I have just come back from doing groceries. It's warm outside, and the first thing I did inside was to get rid of my cloths. Especially pants are annoying. It's tight, and restricts you down there. Currently it's also hot here. I thought that wearing a skirt would actually be nice. As a guy, I don't exactly own one (and neither a kilt), but I'm feeling tempted .
Anyone having opinions :D?

I found that getting the right combination of underwear and shorts solved much of the summer heat problem. As for skirts, no, nothing like that but I'd be open to getting kind of a shorter yukata type thing.

I don't think I could wear a skirt outside without feeling super self-conscious. And I live in a neighborhood that's very queer-friendly, so my discomfort wouldn't be because I'd be afraid of a social backlash; it's purely my own, cis-gendered, heteronormative psyche. (I can imagine myself wearing a skirt as part of Vikings cosplay or LARPing or somesuch, something traditionally masculine and part of a group activity, which makes me think it's probably not the skirt, per se, that would be uncomfortable.)

I still have a Swahili kikoy that I did learn to wrap and wear, as men do, on the Swahili coast. I still haul it out for a few days every summer when the heat is at its max. Not confident enough to wear it in public as it is just folded together and held by friction. And, with the whole point being to skip the gitch like a Scotsman in a kilt, I reserve it for lazing around the yard. The ventilation is everything let me tell you. And worn properly there is no danger of exposing yourself even while manspreading on a park bench. ;)

The kikoy/kikoi today seems to have a good international market targeting mostly women.

Skirts come with a whole bunch of social restrictions for women and girls (keep your knees together, make sure it doesn't ride up, don't run, don't hang upside-down, etc.) and this may be coloring my experiences. However, never would I choose to wear a skirt to deal with warm temperatures (or anything else - the last time I wore one was to a job interview 22 years ago). Tight pants are bad all the time, too, though, not just when it is warm out. Loose is key, though I can't always manage this given my size and shape.

To deal with hot weather, wear shorts. Make sure they are plenty loose, but that they'll stay up without a belt. Length is not too critical. Put on sunscreen if you need to.

On the other hand, a skirt is cheap, so try it out for yourself. What the rest of us like may have nothing to do with what you like.

I'd rather wear a chiton.

Only if you have the legs for it.
(Said as someone who wears long pants even in the summer because I hate how my legs look in shorts.)

A lightweight robe will get you there, so long as it isn't a long one. Mix with loose boxers if you need to not randomly flap out of place in whatever the company is for the moment.

If it's a pamper sort of deal, silk is a pain, but if you like it, might be worth the fuss? Dunno. Been a long time, I seem to remember silk getting hot.

 I guess that could be an issue.
The other thing which I'd be worried is about...well... the free floating.. that'd make me self conscious too.

I do have well formed legs (even got compliments twice), but super hairy. But I already don't care about that and wearing shorts all the time... so... don't care :D.

Blah, if this is a sickness, then I'm your doctor, this is easy peasy to solve, no need this skirt vs pants stuff, wear a saroong instead.

I always wear a saroong at home, not pants, there were time when I was young I can go around wearing saroong giving zero crap about anyone. Or found for yourselves a loose pant, the one that's not choking your leg, I mean the function should trump the aesthetic, and why you need a tight pants? to stop your blood circulation? I don't understand this.

Here is a saroong or sarung:

I remember when my bro-in-law saw me wearing sarung, he told me at that time "hey, nice skirt" but again, I don't give a crap.

Don't buy the silk one, silk is too soft, it makes you feel sleepy, buy instead the nice and sturdy one.

You will feel cool within the sarung when the weather is hot, but when it's cold, it helps you to feel warm, when I sleep outside in my younger time I often use this as a blanket. You can also cover your face using sarung, by using a proper technique it can turn you into a ninja.

I can pull this trick since 13 years old. You can even use this for complimentary attire like this:

If you do, I expect you to start posting about pockets.

I just recently unemployed, my pocket would not interest you buddy, trust me it's not a good view.

I'm a woman, I prefer dresses to skirts - because the dress I pick usually showcases the bosom so it takes the looks away fromy fat belly, which is near impossible to achieve elegantly with a skirt+top :p
I'd think men in skirts nowadays would be weird, but I like the idea and would be keen on it being so normalized that even straight cis-gendered men would wear them and I wouldn't find it odd anymore

I like bathrobes.

I don't wear undies and no one way my balls would be comfy seated in a skirt (not to mention I'm not trying to flash people).

I'd definitely wear a sarung.

Idk about a straight-up skirt, for similar reasons to EgonSpengler. Shorts are usually comfortable enough.

During the summer I have some linen long pants that are plenty comfortable, though they do have the side-effect of looking like I raided Michael Palin's travel documentary suitcase.

why did tunics go out of fashion
Largely out of a desire for more tailored and form-fitting clothing.
And also so the wealthy could separate themselves from the muck-dwelling plebs. Tailored and form fitting clothing was much more expensive and complex than a basic T-pattern tunic.

There are so many way to wear it, but I only know 1 way to do it, and it's like this. It's very simple, you can use sarong for a lot of things. Even now I'm using it lol
