PH09: The King and We

That's fine, but maybe if you can't get to it until Friday, perhaps Simon could take his set, and you could pick it up after that . . . so, IF you haven't played, and IF Simon can play, than perhaps another swap would be in order to keep the game rolling along.

that's a lot of if's ~ lmk though

I agree. :)

If Simon can pick up and play before Sunday, he's welcome to. I can play during the weekend starting Friday evening.

Actually, I'll have to take back that gotit, I don't have it.

Well, I have the save, but I appear to have misplaced my BtS DVD.

I'll repost a new gotit when I, er, have it again.

That will teach me not to tidy up the study every again. !!

Ahh, Winni is 7 turns off redcoats. Do we really want to hit him now ? (I guess it's now or never.)

will take about 4 more turns setup, so I'll probably leave the declaration until tomorrow night. so shout if you think it's a bad idea.

i think if we have enough siege, we hit 'em! That'll be the key ~ collateral carnage, baby!

Even w/Redcoats, as long as we're coming w/Grennies (esp CR2 or 3 ones), we'll open him up pretty quickly, imo. As i mentioned, i think we broke his back (or stack as it were :D )

Turnset 5

0: 385 1750AD

There seems to be quite a lot of troops on gotos without anyone saying being :nono:

I build another spy as we need one to defend London, plus one in the attack to spy out what's happening. and maybe destroy roads if there's too many incoming attackers.

I move the trebs from London. If we're going to attack in the east we need them there.

1: 386 1755

Looks like there's an English spy about up to no good. Hope it's not 007
and Quin calls, asking for a mutual health boost. [corn for cows]

Civ4ScreenShot0018.jpg

Nah, cold hard cash for me please.
Civ4ScreenShot0020.jpg

Sheesh :faint:, the AIs know how to drive a hard bargain now

I've also set science down to 0 for a couple of turns to upgrade some macemen, and build up a 1K reserve for unexpected upgrades.

2: 387 1760AD

there's a second stack near London. I'm guessing if he sends all his forces to london, we'll loose it. If some go east, we should be OK.
Time for more troops there

3: 388 1765
We lost a spy :-(
spy.jpg

And Winston's moved some cats close to london...
Trying to find out GG medic, and we seem to have lost him. I'd have thought that was worth a mention in a posting  (sorry if I just missed it)

4: 389
Just moving troops.

5: 390 1760
Right, time for war.

Civ4ScreenShot0028.jpg

Eeak. :eek::eek:
the war weariness is huge. culture at 30%, science at 0 and we're still loosing about 20gpt.
I guess this will be the last war with winston. the good news is the east is very lightly defended.
First grab a couple of workers, then onto Brighton for a spot Saturday night fun (mods vs rockers reference.... never mind.)

now how will Winston retaliate.

6: 391: 1762AD
He moves his troops to the hill to the east of london. Not a huge stack. We'll bombard it with cats I think.

Also Salidin takes this time to say he's no longer in the marble business.
We need the cash, so I offer some horses as a sweetener to him.
Civ4ScreenShot0032.jpg

7: 392: 1764

:smoke: forgot to send the cats in last turn east of london. 0% def in london. now Oh well.

Bismark then suggests a deal, then changes his mind.
he also seems to be gearing up for war. I really hope it's not us.
(lost the pic, sorry)

attacked with 3 cats west of london, taken a little from the stack out side, but lost them all

Over in the east, eventually Brighton falls to the aztec hord.
Civ4ScreenShot0041.jpg

Lost about 4 troops there though, including two grens at 90% :-(
need to use collateral more some more for the next two cities I think

8: 393 1766
close on oxford.
Winston brings more troops near london.

9: 394 1768
The attack on london starts.

Civ4ScreenShot0042.jpg

And it holds, with the loss of only two units to winston's 15 or so.
:-)
And we got a great general out of it.
Civ4ScreenShot0044.jpg

There's a maceman outside of oxford with woodsman3, he'd make a great candidate for the new medic. (unless we want a knight for speed) but don't upgrade him. that way he wont' get involved in may fights.

I promote all the defenders with city garrison to withstand the 2nd wave.

10: 395 1770

yep, red coats have arrived. And he's upgraded some muskets to them. Will slow us down somewhat.

Oxford is taking some time to bombard it's defences down. should be ready to crack open next turn.

I think the stack on the east should take oxford, then move on head south west to Newcastle. I dont' think there's anything much in geped (that well known English town) or leeds to cause us major problems, unless we want that area before winston capitulates.

