PH12: Men in Tights

Lurker's comment

Past the trees, there aren't many hills in the BFC of either start...none in either if my eyes aren't failing me. Roose has a marked advantage because he can hook up those deer now and tech to BW faster. Also, all three visibe derr are already in his fat cross; for louis, you'd have to move 1 NW, although that does gain a hill. Desicions, desicions :hmm:
Will be lurking with interest.

You rolled Rosewelt of the Ethiopia tho instead of Rosewelt of Summer

This kind of takes the Synergy out of the ORG+Early_Ziggurat combo. Ethiopia has Steele as UB, which will go obsolete at Astro.

Perhaps this was a sign of the fate, towards playing Louis :D Or would you like to reroll the Rose start with Summer ?

I'm afraid I'm going to have to withdraw myself from this SG. Having trouble finishing my other games due to a whole bunch of rather irritating RL issues.

Think you have quite the roster to get it done though! :)

And I'll certainly be a lurking!

Really sorry about the inconvenience and a bit gutted to be missing it. :(

I'm looking at this from my mobile and thus, can't see starting positions. I would still like us to roll start for Roosevelt of Sumeria. Just because I have never played with unrestricted leaders and strategy with him sounds interesting and different.

Sorry to hear you dropping out, Trivial.

:agree:

Maybe we'll get a fourth page before starting the first set ? ;)

Though, I must admit I agree on Rossy of the Sumer.
Louis start seems nice - river, grass, deer. Nothing exceptional, just nice.

good points about roosey --

d'oh! that's really too bad -- don't you like to lose? will miss ya

i'll reroll Roosey's start, and we're also looking for one more person to play

1 more person??? you have a big rostor, you joking right?

i'd be happy to join, but if someone else wants to join, let them join instead of me. (have 3 sgs, but i have to much spare time...)

edit: nvm.i decided that i'll use my spare time to learn how to add in a civ to the game.

If our strategy is based on early REX, there might be couple of problems.

First of all, it lowers our slider a lot, but we can't run any representation specialists until we can build Ziggurat's. In other words, research is going to suck really bad. It's going to be hard to steal Polytheism and Priesthood without cottage powered EP slider and specialists.

Other option is delaying REX, but then we miss the point for the whole strategy.

Something that I'm missing? Maybe we should be allowed to tech Polytheism -> Priesthood on our own so we can actually use spy specialists?

The Rules say self-teching allowe till ABC, and some posts later i think i seen a remark that ABC should be one of the first Classical techs we research.

I think Polytheism+Priesthood are both ancient era techs and can be teched. If we can't get the techs for building up a espionage Infrastructure (Ziggurats) where should the points for tech stealing come from anyway ? I assume that if not playing Summer we would have to tech till CoL to get Courthouses anyway...

Waiting for a GS to infiltrate (which is a huge vaste, if aiming for a full espionage econmy anyway) would take far too long.

Whops, I've been reading RBTS1 - Thief Economy threads which have following rule:

"All techs with the exception of Ancient Era techs unlocking Worker actions, Writing, and Alphabet (necessary to build spies) must be stolen."

Mixed this with our variant... Phew :D

sorry all for the delay; had some rl issues

here's the new start, and i'll post more in a bit:

yes, we CAN tech up to ABCs and it should the first or second Classical age tech. it would be way too hard, imo, to win culturally w/o it.

also, if Morred is still reading this, the open spot can be yours if you want . .

finally, i like the latest start. Stone is a great resource for us, no?

Stone is a great resource for us, no?

yes I like the new start as well and yes Stone would be great and Marble isn't bad either

Ralph

Yep, that stone is reallly good! ;)

Warrior could move NW. Maybe settle 1E? River access + marble as worked tile.

Definitely in place :)
The plain hill settling is always a nice thing :D

I am surprised seeing only 1 deer in this one - its a change for sure.

Warrior NW sounds good. Depending on what we see...

I think i like 1E slightly more than in Place: River for Levee - tho will become important much later, Marble in the BFC - from the look of it, if we settle in Place we might not be able to actually work the marble - coast there.

But settling on a plains Hill is Cool too.

I guess it depends on what the warrior will see NW

okay, i think the consensus is for this start, so i will go ahead and move that warrior later on today.

Yeah Move NW and unless something interesting appears I would plump for 1E sacrificing Plains Hill for Marble
