PH18: We Hates You'se

looks like Dragon is MIA ~ w/Fergie skipped, that makes v_8 mark up ~

OK, got it. Will play as soon as I know what the heck I'm doing.

Questions:

- Do I complete the settler that (I'm guessing) was the first build? Seems silly not to complete it now. It'll be done in 18 turns, which is just before 3000BC...
- Where does it go? Close by, as we have nothing with which to fogbust. It also needs to be for max production I guess (for archers). Plains hill 1S of the marble?
- After Archery? BW?

After Archery, BW. Yes.

The settler, well, that's akward now, isn't it. Looking back, I'm not sure why I built it with out any defence in a raging barb game. Probably should have gone worker. (I never build warriors as I usually have archery quickly.)

I'd let it finish. We won't need any defence too soon as we're far from the enemy and barbs are still animals. Then make two quick archers (probably whipping one or both as we'll have BW by then) and send one with future York.

Settling close by will probably be a necessity but, yes, max hammer city would be my preference, given the unplanned violence of this game.

Still, I'm an idiot and I'm sure Fox has good reasons to out-shout me on all.

wait, wait...did i miss the part of the report where you said you went Settler-first??

wft?? WTH even??

settler first? on emperor? on raging barbs?? on AW??? i can think of maybe one situation where settler first is the way to go, and that's on Warlord with the IMP trait.

i think at least a warrior or two before that settler. how would we defend city 2 with the barb warriors come a'knockin' in the next set??

if the only opinions you have are mine and rex's, weigh them carefully (taking full note that Rex hasn't played in many, many moons), and make your own decision.

Let's browse my input into this thread, shall we?

Yes, I own BtS. However, I'm unreliable.

BTW, is now a good time to mention that I haven't played Civ in over 2 years and that I might have trouble on tutorial difficulty?

everyone wants to be American...I've never played Emperor. Will we live long enough to see cottages mature? ...I'm assuming we can't rampage our own teammates for their land?

that team game where we built no military and used Tokugawa as our meat shield. We lost spectacularly on that one....I'm not drunk enough to remember yet.

I see the save. Though, now comes the hard part: you fools trusting me with it. What's the tech direction we're heading? If I missed it, it's because I didn't read any of the above. Just kidding. Really, I'm too stupid to remember.

I haven't played Civ in two years

the insane, on occasion, are not without their charms...Red Five is going in...

Check that, Red Five is flaming out.

Better get better defense there before my set. I'm in way over my head with this game. :)

I love raping, pillaging, burning, and raping as much as the next drunken god of chaos, but at harder difficulties, you need have something to build up before you can go on your murderous rampage.

I'm picking up the save and letting my nine-year-old choose the tech path.

Still, I'm an idiot and I'm sure Fox has good reasons to out-shout me on all.

What about any of the above led you to believe I'm competent?

lurker's comment:

You know, I haven't stopped by in a while, and I saw this, and saw that Pholk had the last post, and thought, "Pholk is posting in his own thread, what is this world coming to?"

And then I saw Rex.

"Rex?", I thought.

Then I saw a reference to Quarrelplegic Midgitants!

2012 is three years early!

Run for the hills! :hide:

Oh, and Hi, Everyone! :D

Heh. Long time, no see, Bindy. Not the apocalypse. Only a wrinkle in spacetime. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Got there in the end.

Built a warrior, grew to size 2, researched Archery, BW, switched to Slavery; we now have the option to whip the settler this turn, or let it slow-build instead.

Just realised I didn't micro the tiles so that we got an extra commerce from the pig and spice tiles. Apologies.

Here's the save though. Fuller report to come.

sorry guys. had a bit of a run in the hospital for illness, but i'm back now.

as it seems fox is MIA (and i hope it's really not MIA as he WAS at his training), i think i'm up. don't look for a report until friday probably. i'lve got the save and will take a look.

sorry about the delay, but i have finally played.

i started off by whipping that settler. yes, we didn't hve adequate defense but what the heck. I was unsure as to where to send him at first, but since our lone warrior was NE, i went to the corn/marble/3 ivory site. but no pic

barb warriors and archers appeared just at the right time for us:

And 2 warriors attacked york:

Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

Lucky for us, we survived this time.

An archer came at London, too:
Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

after AH came in (we have horses in BOTH bfc's!), i went Wheel which just finished
Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

and on to pottery for us all. We got this quest:
Civ4ScreenShot0005.jpg

which we have no hope of completing i imagine. also, here's a larger pic of our corner of the world.
Civ4ScreenShot0006.jpg

biz is completing Stonehenge in 10 and I imagine its benefits will apply to us as well. York is growing in a couple turns, and i was gonna whip the monument and let the overflow go into the archer, but i guess we don't need to. Also, Boudica is building her first settler.

I think we need to focus on some defense for now as well as a worker when we think we can defend it.

So, I had a very different set this time around. It was roughly the same time period as the set that lost us (me) London in the first game. The difference? Two archers.

Take a look-sy at all the killin'

Some of that early killin' was with warriors. Then we got another archer and the killin was just plain fun.

Somewhere amongst all the gore, we learnt to bake clay. I went iron working next, though agriculture was my #2 choice. I ended up not taking agi because we have no workers.

Back to your regularly scheduled killin'.

As predicted by our fearless leader, Bizhenge happened somewhere in my set.

And, also called by Nostrapholkus, we got free culture in each city.

That's it, really. Killin, killin, killin, pottery, killin, killin, Stonehenge. A set well wasted. I do have a worker started in London who should be whipped if we have a military escort available.

I also left some archers unpromoted, though, in an AW game, I'd probably make all archers CG. Let's wait, though, and see if we have any iron nearby before we make that decision.

one more thing I forgot. Late in my set, our espionage-o-meter flashed an exclaimation mark at me, prompting me to remember that I never really played BtS. What does that mean?

nice set rex :goodjob:

agr might've been a good call simply for our neighbors' sakes but either way...

i think a worker or two might be good for now, and another city. as lat time, we are in the back, so we should look to be making lots of commerce for our team i think.

Okay, it looks like we have a bit of an MIA problem. In absence of any actual leadership, let's give Turd another day to post a turn set. After that, anyone who wants to pick it up is welcome. I think, at this point, the notion of a roster with this game is foolish.
