augustus model. I think a big thing that makes him look so cildish is his poofy hair. quick test during work hours.

Granted that the Beatles haircut isn't helping, the issue isn't the details but the overall shape. Cutting off his hair and adding lines to his face don't make him look any more like who he's supposed to be.

If you look at his contemporary portraits, though they very, you get a sense of what he looked like... and the consistent attributes are his strong nose and wide, angular face. Both of which are missing in the current ingame representation.

This guy isn't balding or have lines on his face or a five-o'clock shadow, but he also doesn't look like a teenager.

I think his hair just needs to be a bit curlier to break up the "bowl" shape.

Firaxis, please hire him a lil hairdresser. Just a little feathering, a little curling, some spritz or pomade. He could be fabulous.

This one makes it look like if you zoom out he's going to have paws and a tail

30 seems like alot, imo. You're all just spoiled. Why, when I was your age...
30 is a lot of dev work, and it would be a lot of choice if this were Civ6, but it's not when it's Civ7 and civilizations are Age-specific and there are only 10 choices per Age. Comparison to past iterations is... imperfect.