There's about 5 grens on goto to london. I'm trying to whip when cities are about to stave. Well get winston but I think our guys will be eating their own boots when we're finished.

If we whip in the old capitol, we end up with two grens every 3 turns. (takes longer than that for the pop to grow back though)

Actually, will he vassle ? “we will figh the on the beaches, and in the towns, we will never surrender.”

Here's the save.

Ara ... got it in the middle of a war ...

>>I'd have thought that was worth a mention in a posting

That's my fault ~ I lost him @ the first battle of London (the history books having long erased that London was ever an English town; 'twas only ever Aztec :D ). He was one in a long line, and it just slipped through the cracks when i was putting together the report.

I think Bismarck and Ramesses are pretty chummy, no? How's his relations with Qin?? Maybe he's in for a Churchill dogpile?

Take it away, beserks ~

Wow, WW is in every single city ... well, a little :whipped: should help in that regards. Every single city gets a nice crack of the whip, and red faces are put to rest. Research is then brought up to 10% at -3gpt.

Next, I noticed 5 workers in a stack sitting outside Oxford ... and decided to pull them out and have them do something for useful than just sitting on their arses.

Then I hit enter.

Found a GG sitting in Teotihuacan, and merged him there.

Civ4ScreenShot0000-16.jpg

Bombarded Oxford down to 1%, sacrificed a pult and took it without losing any other troops.

Civ4ScreenShot0001-15.jpg

Look at this bad boy next to London. I'll let them come at us, we have a better chance defending than attacking.

Civ4ScreenShot0002-16.jpg

And Churchill threw the entire stack at London. We lost 1 gren, while Churchill's entire stack only has a redcoat left.

Bismark and Saladin declares on Qin....

Civ4ScreenShot0003-16.jpg

Then Bismark comes asking for help against Qin, I turned him down at the moment.

Civ4ScreenShot0007-5.jpg

Ok, troops are sufficiently healed, time to push our offensive onward again. 2 Stacks move out. 1 from London heading towards York,

Civ4ScreenShot0005-8.jpg

the other from Oxford heading towards Gepid.

Civ4ScreenShot0006-7.jpg

Took York losing a few grens with good odds (> 80%) , which oddly enough happens more often than not for me

Civ4ScreenShot0008-4.jpg

Razed Gepid,

Civ4ScreenShot0009-3.jpg

but unfortunately it spawned some redcoats.

Civ4ScreenShot0010-3.jpg

They managed to kill a couple of our grens before I could do them away.

Ok. The situation. I have a stack right outside Leeds which is being defended by a lone knight at the moment.

Civ4ScreenShot0011-1.jpg

I have another stack 2 turns away from NewCastle, defended by 2 redcoats, a gren, and a pult at the moment.

Civ4ScreenShot0012-1.jpg

I am also accumulating a nice stack in London to take down Birmingham, defended by a gren, war elephant, and 3 pults at the moment.

Civ4ScreenShot0013-1.jpg

I concentrated the war on the east because I want to close our back door permanently. Also, I was pretty liberal with the whip during my set, and got over 30 units from it I think. And there's a prophet sleeping in our old capital that I left alone cuz I don't know what to do with him.

Good luck to the next player.

Good moves.
I should have mentioned the workers not doing anything. Sorry.

The plan I had for the GG was for him to meat up with a woodsman3 maceman who was in the invasion force to make a new medic.
There's a maceman outside of oxford with woodsman3, he'd make a great candidate for the new medic. (unless we want a knight for speed) but don't upgrade him. that way he wont' get involved in may fights.
Oh well.

yeah, that's too bad about the GG, but i expect we'll get another GG soon enough. great turns, though, on the smashy-smashy front. Winston is all but dead. do we finish him off or vassalize him? Either way, we should concentrate on getting our empire up from running 10% research if we're going to compete against Bismarck. it seems like he may be going for Domination as well, so we may end up butting heads.

if i get a chance, i will take a look at the save and offer more pertinent comments, but it seems SacAltars should be first whips in any cities . . . or de we keep whipping our cities and dogpile qin?? hmmm . . . maybe we should take our veteran army and dogpile him anyway to get in on the action.

I can get to this most likely tonight.

My Gameplan ~

End the Thousand Years War w/England via this plan:
Civ4ScreenShot0000-1.jpg

1st army will take Newcastle, 2nd army will take Leeds and head west to link up w/1st army, while 3rd army moves west immediately and razes Nottingham. 3rd army then proceeds west and captures Hastings, while 1st and 2nd army come west as well, aiming both Reading and Norwich. Liverpool (raze) and Coventry (keep) soon follow.

