In North America, the Confederation sent another naval squadron carrying soldiers and settlers to Hawaii under the command of Admiral John Davis. The targeted island for this expedition was Kaua’I, an island mysterious devoid of a population, which seemed to fled the island in the last two years.
In Europe, the French Empire’s demand that the Kingdom of Sardinia cede Corsica has been met with very public ridicule by the Sardinian government, and has triggered a naval arms race across the Italian peninsula as Sardinia’s allies and enemies churn out ships of the line to not fall behind the neighbors.
Excitement is in the air of the Ottoman Empire over the upcoming elections. A flurry of initial party formation has died down, leaving three major political parties. The Committee of Union and Progress, the Freedom and Accord Party, and the Ottoman Islamic Party, are the major contenders in this year’s general elections. Elements within the CUP and OIP have embraced a strongly anti-Sakart’velo stance in the aftermath of 1882’s summer conflict. There are rumors circulating Turkey that the nobility is close to electing a new sultan and usher in a fresh dynasty.
The government is investing significantly in national infrastructure, including rails and schools. As Bursa is still chronically short of funds compared to the pre-Fall government in Istanbul, the government has provided subsidies to private schools, and Islamic institutions of learning are blooming in the cities.
Across the region, Ottoman-Persian relations have warmed, even as Sakart’velo’s silence has signaled a cooling of relations with her Ottoman and Persian neighbors. Ottoman representatives will even attend a council in Persia to help establish a new ruling government in Persia, though that has met with heavy resistance by the Shia nobility. The focus of expansion for the four major players in the region; Sakart’velo, Persia, the Ottoman Empire, and Alexandria, is on Mesopotamia, the Levant, and the Arabian Peninsula. With the collapsing strength of Ethiopia across the Red Sea, worries that Ethiopia could become a significant power on the peninsula have evaporated.
In North Africa, Alexandria has finally entered the international markets by building several factories to process Egyptian cotton for export and domestic consumption. The industrial boom in Alexandria is the biggest increase in percentage industrial capacity on record since 1880. This comes on the heels of Egyptian expansion into the Sinai Peninsula and Levant with the Republic Army.
In Africa, shortages rocked Ethiopia yet again, leading to unrest on the frontiers. Ethiopia is the first country to report the reversal of settlement.
The Republic of Odisha was rocked by political turmoil over the close 1883 Elections. The parliament of that country forced Sadhu Meher, the Nationalist Party candidate, and the current president to agree to a shared government in which the former president would ultimately cede authority in exchange for the vice presidency, striking a major blow to the United India Party.

As you may recall, the Fleet and at least one division were sent out to Japan, to establish contact with the Ainu peoples.
To our great dismay, the majority of Hokkaido was covered in violent ash storms, and the people seemed less than friendly.
All is not lost. We have established a base in Southern Japan, and will start attempting to contact the native populations in the area.

He sealed the letter. It would be a few months before the letter reached home, He gave it to his aide, Winter-Dance-of-the-World, and sighed.
This was not the best idea.

Edit: I have taken the liberty of laying our plans of expansion over the turns in the near future for the benefit of our fellow powers. It is subjected to diplomacy with alterations possible but my policy is to secure the Persian Gulf, secure Mecca and keep borders clean, the most latter relative to the... rather "drawn with ruler" kind of lines which within Arabia itself would make for some... crazed borders. Still; this is only a purpose vision, which will take advantage of our resources.

France died in 1878. You're just a colony, and therefore the treaty doesn't apply. Even if it did apply, we are Genoa, not Sardinia.
