Open Spots in NES.

Oh i'm well aware of the meaning. I'm just joking about since you've used it in both your NES :)

Try getting out the other side of bed next time yea? sheesh...

There is one spot open in SLNES I: Masters of Ethereal. You'd be starting late, but would get an advanced start. I'm looking for someone who will be slightly active. This is for players who wish to culture-build and who enjoy fantasy settings.

A lot of nations are open in my NES, LizNES5: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying, And Love The Bomb. Two updates posted thus far, and going strong. The game is fairly free form, and is still in it's earlier stages, so it'd be an ideal time to join. The nations still open (off the top of my head) are-

The Maritime Provinces
Mexico
Yucatan Republic
The Caribbean Republic
Brazil
Paraguay
Argentina
Chile
The Soviet Republic of Bavaria
Poland
Romania
Serbia
Greece
Crimea
The Soviet Republic of Daghestan
The Kazakh Soviet
Georgia
Pakistan
China
The Central Asian Republic
The West African Socialist Republic
The Malagasy Republic
Angola
Mozambique
Denmark
Sweden
Finland
The Austrian Empire
The Kingdom of Venetia and Naples
The Azerbaijan Soviet
Arabia
The Egyptian Empire
The Ethiopian Empire
Great Nigeria
Liberia

etc...

A lot of open spaces, and it's still early in the game. Africa and the Soviets have a severe lack of players, so I'd prefer they be filled. But really, take whatever you want. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I have a spot in DarthNES II - Superpowers that needs filling. Nigeria (the open nation) has a significant amount of banked income and some nice space in which to expand. You would be starting late (Update 7 is around the corner), but Nigeria is one of the better off countries, so it makes up for it.

Here we go!

INES III: Storm Tapestry is a near future state NES. It’ll be an interesting experiment for two reasons.

1) Its ‘N’ doesn’t really apply. I plan to end updates after eight or possibly nine turns. Since I have a decent track record with running games, joining now will get you in on the ground floor of a clear-cut bounded NES.

2) Orders each turn are limited to 1 PM. I’ve noticed that players don’t all have the same amount of time to put into the game, and I’m hoping to compensate for that.

There is no secret corollary to #2. I’m not trying to reduce my workload for the NES. Indeed, I have a lot of free time coming up, so count this post as personal encouragement to join up. Honestly, I’m hoping for no NPCs, because that’s a different dynamic than this forum’s used to.

I am allowing 1 more player to join SLNES I: Masters of Ethereal. You will start with a smaller realm than all players, but you will be given a large amount of gold in your coffers and mana crystals in your Citadel.

This is a fantasy-world 'fresh start'. Each player is a powerful Wizard commanding an entire realm/kingdom. You will get to design your own units and spells. Please read the ruleset before expressing interest.

Requirements: PM me some kind of writing sample / example of your orders. You must also not flake out on the game. It can be as time-consuming as you want it to be - it doesn't have to take up a lot of time. Stories are optional, but are highly encouraged (to be honest, I am kind of looking for another story-teller, but I'm willing to hear out anyone who is interested). I am looking for someone who actually wants to play and who is interested in playing the NES, not someone who wants to just try it out and see how it goes. And remember, it is technically a 'fresh start', so if you're looking to immediately start a bunch of huge fantasy-world battles - you're out of luck.

Once again, my mod Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb is open for more/new players. We're still at a point where a lot has to be decided, and their are no clear cut 'powers'.

As of now, the world has sort of sliced itself into various alliances with different goals. Some minor wars have broken out, along some rebellion in the remaining European colonies. The game is very open ended, so you can create your own style nation, and run things the way you'd want (within reason.) since it's wildly fictional, their isn't a big establishment on whats OOC yet, so you aren't exactly bound to play the same way for 20 turns to ensure that you are indeed playing IC.

A lot of nations are still open, and like I said, it's at a point where one could still technically get ahead fairly easily.

Hello NES-world. For all of you fantasy role-playing, D&D folks, SLNES I: Masters of Ethereal is now accepting character players. There is really no limit of how many character players I will be accepting (for now). If you decide to do this, please read the following. Then post in this PreNES (OOC) thread. Once approved, you may begin posting stories in the main game thread.

Spoiler Playing a Character :
Playing a Character
You may look at the rules and think that Ethereal is soaked in complicated inter-Wizard, kingdom-based intrigue. You are right about that, but such a gameplay style may not be suited for you. Perhaps you are more interested in writing stories about the rich world that Ethereal is, and going through the world with more focused aspirations. For you, playing a single character might be more interesting.

Here are some notes on what you must remember as a character:

1. Everything you do usually has absolutely zero impact on the statistics or outcomes of events involving kingdoms and their affairs. Even so, players of powerful Wizards should still interact with characters when appropriate. However, you can be funded by a kingdom, which is no different than a kingdom giving gold to a certain project like building a market or exploring a certain area. In this case, you are not giving the kingdom any special advantage, but are simply a role-playing outlet for that activity.

2. That said, you can still join a kingdom and play within a kingdom or ally yourself with a Wizard. In such an event, you will be nothing more than another character in that realm. You can write about events that are occurring within that realm or battles that kingdom has fought from a soldier's perspective (for example). You cannot, however, as stated in Rule #1, alter the outcome of anything.

3. Playing a character is entirely story-driven. You have no orders to submit. You simply post a story about what your character is doing in the thread.

4. And that said, your stories can, in no way, effect the world or other players in some significant way unless approved by the moderator (me). This means your actions can effect the world and players, but not unless such is approved by me, thus included in the update.