And on the homefront:
Civ4ScreenShot0001-1.jpg

Grow!

Well, as we all know, no plan survives contact with the enemy, and mine was no different. However, the war IS over. :yup:

My first move was to tour our cities, take off the governors, and MM all of them for food and commerce. WW is killing us completely ~ 9 and 10 angry faces in most cities ~ yeesh! All this will be fixed once we're out of this war; Fox will be in charge of picking up the pieces and going for Qin. With that in mind, I put the armies in motion.

Leeds was taken on turn one according to plan, though it got Churchill a GG.
IMG01.jpg

Next turn, we won a big battle @ 29% @ Birmingham, and then promptly lost one at 94%. Love that RNGod!! I also noticed that Bismarck went Theo and State Property on the IBT, too ~ he's serious about his warring.

I was one unit shy at Birmingham, so we’re already off-schedule. However, there was only one unit left, so on t3:
IMG02.jpg

At this point, I decided on a change of plan, I send Third Army south to Reading instead of west to Hastings. This way, they can pick up reinforcements on the way. Meanwhile, First Army is bombarding Newcastle as the remnants of Second Army (basically trebs and a gren) head west to meet up with them.

It’s now turn 5, and after a crapload (for you metric people, that’s one metric buttload) of siege go in and most die:
IMG03.jpg

Newcastle falls!

All the units left from First and Second armies in the east are heading for Reading now, to rendezvous with Third Army, which made its way south to there. On turn 7, we the units in position, knocked down the defenses, and:
IMG04.jpg

We got ourselves another GG and this one will be for the Medic. I found a nice HA in London to use for this! I also found a GP sleeping! :nono: :whipped: I started a GA with him to help out the homefront situation. [I now think I should’ve held him until all our English cities were out of revolt so they could be included, but . . .]

After Reading, I decided to take stock of the situation and re-evaluate our war plans. There's 4 more cities to take now; hastings and coventry have 9 units total, while norwich and liverpool have 6. I first thought to reorganize the armies into two and send them out to finish off Winston, but then decided to just settle for hasting. His other 3 cities ain't that great anyway, so I’ll leave them have them. The annoyance is that i have to rest my army, but so be it.

So, that’s what I did. After a couple turns, I had enough to set out for Hastings. A few turns later, I got there, and proceeded to knock down the defenses there. In the end, I lost all but 2 trebuchets trying to help out, but we got it:
IMG05.jpg

Our new general taking the lead there since there were only cats left.

I called up Winston shortly thereafter:
IMG06.jpg

Done, my friend. Welcome to the Aztec family!

In other news, we got a good event:
IMG07.jpg

And asked to join the other war:
IMG08.jpg

IMG09.jpg

I almost said yes to this one, but figured we would need at least some time, if only to heal the army a bit.

I played one extra turn, as we were got a GS. I sent him to teotihuacan for an acadmy as it’s our highest science city and there is none there. I also labeled some cities Production for your consideration all ~ you'll need to DL the save though. All the rest, i think, should be commerce unless i missed a super hilly city somewhere.

We need Hindu in 4 more cities for the OR bonus, but we may want to think about Theo when we go back to unit production or whipping (or both ~ do the ol’ quick switch to war civics with the SPI trait). From here, I think we rebuild and grow our cities a whole lot. We've got an avg happy cap in the mid-teens so let's use it! I went through all our cities and set the governor’s to food so that we wouldn’t have to constantly keep an eye on them to make sure we’re growing as fast as possible.

I still think we should DoW Qin, and hope to vassalize him befor Biz does. Biz iz our main competition and he loves Ramesses, so we may be next after Qin. Even if not, we will HAVE to tangle with Biz to win the game, no doubt about it. The question is how.

We’ve got one turn left on our Gage, but we losing 16g at 50%.

Here’s the victory screen:

Would it have been a big deal if we did say yes? Quin would have been too busy to do us damage, and it would have given us a +1 against Saladin

Would it have been a big deal if we did say yes? Quin would have been too busy to do us damage, and it would have given us a +1 against Saladin
i guess now that you mention it, you might be right about it. It also would've given us more +'s w/Biz, too, for sharing a war. However, Sally is at annoyed, so he'd never be pleased with us, and we'll get the bonus from Biz whenever we declare.

K. I'll see if I can grab it and play either tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll post a got it if I do though.
