Particularly horrible ways to die?

Although many ways can be extremely painful, for me the most frightening one would be to be slowly crushed in a room where the walls keep closing in until they entirely press upon one another. It just seems utterly brutal, and the person could have a lot of time to be conscious of what will happen...

^Indeed drowning must be incredibly painful.. At some point the person will just automatically open his mouth to breathe, out of pure instinct, and, well, in a split second things will get a hell of a lot worse...

Getting sliced open, extremeties slowly removed. A talented surgeon could avoid arteries, maybe even sew them up to prevent the massive blood loss and a quick death. Watching in distress as you watch your fingers removed one by one...

4 isn't a scary number.

It is for many east asians. In Mandarin the word for four sounds almost exactly like the word for death, and in Japanese it sounds exactly exactly like death.
Speaking of which, in the movie Shogun a guy gets boiled, and that always struck me as a very horrible death. It is inescapable and slow and it only becomes more painful before you ultimately die.

You're leaving it up to my imagination but I'm pretty sure I'd get an infraction if I described what the most horrible ways to die would be. Getting captured by Ted Bundy or the Dnepropetrovsk maniacs is definitely up there though.
