Paradox Interactive games

I dont know about you but the Dutch never finish their Colonisation of Indonesia, the French or anybody never attacks Indochina. Everyone leaves Thailand alone. Malaya remains Malaya for a long time. Africa never get colonised except for the Congo decision. It's really frustrating.

It's much more realistic to have everyone going for Africa, though:

Pride of Nations seems to have the colonial game working pretty well and it seems to play out fairly realistically. Of course it's scripted a fair bit in order to nudge the AI in the right direction.

At least that's been my experience so far playing Russia. I'm only really colonizing Alaska, the Far East and Central Asia. However, I like what I see from the other colonizing powers. :)

I like sandbox play but I do get a little tired of ridiculous, totally implausible situations cropping up in Paradox games. I also enjoy games where there is some scripting and an emphasis on historical reality. So, it's a refreshing break.

The expansion should help make Victoria II a much better game anyway though even if it's still sandbox.

Am I a bad person because I don't like how the Pride of Nations provinces are divided?

No, you are not a bad person. :) It isn't perfect by any means.

Do you mean in Africa or all over the world in general?

Paradox is giving away another free game in their forum newsletter!:D This time it's AGEOD's Birth of America 2!
For the Motherland for HoI 3 is out.

Question about EU3: I see an awful lot of beta patches from the past few months. Are they planning to release a final, non-beta patch anytime soon? I bought EU3 [Chronicles] on the sale in late June, but figured if they're going to final patch it anytime now, I might as well wait for the patch.

Don't bother. The beta patches add so much to the game it would be folly not to add them asap.

But is there a timescale for the final patch (version 4.1 I think it is)? I figure there's going to be a final one at some point, and since I haven't played EU3 yet, would rather wait a week than start up a game with the beta patches right before the final one. If it'll probably be two months, then yeah, I'll apply the latest beta patch and start a game.

Some Paradox patches have been in "beta" for years, so...

Something like that. Beta patches are basically how Paradox convinces people to buy their games rather than pirate them, as they don't have any other copy protection (that I know of). As such "beta" patches can remain like that for a very long time.

Cool, thanks. So Paradox Beta is more or less the same as GMail Beta. Guess I won't wait years for the non-beta patch to come out, then!

I finally get HoI3 and Semper Fi, and they release FTM.

1.4 patch for Vicky II coming soon; it seems PI has shifted its focus to working on Vicky II. Not bad.

I tried the 1.4 patch. It's much better now. Immigration is controlled much better so that India isn't overrun by Brits anymore. European assimilation/immigration to Africa is better too. It's only in the lesser populated provinces do the Europeans form a majority. Otherwise, they are like 20%, 30%.

However, Austria-Hungary is becomes very South German by 1900. The Czechs hardly exist anymore. And the Finland should be renamed Belarukraine.

Historical accuracy could be upped more though. But I'm pleased with the patches, the game is much better and hopefully the expansion will end the remaining major problems like the fact that accepted cultures do not contribute to National Focus points and are not equal to Primary Cultures (which is incredible weird for North, South Germans, Italians and Chinese). Adding EUIII styled Missions, HOI historic decisions will make the game a whole lot more complete.

I feel like balancing Vicky is going to be like balancing a boulder on a toothpick. :crazyeye:

But good to hear aronnax .

Oh balancing is hard! There is some script written in one of the earlier patches that turns Chile into a steroid-driven immigrant hotspot that often shoots it to 8th place in the Great Powers

I thought that it was just because Chile was a democracy when most Latin American nations were dictatorships, so all the disgruntled people went straight to Chile.

The 1.4 beta patch is pretty good now--I'd say they are 80% of the way there, at least. And with the 1.4 beta, you can play the latest versions of PDM, which looks like it is too awesome for words.

That's the problem. It's too much immigration. Chile's population didn't go over 4.5 million until 1936, but in the game, they get millions of migrants. It gives them a very large advantage against the rest of the continent.

And frankly, there needs to be way for me to restrict emigration from your home country as well.
