PAE VI

Unfortunately I have the suspicion, that this map might be toooo big!
Even with my really modern gaming PC turn times are over a minute at turn 450 (c.500BC)... and had a few CTDs now. Not sure what that is...

It's getting crowdy :D

So, I played around 300 turns @ emperor level/marathon and between turn times got to about 1,5 mins. ( I got loads of stuff done around the house, tho!) I had to put the game on hold because of my (old) laptop overheating, but the game was great! The hunters were the best units around and leveled up like crazy. Great synergy between map/game mechanics/game speed. Next I shall go for nob/ marathon. I tried this on an earlier version of the map (a couple of hundred turns without problems.)
Excellent work, Sirs!

@PiE - I've played for a while now and am having a great time. I'm at round 430 and have just opened up Carthaginian ranks, at about the right time. I've only got a few things to report:

1. Ships can get promotions usually reserved for land units, such as Garrison. I don't know if that is intended.

2. I had a one-off weird bug where I could continually click on the Sentry button for a small stack of Shortbowmen, but it didn't take. I got the sentry message pop-up each time but the stack didn't go into sentry mode and the little bullets stayed green. Once I had selected a different unit, then went back to the first stack, everything worked properly.

3. Fear - defeating a horse unit took fear away from the attacking stack, but didn't remove it from the actual unit that did the attacking, perhaps because it moved to another plot and out of the stack.

That's all for now :cool::sleep:.

Great news Antigenes!

1. Not possible. Do you know how?

2. Strange again. Never had this weird problem.

3. Fear: ok, this is something I could probably fix.

thx Sir ;)
I'd really be interested, if you can play a game until Christianity. (It might take a month on marathon, though ;) )

Unfortunately I'm running into some hard CTDs at 440BC at my test.
Not sure, if this map is even playable till the real endgame...

[edit] oh btw.
You can copy this .xml file into "PAE-Assets-XML-Text" for the missing names of some Civs
(like Saba)

[edit2] this is only true for my map, btw.
not that any misunderstandings arise...

PAE VI itself is a hell lot of fun to play! :egypt:

1. Not possible. Do you know how?

2. Strange again. Never had this weird problem.

3. Fear: ok, this is something I could probably fix.

1. The ship attacked out of the city and then received City Garrison I after defeating the enemy. Has only happened once. I can't remember if it was carrying a unit at the time.

2. Only happened once, and I remember doing something like clicking on units fast. Probably not worth worrying about it unless it recurs.

3. Just a few thoughts about fear - can a unit get the fear promo a second time? Do you want that to happen (I could argue either way)? Can fear caused by horses be removed by killing an elephant, or vice versa? I guess horse fear, elephant fear, chariot fear and camel fear could too complicated and unwieldy.

4. Camels - once one of your cities has camels, other cities can build a camel camp without a camel. If you do build it, you then get the message that the camel camp has been demolished because of lack of camels (obviously in that city). After that, even if you build a camel camp with a camel, you will not get the resource and will get the demolished message next turn, so you will never be able to build a camel camp in that city. I think you should need a camel in order to build a camel camp.

5. I was building the Damn of Marib and got the message that the city could not continue working on it. It took four or five turns before I got the second message about hammers being converted to gold and receiving that gold. It's not a problem, I just mention it.

6. Barbarians - On the L500018Civs+barbs map I'm seeing large numbers of migrating barbarians, currently at 1215BC. I know this is in the pedia and I like the idea, except for the fact they they are all shortbowmen and don't do anything except move across the map. Is there a time limit on them? Is there a way to make them vary their units and make them more aggressive?

EDIT: They've now changed to producing recurvebowmen instead of shortbowmen at 1160BC, but still don't do anything.

7. Barbarians again - can they have or spread a religion now? All the barb cities in Spain and Gaul have the Hebrew religion.

8. As Sumerians I am unable to build the Epic of Gilgamesh despite having a city, codex, a general and a level 4 unit (although that doesn't seem to be requirement now?). The button is greyed out.

9. Sumerians - Gardu - my elite Gardu unit has a button to promote it to Gardu, which it already is. Also, once it becomes an Ensi I can 'promote' it back to Gardu.

I checked back with the version 1.1 I played with previously and realized I had been playing it without running the new .dll. Only 17 civs. Duh!!
I shall keep going with 1.1c on noble/marathon and also on on emp/mar if possible.
I really dont want to abandon this map, its just too much fun and mayhem!

Finally had time to give this a try, and immediately got swarmed by bears killing my starting warriors—in the city

Is that on purpose, the 5 str bears coming in an killing your units so quickly???

On purpose ? Yeah it might be. Try a scenario. The mod has massively rich content.
Speaking for myself, launching PAE from a prehistoric seed is something I've never survived.

But I feel like I’ve played PAE from prehistoric before and not had it happen—I wasn’t sure if it was just a new version feature?

Alright, well I’m not giving up yet! Thanks for the info.

Yes, it's a bit tricky to survive the first steps in PAE.
But you will be rewarded ;)

Just keep your first Warriors in the city until you have Hunters. With hunters (and maybe an additional warrior) in a stack, you can start your first expeditions. They will survive most of the threats...

Don't go too far away from home until you really have some Spearmen or Axemen.

Thank you for that wonderful bug finding!
1. The ship attacked out of the city and then received City Garrison I after defeating the enemy. Has only happened once. I can't remember if it was carrying a unit at the time.
Ok, I try to get rid of that via python.
2. Only happened once, and I remember doing something like clicking on units fast. Probably not worth worrying about it unless it recurs.
Yes, could be.

Yes, because it's not only the fear of the one unit to defeat, it's the fear of losing the whole battle cause of the powerful enemy unit.

I think, I fixed that.

Strange. should be standard BTS.

I try do change a little bit. some of them should pillage all the time.

7. Barbarians again - can they have or spread a religion now? All the barb cities in Spain and Gaul have the Hebrew religion.
Yes, why not. They are independent city states.

8. As Sumerians I am unable to build the Epic of Gilgamesh despite having a city, codex, a general and a level 4 unit (although that doesn't seem to be requirement now?). The button is greyed out.
oh.. you striked that :D
I had a look and I could find a mistake. And you need a level 4 unit.

9. Sumerians - Gardu - my elite Gardu unit has a button to promote it to Gardu, which it already is. Also, once it becomes an Ensi I can 'promote' it back to Gardu.
Ah thx! You're right. fixed it. even for the AI. this could save the AI from an endless or long time turn now. THX!

How long are the Sea Peoples invasions supposed to last? Because I’m still getting them in 620 BC...

Thank you for that wonderful bug finding!

Yes, it was a stupid mistake on my part, forgetting that wonders had been reduced to 2 per city, even though we'd talked about it only the other day :shifty:. Sorry about that :D.

Also, how do you use the Trojan Horse? I’ve got it outside an enemy city and it isn’t able to do anything...

oh, yes.
I will turn it back to no limit. nobody wants a limitation.
