Overrated Bands

Just about all the lameass punk rock that's popular nowadays.

Chemical Brothers, Fall Out Boy, all the lame emo crap.

Do you mean My Chemical Romance? Because Chemical Brothers are not emo crap.

WTH.

My Chemical Romance is not emo, their music appeals to people from all age groups. Even my mom listens to it.

Its better than rap anyway :)

My Chemical Romance are most definitely emo. Sorry to break it to you.

Green Day + most modern bands
:goodjob:
Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd.

Phish, Weezer, man I could go on forever...
Chemical Brothers EMO ?   Maybe you meant My Chemical Romance or smthing.

I'd like to add some more overrated bands:
Nirvana
Arctic Monkeys

EDIT: x-post

yeah, they're electronic crap :mischief:

anyway, I'd have to add my vote to U2, never really liked them that much, their music isn't bad, but not great either.

Rolling Stones- I like some of their songs, but they are treated like gods

Beatles- same as above

U2- more overrated than the above 2 since their political message is supposed to be so "deep".

Green Day- good choice

Madonna

Britney Spears

most pop stars

most rap stars

yeah I'd have to go with Nirvana as well. Even though I like them. And I admit, I liked them better after he died. :)

speaking of: Pearl Jam- way overrated

Everyone has different tastes. You may think a band is over rated whilst another guy thinks they are the best band in the world.

Saying that, I do get annoyed at pop rock emo bands like Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance, just because they get loads of record sales from 14 year olds and suddenly people (including people in the music industry) suddenly think that is what 'rock' music is, which is crap!

And im going to have to add Metallica.
Just what i was about to post ...

I got a hold of their whole discography and listened to all the songs. They do have 2 AWSOME songs: Unforgiven 2 and Fade to Black, the others were just :undecide: mediocre at best - i felt like listening to the same song over and over. :crazyeye:
(Nothing else matters was also a bit above mediocre)

U2

U2 too.

Nirvana, 99% of the new British bands, Joss Stone and her ilk, Oasis...

And yet another U2 vote; they seem to be the early favorites thus far. I can't stand that pompous jerk Bono and his self-righteous political campaigning. And those damn goggles ...

Evidence: Sir Bono HimSelf claims that U2's music will last 100 years, and Ze Goggles, Zey do nothing!!, which as an added bonus ends with a completely non-sequitor Dr. Strangelove quote. Pretty much Bono-bashing perfection right there. ;)

Also noteworthy in this department are the "We're more popular than Jesus" Beatles, and "We've never had qualms about stealing old Blues songs" Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, with the former touring soon at a retirement home near you! ;)

Mos Def said:
It’s enough to make you holler out,
Like where the **** is Sir Bono and his famous friends now?

(Disclaimer: I know 'Sir' isn't technically correct for a non-English KBE, and wouldn't extend Bono the courtesy even if it were (and I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that Mos Def knows the same), but in terms of timing and brevity in making the point, I think it fits in well with the lyrics above.)

U2 FTW!!

Yeah, Bono is the biggest self-righteous, rich, arrogant, pseudo-intellectualist, hypocritical, arse-kissing, catholic, mullet-sporting, brown-nosing, self-publicising, Irish, stupid-glasses-wearing, delirious tosser I know of.

Radiohead- everyone bums the crap out of them but the music whilst good is just plain boring plus the fact that thom yorke often just goes off his nut when speaking to folk.

Thom Yorke is probably insane, but he makes good music. It's not accessible by any means, but it is good.

I really think the Rolling Stones are very overrated. I just can't find anything special in their songs. There's very little variety. The songs of theirs that I think are god are the ones that actually try some different stuff (Gimme Shelter in particular).

Finally, I think the Sex Pistols and The Ramones both are really really bad bands. Not even overrated, just bad. I can listen to maybe 2 Ramones songs in a row (which takes 4 minutes of my time), and then I'm bored. I've heard all they have to offer. The Sex Pistols had the same problem, but longer songs. They had slightly better musical variety in songs, but they couldn't stop relying on riffs (which I maintain a band should not do... you'll run out sometime and then you have nothing left), and beyond their hits, they weren't good at it.

And of course, in a musical thread I have to note my favorite band of the moment, TV on the Radio.

They only ever made one album, and a numberr of singles, so their repetoir was never huge anyway.
