Piercings been around since forever. How is disliking them conservative?

Well I don't know about the tongue, but I'm compelled to get a piece of metal shoved through my lip because I think it looks cool. I think I said that already though

Hrm. I don't equate "looks cool" with "peer pressure". I'd actually suggest that peer pressure would be getting your lip pierced even though you think it looks asinine, but you just have to do it to fit in with your friends.

Mind you, I think any piercing beyond one in each ear for the ladies is just silly, but I wouldn't say Mise's reason is peer pressure.

Well it's more like girl pressure, since I'd rather like those peers in particular to think that I look cool. Either way I still think they look cool.

Lip, Nipple, and Tongue Piercings are stupid and unattractive, especially the lip ones. Nose ones are ok but I think I only think that because my mom had it for years(as many do in India). I checked 5 and 6 but belly button is ok for girls, and that's really all there is to it. Putting unnecessary pieces of metal in your body doesn't make you look cool, it makes you look desperate for attention, or like you're pretending to be rebellious and nonconformist.

Oh, and Mise, I can't think of anything that would look more stupid than a guy with a lip piercing. Where's your masculinity?

i have no piercings and dont want one either. what i dont get his why parents dont let girls get their ears pierced until they are in their teens. it's obviously less painful when they are young

Anyway, one reason is that you're drastically more likely to develop metal allergies if you pierce your ears as a kid rather than wait to your mid/late teens.

Infections, damage of teeth, and loss of your sense of taste?

Anyone thinking of getting their tongue pierced - read this webcomic. (Warning, contains a swearword.)

I just have my ears pierced once; I think anything more looks a bit iffy and I've never yet met a guy who looked better with piercings than without. I like my dangly earrings, and clip-on and magnetic ones hurt like mad and fall off respectively. Sure, it's self-mutilation for purely cosmetic reasons, but it's pretty darn mild for a biggish [self-confidence in my looks] boost.
