Which forum would be the gateway in such a setup, though? The Tavern and Chamber are nominally equal, as are all the other Colosseum subforums. One of the OTs would end up being the gateway, but unless we are to prefer one to the other (which would most likely be the Chamber due to site image considerations), there'd have to be a merger in any case.

The forum view would also be rather messy; see recent complaints about 'All Other Games' and the number of subforums you have to scroll past to get to threads.

Given the overwhelming popularity of the Tavern and unpopularity of the Chamber, I would think the Tavern is the more logical gateway. You surely do not want all the riff raff headed for the Tavern to sully through the Chamber on the way there.

So:
1. We get told the split will be undone, and there will be a merge
2. Then we get a poll whether the split should be undone (a poll I don't remember voting for when the split occurred)
3. Then we're discussing an alternative to the merge.

Then I start wondering what happened to 1.

Is this merge still on or are we awaiting the result of a bipartisan committee who will go through all the options and put those through a forum referendum for us to vote on?

I just thought we were getting a head start on figuring things out once the merge was nixed. The way I see it, a vast majority of CFC has failed to vote for a merge.

No, decisions are made behind closed doors by our blind masters. Grasshoppers are only allowed to vote on what we're allowed to vote on. : P

The original post here mentions voting with your posts tho. If the merge does go through you can vote with your posts by boycotting RD threads and only responding to non RD threads, hence the RD threads are constantly knocked off the first page of the Tavermber.

Colloseum is a "useless extra click" because the only thing it does is link to other sections; there are zero threads there. Sections like A&E have threads in them that you can read and reply to.

No, I mean the sections of other Subfora, like Civ IV, or Civ III. Those are also useless extra clicks. Literally every Subforum on this site is that way.

I disagree strongly - removing those and dumping everything into one forum - or even one topical forum (like "Civ4") would kill this site as most everything would get cluttered to utter uselessness.

Now of course that doesn't mean that all subfora are necessary - just that the reverse that all of them are useless is patently not true.

Some of the Red Diamond threads are very good. I can recognize their quality, even if I don't happen to find them personally interesting, or if I know I don't have the knowledge to make useful contributions to them.

Okay, I voted. I note the poll is not public, so I will give the rationale for my vote: No. I voted No because there wasn't an option to say I was undecided without being tossed in with the apathetic "don't care" crowd. I care very much about this. And since I'm opposed to A&E being merged with any sort of OT (whatever you want to call it), I don't want people to say, "Well, you didn't vote against merging the Tavern and Chamber, so what's the problem?"

I am not sure that is a valid interpretation of the results. The poll specifically asks for the votes of the OT regulars. I did not vote because, although I visit from time to time, I am not a regular. Moreover, the overwhelming majority of CFC users are unlikely to even know that the poll is taking place, since they rarely (if ever) visit the OT forums.

You're welcome to vote whether you're an OT regular or not; OT is a place for all CFCers. Of course, if you're not a regular, the 'don't care' option might be more applicable, but if you've got an opinion, feel free to vote for either 'yes' or 'no'.

Yes everyone can vote and should vote. If you don't vote, you will go on our short list of trouble makers that we keep an eye on.

There are about 60 people voting on this poll, out of 250,000 members.

That doesn't sound like a short list to me.

I make it 57 votes. And how many of those are OT regulars? How many are moderators?

Normally I'm in favor of secret ballots, but in this case I'm wondering if staff votes are part of this count.

Peer pressure, huh? I don't care who wants me to vote a certain way - I vote my conscience always - whether in RL elections, or in online polls.

I don't actually care who among the regular members votes which way. It's pretty clear how certain people feel, as they've posted their opinions fairly often. I am genuinely curious to know how many staff have voted, though, since staff are supposed to be neutral.

I still haven't seen a good reason why the "undecided" was combined with the "don't care". They do NOT mean the same thing.

For the purposes of this poll they do mean the same thing, namely "neither yes or no" - of course we could have added more options - but then again why not add more options for the nays too? I am sure there are some that dislike this particular proposal but would like OT merged if the proposal was different as well as others who disagree with merging -if we add an option for every possible opinion we get a better view of the reasoning behind a vote but a much more muddled picture towards the question that we want answered: is there a majority support for this proposal?

One moderator has voted.
May I ask if it was for or against the merge? (not asking who the person was)

I didn't ask for a whole long list of options - just that you differentiate the "This issue is important to me, but I am undecided for now" from the "I couldn't care less" votes. THEY DO NOT MEAN THE SAME THING.

On which side do you plan to ultimately count the "don't know/don't care" votes? They don't really mean yes or no.
