Overrated Bands

Where I live, it's:

-Emperor
-Dimmu Borgir
-Children of Bodom
-A load of other black metal bands
-System of a Down
-Greenday
-A load of other bands who claim to have "political" tone to them

I bazillionth Green Day

not that creative, and since when does wearing a tie as you rock out and mocking Bush make you cool and talented?

No band is overated if they sell albums. The utlimate goal of a music band is to sell, by whatever means. So if they are popular, they are good, (or their producer is...)

The real question you seem to be asking is "what band sold a lot of albums despite the fact that they don't have much musical talent or creativity".

In that case I gazilonth Green Day. I suck at guitar yet I could play all their song eyes closed.

Those who mention Led Zep simply don't know what music is :p.

I hope your joking..........

The ultimate goal of music and musicians is to make good music

the ultimate goal of record companies is to sell albums, no matter how much of an abomination they must make music

see the difference? :p

Nobody so far has mentioned R.E.M.? Sheesh, and I thought some of you had common sense.

To add to the list: Dave Matthews, The Who, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Clash, John Lennon, Queen, and The Police.

What I meant is that if you get out a sound that many people like, with crappy music and creativity, you must have some kind of talent. Being technically awesome doesn't mean you can get music that people will like. It takes a little something (simplicity maybe?) that bands like green day have, that makes them good even though they suck as musician.

You can only have two conclusion:
1-Green day is good
2- Most of the people on earth have bad musical taste

They're not good

writing something 'catchy' that people will remember and writing something good aren't the same thing

furthermore I know literally twenty rock bands here in my local area that would sell big if they had the PR for it, and they're just as talentless.

Give them equiptment, give them publicity, give them a music video, and BAM, craptastic takeover of TRL....

......oh wait.....

Yes, but just as many people if not more dislike them than like them........

Well i strongly disagree with the majority of that and vehemently disagree with the who and the clash.

if you think the clash are all should i stay or should i go/casbah etc then you are sorely mistaken, london calling is one of the greatest albums of all time.

if you think the who are overrated then your obviously already too far gone.

eagles cant be that overrated- its ideal girl back at your place music
you 'i'll just put this on'
background music- 'you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave'
her--- all over you.

I see music and televangelism as being alike; they both say they're about one thing (music/religion) but in reality, they are about another. The other, in both cases, is money.

People, however, are ultimately duped into believing their mantra, about being for the "greater good" of whichever cause they so believe in. If you ever hear anybody say "it's about the music," you know right there that they are lying.

There are some jobs that have certain civic and patriotic requirements, so to speak, but a musician is not one of them.

Yes, but just as many people if not more dislike them than like them........

i wont dislike them because of their music, i dont see how many people can dislike music that rhymes, its catchy etc. I agree they're not very good but i cant think of anything i 'dislike'.

Excellent misquote!!

Read the line beneath it...I probably should have added "some musicians" though

a real musician who is half-decently talented cares more about the music than the money

And like televangelists, people will defend certain musicians more than they will their own family. I neglected to mention this in my last post.

Plus, if a girl swoons over Don Henley, then I am fairly certain that there is little to no romantic chemistry between us.

I personally think it's exactly the same thing. :)
How can you define good music if not by how many people think it's good? Music taste is subjective to everyone's personal taste, the only way you could say some music is better then some other, is by how many people like it.
I personally hate green Day, but my own opinion doesn't weigh much compare to the millions of people who bought their albums.

Allow me to doubt that. I attend to many amateur shows and local music contests, and I rarely see bands that really have the special thing that could make them popular. Even though some of them are technically 100 times better then many popular bands.
