I'm sure all of you have heard of the Imperium Offtopicum forum that Tani (SonicTH), located here.

The question here is, do you guys want to go off site to the newly made forum, or stay here on Civfanatics?

Stay. No need to go offsite. Especially if none of the other "colonies"' members join it.

No keep it here. It originated in CFC, it should remain in CFC. Not moved offsite like what happened with the Mafia Games.

The Downfall gang's been a huge appeal, but I'm not inclined to jump ship while the site formatting remains inferior to CFC: no spoilers, no social groups, and no font sizes even before he broke the coding.

So, so far, 66% of the yes votes are from people who don't play in IOTs. Should I count their votes or not?

Sorry for the doublepost,

But this poll is for IOTers only. Why are you NESers/non participants even voting?

To be fair, they might not be regulars but I'm pretty sure they've all played at least once.

Sometimes I just like to vote on stuff.

Not to forumcrosspost, but I will add to this from an event some time ago called the NESing Exodus.

I will begin by stating that I'm saying these things from an unknowing viewpoint of an outsider. I don't know the reasons you feel you need to do this, see. I don't know if any of these things have been addressed.

The NESing Exodus happened when the whole NESing forum's interests clashed with a somewhat strict moderation of one mod (And I will infer no further pdma here) and the displeased NESers wished a freer playground, and as such migrated to another forum temporarily.

Oh, on that account: There has to be an incentive for something like a forum migration. Why do you need your own forum? Why aren't the facilities of CFC enough? If the incentive is "I think it will be fun", it is plentily valid, btw.

Anyways, the migration was meant to be permanent, but it died out quickly.

What we learned was that:
- The forum wasn't a part of any NESer's culture. People didn't really go there as naturally as they just went to CFC. The reason is that there are plenty of other things to do on CFC. I rarely play Civ, for instance, but there's so much stuff to explore here there's no reason to leave.
- It caused a temporary divide which was hard to smooth out afterwards. The playerbase shrunk in both ends, making it very difficult to have any NES running. In the end, it went in the favor of the more developed site. It might be easier for you because you seem to have a larger player base, but watch out.
- CFC mods actually listened to us during the whole thing, but I don't think they took us very seriously - many of the prominent NESers didn't either. I played both horses during the event. :-)

Additionally, a forum needs fresh blood to stay alive. It's hard to maintain a playerbase in a forum that's dedicated to one sort of forum game, even a sophisticated one like IOT. CFC has the power of having a huge user count and the Civ series drag in natural strategy/history geeks that eat this stuff up.

If you're going to go offsite, godspeed, but you ought to look at the above problems first if you haven't already. :)

best regards

I don't really see why we can't have both forums operating in their current manners. Tany's forum is much better for RP, CFC is infrastructurey.

Stay here. Why would we ever want to leave? This site has good interface, many people and is easy to use. Multiple sites will be disorganized and chaotic and why abbandon this perfectly good one?

You actually pointed out my entire argument for staying, well done.

I voted to stay. The other forum could be useful but I feel it lacks all the features needed for a grander IOT.

Exactly what I was going to say. But I was going to say it more memetically...

I haven't used it, but I don't see the point in entirely getting rid of Tany's or leaving CFC altogether. Both is better. Therefore I choose not to vote in the poll.

It gives the GMs and the players alike more flexibility. Proboards is a bit sucky due to its lack of spoiler tags, but having to link elsewhere isn't too difficult; in fact it's easier to post since you don't need to add the tags. Having to click a link is NOT inconvenient - Have you ever used TVTropes or Wikipedia? Tabs are an internet user's best friend.

Also I don't like the way this poll is worded. It seems like it's asking people to drop CFC altogether, when it's not too hard to visit two websites consistently. Heck, I visit tumblr, imgur, deviantart, CFC, the forum, the chatrooms, and tons of other sites on a daily basis. I don't see why there has to be a war between the forums. Is it really so inconvenient to have to go offsite to something I link to for goodness sake? And the link is usually in my signature too for easy visits.

Though, this is really just stepping up my efforts for a recruitment drive.
