Well, the fact that burning cars is a traditional French pastime is indeed a joke. However, there are indeed 30,000 cars burning on average in France each year. That is not a joke.

Cultural relativism being all very well and good, but i don't think any country would tolerate this behaviour as good and normal. Now I can understand the nonchalant atitude most of the french posters take to the riot. Gosh, its wierd.

If 30,000 cars are burned in an average year, and there are 30 million cars in France, that's roughly one in every hundred burned per year. That is indeed a bizarre number.

The US has somewhere north of 220 million vehicles on the roads. We have about six million vehicle accidents per year, and a bit over one million vehicle thefts per year.

So you're about twice as likely to get your car torched in France as you are to have it stolen in the US.

Seeing, or even hearing about, burning cars, is not something I'm accustomed to, so I ask for sources and proofs.

The problem isn't about French police having no testicles, it comes from French left wing having no brain.

Indeed, people like Noël Mamère (French environmentalists) would consider you as a monster with no heart when you'll say thiefs or aggressors have to be prosecuted. Those idiot considers that rioters aren't criminal but demonstrators. And of course, those rioters who were already known by the Police for 80% of them, will play the victims on TV in saying that repression is a bad thing. Of course it is, that's bad for business.

That left wing which considers that respecting the law is optionnal is totally irresponsible. Drug dealings and mobile phones stealings are not good for the "cités". And by the way, it's in excusing what can't be excused that you lead people to vote Le Pen afterwards.

You should really give the anti-left-wing crusade a rest, Marla.
It's childish to the point of ridiculousness.

I agree that the left was pathetic during these riots (even I felt disgusted, to be frank), but the "if the weather is bad it's the fault of our stupid left-wing !" is starting to be tiresome.

Strange, I had the feeling the left trashed the country during 20 years, and then the right was trying to correct what it could during the last 4 years.

Let it be known that both the left and the right haven't been able to figure out what to do concerning this issue. One should be aware that this isn't about politician politics. There are incompetent folks at the head of our State, and our modern democracy can't do much to get rid of them. But let's not blame the politicians only, most of the citizens here don't really care about it anyway.

France got flaws. Shame on you! Their policy was faulty. They were xenophobic. They opposed immigrant's integration. They were responsible for poorness of this poor victims. They payed them small donations. They opressed tghem in school by forbidding to wear hidjab!!! They must feell their guild towards immigrants!
