Overrated Bands

I agree with the idea that Green Day is overrated, they aren't any good. They're stupid. Most of the Beatles stuff is overrated, but alot of their later, serious stuff I like. My Chemical Romance is really annoying emo music, and their music is exceedingly simple.

BTW, I expected the Led Zeppelin hate (alot of people don't like them), but what's with all the U2 haters out there? I love U2. Also, PLEASE say why you dislike the band, don't just put a list of bands you hate. Thank you.

Do you have examples other than Free Bird? I think Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the better Southern rock bands of the period (Allman Brothers probably beat them out), and I don't think that they're very highly rated outside of the rural South anyway.

Well, I live in the South (albeit it's not really stereotypical Alabama or something) and alot of people like Lynyrd Skynyrd. Another example would be Sweet Home Alabama. Everybody likes that song, but it is really annoying. There's not even a solo or any change, just the same 4 chords over and over again. Also, the lyrics are extremely repetitive.

I absolutely hate Gwen Stefani and all this pop crap, Billboard has no taste in music whatsoever. They just take some random song and call it #1.

Led Zep has some good songs, but then it's some. But not overrated, they are an influenetial band, no doubt.

U2 is kinda monotonic and boring, Bono is not the best singer in the world.

I'd say most punk bands are overhyped, well just because they have songs about politics and crap doesn't make them the best. My Chemical Romance and Simple Plan and emo crap are wastes of airtime, your ears should not have to endure such misery and anguish.

The 'best' punk bands were the first ones; Romanes, Clash, Iggy Pop. Today's punk is crap.

Pop/rap is super-crap. To repetitive and boring/bland and uninteresting.

My choice: Nirvanna.

Okay?

And like televangelists, people will defend certain musicians more than they will their own family. I neglected to mention this in my last post.

Plus, if a girl swoons over Don Henley, then I am fairly certain that there is little to no romantic chemistry between us.

brilliant argument back, just ignoring my points and creating another discussion :goodjob:

Nobody so far has mentioned R.E.M.? Sheesh, and I thought some of you had common sense.

I didn't know they were rated in the first place; how can they then be over-rated?

eagles cant be that overrated- its ideal girl back at your place music
you 'i'll just put this on'
background music- 'you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave'
her--- all over you.

Amen, brother!

This may be the first time I completely disagree with you on anything, but it's good to know you wouldn't be interested in my girlfriend!

Fair enough, that one is overplayed. But they've got some pretty awesome stuff also, like Tuesday's Gone.

My favorite band is Gorillaz

No worries there (from me at least) - they're pretty decent, IMHO. If you like the sound of Clint Eastwood and Rock the House, two of the three artists who worked with them on those tracks at least are Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Dan the Automator. Both of those guys are pretty talented, but in particular I'm a big fan of Del, who was once a member of Hieroglyphics and now releases solo almbums, in case you're ever looking for other music (he's a pretty intelligent and clever lyricist IMO).

(The two also collaborated on a couple tracks on the first Handsome Boy Modeling School album, So... How's Your Girl? as well, which is a pretty decent album IMHO, FWIW (and is based lightly (as was the group's name) on an episode of the brief-lived, random, obscure, and yet hilarious Chris Elliot [early 90's?] sitcom Get a Life)). /end random Wiki linkfest

Sorry for the random OT, but I figured I'd throw those recommendations out there in case anyone happened to be interested.

U2 is the most overrated. In addition to:
Jack Johnson
Dave Matthews Band
Rage Against The Machine
Megadeath

And for all of you saying Green Day is overrated, I agree, but only on their American Idiot album. Their earlier songs were much better.

Someone should tally the votes in the thread ... At least for those with more than 5 votes.

As of post #132, these are CFC's most hated bands (only counting bands with 2 or more votes):

Green Day 18
U2 15

Beatles 9
Fall Out Boy 7
Pink Floyd 7
Rolling Stones 7
Limp Biscuit 5
My Chemical Romance 5
Nirvana 5
Led Zeppelin 4
Linkin Park 4
Aerosmith 3
Brittany Spears 3
Coldplay 3
Gwen Steffani 3
Oasis 3
Rage against the machine 3
Backstreet Boys 2
Christina Aguilera 2
Korn 2
Metallica 2
N*sync 2
Sex Pistols 2
Van Hagar 2
98* 2

You guys clearly really hate Green Day and U2, with those two miles ahead of everyone else.

Not picking on you specifically, but this isn't about most hated bands. I can't stand the Backstreet Boys, but most people don't talk them up much. On the other hand, some people can't shut up about Coldplay, but I don't see the appeal, so I could call them "overrated".

I personally think it's exactly the same thing. :)
How can you define good music if not by how many people think it's good? Music taste is subjective to everyone's personal taste, the only way you could say some music is better then some other, is by how many people like it.
I personally hate green Day, but my own opinion doesn't weigh much compare to the millions of people who bought their albums.

 So if everyone in the world thinks that Chuck Norris is secretly gay it makes it so?

I wouldn't ask the masses, but rather the people who actually know music whether or not it is good. Do you think if lots of people think someone is good at math it makes it so? If some guy puts a bunch of numbers and algebraic/calculus equations on a blackboard calling it a theory that proves that 1+1=42 and acts like he knows what he's doing, he might fool the majority of the populace, but how do you know if he's wrong? Ask Stephen Hawking.

Allow me to doubt that. I attend to many amateur shows and local music contests, and I rarely see bands that really have the special thing that could make them popular. Even though some of them are technically 100 times better then many popular bands.

Thank you for proving my point :)

I'd like to add Snow Patrol and the All-American Rejects to my list of overrated bands

Some people think they are the most incredible thing ever. Now, I like their style very, very much, but I think that in the grand scheme of things they aren't as enormously influential to music as a whole as apparently some think.

If you're going to diss Megadeth spell it right!

How is the Dave Matthews Band overrated?

Excuse, me. It is Megadeth that is so flamingly overrated :p ;)

DMB is overrated because all their music is crap and you have about 75% of the nation that can't stop talking about going to see them in concert. They have the biggest fan pack of any group almost, it is sickening.

You ever go to one of their shows? It's not the music, it's the atmosphere. You know, the "air". :smoke:
