Patch 1.21 bugs & problems.

Found out that the multi-tool saved game editor will not work now that the new patch is installed and this makes it tougher to evaluate what the new changes in the patch are doing.

Yeah, this change was listed in the ReadMe:

* Removed "God mode" save cheat.

BTW, not being able to add new units REALLY sucks. Lethal bombardment would've been nice to kill ships, but I'll stick with my stacks of Cruise Missiles, and the added units (such as TVA22's excellent Japanese Imperial Marine Unit) of 1.17. I didn't even try to DL the patch after I read this post.

Hopefully there'll be a hacked editor out soon that's compatible with 1.21.

One of the best things about Civ2 was its replayability factor - with the excellent editor scenarios were excellent and abundant. It's a shame Civ3 hasn't reached that same level (yet? who knows, maybe it will).

Its offical they have screwed up and put the Alternitative colors as the default should be starting colors....Simple mistake to correct if they wanted???

Thanks to FIRAXIS for responding to the color problem. Could you please let us know when you are going to release a FULL WORKING EDITOR??? (This would let us make great senerios and make the game as popular if not more better then CIV2!!! Which, in turn would create more $$$$SALES$$$$ which is all that anyone seems to care about anymore.

Patch is nice but wasted tested well enough and thanks for fixing the color crash bug...Just fix the colors...so I don't have to manualy do them!

FOUR PAGES already!!! Is that a bad sign?

No, if you read the thread carefully, most of them are not bugs/problems about the patch. So far the patch doesn't seem to have much problems.

I am getting free techs... many of them. I was the first to build the Great Library, so naturally I expected to get two free techs. I received my two freebies the next turn.... then one more the turn after that. Later, as my game has progressed, I every once in awhile get the message that I have received a tech from the Iroquois or Persians without justification. I would say I have picked up 4 techs I don't deserve. Just an FYI.

The Great Library gives a variable number of techs, depending on how much the AI is researching.

I personally think that Mod creators need to have the ability to create new units, and fast. Firaxis should have a huge interest in making this happen. This game can only be played so much killing the same things over and over. I want variety. Look at Half-Life, one of the most successful games ever that is still played by thousands of people because Mod designers make things more interesting over time. I was just getting excited about playing the British Isle's mod now that it has a map, but this sounds like it will destroy it's 5/1/1 ancient units. Game play is good enough for now, let people innovate before we turn our obsessions to other games.

Large map for me. Saved game I've been playing for the past week.

If I'm in the northern half of the map, I cannot scroll past the equator. It just stops. I can click on the mini-map to the southern half and scroll both up and down without a problem. As soon as I cross the equator, I can no longer scroll to the south.

Perhaps a bug because the patch makes the Large map smaller??

I can work around it, but a pretty big bug nonetheless.

I had the same problem, but for me it was a standard map and seemed to only happen when I had an Army selected!? I couldnt scroll in any direction..

An interesting thing happened today. I put my Civ2 Test of Time Cd into the drive and ran my CivIII game. Works great. Guess the programming code for both games is close to simular to the great old Civ2 series. This also worked with all my other Civ2's CIV2, CIV2 Multiplayer and CIV TOT.

So heres my idea. If this is compatible, some stuff must be compatible with CIV2 CIVIII! This is a long shot but has anyone tried to use the CIV2 Editor for CIVIII or hacked with it and CIVIII?

Just some light to the CIV placement stuff though it sounds far feteched.

Civfan.......

ps. So far new patch works great. Abit slower though!

Wonderful...just wonderful, now I cannot add new units with the Civ3Editor or the Civ3mod. Wake up Firaxis, mods keep this game alive ! Put that add unit ability(what you considered a bug) back into Civ3Editor ! Jeeze...why'd you go and pull that crap ?!

I was really looking forward to using lethal bombardment, but if I can't add my own units...it's back to 1.17...until someone hacks the editor. God forbid Firaxis give us a hand and just allow us to add units at our own risk .

re Adding Units. No wonder Markos pulled the plug on Poly... Imagine what would be going on over there...

re Karhgath's scroll bug. I got the same thing. I played through many turns (easy to do on Tiny map in Ancient era). Now the 'bug' is gone and I can scroll as normal. Steeerange.

All I am saying is you don't need to insult the Firaxis team to express your opinion. Firaxis has shown their comittment to the Civ community and you can be sure that they will continue to improve the game and release more patches. You know personal attacks are not allowed on this forum.

On this unit addition issue, I also hope Firaxis can release an unofficial & unsupported editor that can add units. In fact, I've emailed Firaxis and offered to host such an editor at CivFanatics...

Firaxis do understand the power that modification can give to a game's reputation; they are just not happy about ppl using unoffical ways of doing it. (I think).

They are definetely working on a good editor, one that will allow us to add what we want (probably not era's and a few other things, tho I would love to add era's...=o) ).

Read the topic. This is a bug report thread, not a flame-firaxis thread. There are lots of those, too, but your post does not belong here.

I don't get it... yes, the ability to add new things is imperative to mods, but the fact is, within days there will be a hack, and I think mark already said the old hacks still seem to work...

that's not an excuse for taking out such an important bug, I don't see the logic of it (we obviously knew it was a bug, because it wasn't a real feature!). But if that's their choice we can't do much about it.

I do second (or third/fourth/etc) the motion for a fully unsupported editor. It's been done successfully with many games, and I for one am surprised that the editor has been so well supported anyway. I wouldn't mind an unsupported editor.

Anyway, point is, they're always working hard for us, and being an avid fan of Heroes 4, I only wish 3DO was so active with the community... the message boards I've been to have NO 3DO involvement whatsoever, and the company as a whole doesn't seem to want customer opinions... (they used to have a forum where NWC employees would occasionally pop in, but now it's totally gone)

ON TOPIC

I'm guessing by feedback that people are MUCH happier (so far) with this patch than with 1.17. I will download it right away and perhaps put Heroes 4 away for a few hours :)

Found 2 bugs in the latest patch other than the spanish language problem.

1. The Tech Tree boxes are so small they cut off the writing. Ceremonal Burial is simply Ceremonial Buri - not only has it cut off the name, but you can't see how long it would take you to learn the tech.

2. The little indian huts scattered around the map - the ones that had money, tech, maps etc are no longer there.

Other things noticed:
-the spanish thing from above.
-the savegame editor no longer works - in fact none of the civ tools work anymore.

Well that's it for now.

Take it easy
4.
