To have order there must be chaos

I just noticed an unintended pun in the title of the poll: What is the natural *order* of the universe: order or chaos?

I guess my subconcious slipped that one in there. :D

Perfection is right: Entropy is the answer.
The universe started ordered and is walking towards chaos.

One could define "order" in an infinite number of ways. I think the natural state of the Universe is space, with all atoms of matter spread out evenly throughout.

Is that chaos, or order?

The way it looks now, it's large amounts of space separating Stars and black holes that have pulled other masses of material close, and the radiation of heat and light from the Stars interacting with whatever random matter exists on those satellites results in life, sometimes. And life organizes things to suit its needs, but when it's too successful, it's organization results in it overpopulating it's satellite, resulting in conditions that benefit another life form more.

Exactly! There are many definitions of both chaos and order that, when used interchangeably, will obviously create contradictions. Sometimes this is termed (somewhat maliciously) as the "English Major Syndrome", referring to the supposed habit of English majors to apply the common allegorical method of "prove by word associations and multiple definitions" to areas other than literature.

Knowing something about the Second Law of Thermodynamics, I would have to vote for chaos.

Our universe is both at the same time. The nexus of present nestled between the eternal aspects of past and present.