5. You can only travel throughout the known world, which means the world that has been explored.

6. We are all mature, sane individuals (uh). When it comes to equipment and what you do, please be reasonable and please do not power-game. The moment you begin to power-game, is the moment you die. No, you cannot find the Uber-Death Sword and conquer the world. You can, however, travel around and interact with various NPCs with the knowledge given to other players so far in this game - thus elaborating on the history, culture, flora, fauna, and all other aspects of what I desire to be a fully breathing fantasy world.

7. In a way, as a character you have a lot of freedom to write about certain aspects of the world - you are basically a 'master of fluff' moreso than a 'master of Ethereal'.

All of this written and read, it is time to look at what you need for a profile to play a character/player.

Name of Character / Player Name
Race: High Men, Barbarian, High Elf, Dark Elf, Dwarf, Goblin, Halfling, Orc, Gnoll, Beastman - self-explanatory!
Hometown: Where are you from? Please provide a city or castle shown on the map.
Occupation: Do you have a job or specialty? If so, what is it?
Skills: This is going to be simple. See below.
Inventory: What do you currently carry?
Physical Description: What do you look like?
Background: Who are you and why are you adventuring around Ethereal?

As for skills. These are merely descriptive words for people to further understand your character. Your character is at least a little bit special, otherwise he/she wouldn't be going out on the open road. Each character can have 2 special skills. These should be as specific as possible. Don't give me stuff like, "Weapons" - rather, give me, "Sword-fighting" or "Dueling" even. Don't give me something like, "Magic", but rather give me - "Confusion Magic" (even elemental magics are too vague - be more specific). Don't say "Running" but say, "Long-Distance" or "Sprinting". And so on. Remember, these are simply descriptive elements. However, if your stories are good, I'll let you add onto skills. This can either be a new skill entirely, or a +1 to a current skill (Example: Sword-fighting +1). And that's that.

So, even though you can't effect the larger political/expansion workings of Wizards in Ethereal, you can go on your own quests and adventures. Where appropriate, I will supplement such stories. But mostly this is for you to be independent and write about the world of Ethereal.

Parties
I am not going to allow one player to control more than one character. Instead, I will allow character players to join together to create parties. The advantage of this will be that you will all share experience together in story-telling, and thus you can obtain new skills more quickly. It will also create a more interactive experience. You do not have to stay with your party all the time, either. You can find NPC characters to join a party if you are afraid of interaction with other human beings. They will be rare, though, and will not give you as much experience in your endeavors. But I can't really say. In a way, it really depends on what you do and how you do it.

One last thing: No, you cannot play as a Wizard. To be a magic-using character, it is more appropriate to call yourself a Mage or Sorcerer (or Druid, Necromancer, etc.). In Ethereal, the term 'Wizard' is for the almighty rulers.

That's it!

For my NES, Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb, their are still plenty of nations open that need some love.

So. INES III. Last time I advertized, in the While We Wait thread, I got four new people to join in that turn. I’m going to continue the experiment and post here. Only a few NPCs left with enough freedom of action to be good for players. Here’s the list, in roughly the order I’d wish them to be filled (though don’t let my preferences stop you).

Spoiler the list :
Indian Union – Madras fought off communist Africa and the Iranian Umma, got good peace treaties with both countries, and is now just waiting for Iran to hand over one more economic point this coming turn to pay off the annexation of Pakistan, and for the Africans to pull out of Sri Lanka and the Maldives like they promised. Technically allied through the Delhi-Peking Axis with China, the Indians aren’t a part of the big Asia-Pacific War anymore, and have the freedom to put pressure on a wide variety of countries. If you join as India, expect other players to want to do a lot of negotiation with you.

Russia – Defeated in the Balt War that occurred early in the game, Russia lost European ands west and north of Moscow, but currently engaged in successful fighting against the Chinese, alongside their onetime enemy Japan. Russia isn’t terribly rich, but it is in position to either be an important ally to the Japanese and their LIARS alliance, or abandon them and change up the game.

Second Republic of France – Very wealthy, in the powerful Neo-European Union with the UK and the Roman Republic, and currently experiencing a whole host of terror attacks, France is either about to brush off its problems or fall really hard, really fast.

Last update is here. Next deadline is Monday (see sig), and the NES is almost certain to have regular updates through the coming month.

could someone tell me where can I learn what the NES is, so I can decide if I want to try it?

On the first page of a thread, usually. Like this one. The first post of the thread has an introduction and rules. Most of the threads in this forum have some kind of introductory post. (I've never seen a thread without one with some kind of explanation of the purpose of the thread.)

Read one. You should try reading one that isn't ridiculously obscure though. DaNES II, ZPNES VI, ImmacuNES IIB, BirdNES III, and PerfNES are all relatively easy to follow, fairly recent, and not completely wierd.

Don't bother with the NES Guide; it's completely useless and quite misleading if I remember correctly. Also, try nes-chat.tk, but not now because it's almost exclusively active in the late evening and early morning GMT.

Basically, though, a NES is a game where you (and all the other players) each run a country or some other faction, you do diplomacy on the thread, you send in orders to the mod (the person running the NES) by PM according to the rules and stats on the first few posts, then the mod posts an Update telling you the result of your orders and the events of the last few years or so, and then you do some more diplomacy and it goes round in circles until the game runs out of steam.

Open for a game. I would like to join in any nich/regional power that is needed in an already ongoing game.
