Picking up the Pieces

Overkill is always good.

Why not, to kill a fly, use a nuclear warhead? Why not?

I wasn't trying to talk you out of it, honestly I myself have been looking forward to seeing someone let one of those off the chain.

Hey,

"Come Noboru time is not on our side." Downstairs his grandmother packed the freshly dried, homemade pulp paper. "This paper needs to be at the printers by 4 am."

Noboru rolled over and looked at the clock. It read 12:23 am. It wasn't supposed to be like this he thought. "I was 14, had the top scores in my academy & had lived in a large house in Tokyo." He whispered as he sat on the edge of the bed, rubbing his eyes. "Now I'm 15, living with my only family member left alive, in a 4 room house with snow to the 2nd floor."

Noboru pulled on this have heavy jacket, wrapped his scarf around his neck & pulled on his oversized boots. He was glad to have the boots even if they were 2 sizes to big for him. That is what extra socks were for. He went downstairs. It was like a hothouse. His grandmother made paper & dried it by small coal fires vented by makeshift chimneys cut out of the snow. "Were to tonight, sobo."

"You'll be going to Koroshimasu Publishing with 200 sheets." She helped him shoulder the large canvas bag with the paper, double wrapped in plastic. This to insure the snow would not get it wet. "I'll have another delivery for you by the time you get back."

Noboru took his Sugegasa , a conical straw hat, off the peg beside the door, quickly put it on and tied the black silk ribbon chin strap. He took down his katana. A quality replica that was all the fashion since the first manga issues of Kill Girl: Miyabi started hitting the streets. You got to hand it to The Yankee Suns & Empress Mako. Within months they had not only forged a foundation of a new Empire. But they had spawned many mom & pop type shops, as the Americans would say. In his line of work it started with the paperboys. People of all ages would collect paper in the cities to be sold to a paper maker like his grandmother. She in turn would sell the homemade pulp paper to a small family ran printing shop. Who then would employee artists & writers for manga. Each little shop produce 1 manga each. Limited runs on issues keep the printings down & made them expensive gifts & worth enough for trading. Tabloids were a whole different monster when it came to publishing. They had quality paper & printed photos. Plus Empress Mako had ruled that Tabloids were forbidden from publishing manga.

There was 36 manga publishers, most having stories based on different Yankee Suns & a full 16 manga based on Empress Mako alone. Noboru delivered to 2 of the Yankee Suns manga. Koroshimasu Publishing who produced Makkuro Rose, translated Blackest of Black Rose. It was based on Lt. Sophie Rose. Veteran of the mainland China battles, soldier of the 1st laser tests. A strict honorable warrior by all means. The title came about, it is said, by her black lips. The other was Hentaisha Publishing which printed his favorite manga, Kill Girl: Miyabi. It was ran by a old man & his middle aged daughter. The old man always said he had inside info for his storylines. A beautiful, hot tempered, loudmouth teen from Tokyo. Defending female virginity & killing aliens with katana & plasma spear. Miyabi was his dream girl.

Noboru slipped the katana under the belt at the small of his back, and quickly left up the snow tunnel to the entrance 9 feet above the door & out into the cold night.

I don't want to cause a fuss, and im sure a lot of people are really enjoying this... but where exactly are we meant to be going? I feel my orders are going to be "more of the same" for a heck of a long time.. scavenge more, expand more, done.

A little help? sorry!

Where would you like to go?

I mean, it is an interesting question. I certainly do not mean to downplay it, but I do not have say, a preconceived plotline here. Do you want to conduct some sort of extended war against the French or make peace with them? Are you interested in the AI cities at all? Would you like to become more involved with religious conflicts between the Circle and the Neter? Do the inmates of the former alien re-education camps catch your interest at all? Trying to deal for technology with players and NPC's? How do you feel about Delta Squadron, would you rather try to negotiate their Hyperspanner away from them or beat them up and take it? Would you like to protect the loudmouths at Greenpeace? Yes, there is a lot more expansion to be done but generally you don't have to order expansion so much as secure encampments outside of your territory to keep things growing at a steady rate.

I admit, for details and direction I generally defer to my collaborators (you guys). I know that the Circle Missionaries will arrive in 3 turns. I know that the inmates at Tyzdron will continue sending out Hybrid AI's to take over cities and enslave the populations. I know that the NPC's who control the unclaimed Wonders will continue to try to incite drama between the players. Other than that I do not have a gameplan for you. I'm sorry if you find the game monotonous, it has been my hope that I have been able to mix up the challenges and NPC offers so that it did not seem so. It was also my hope that the use of long distance transports and telecommunications would make it so that contact with other players happens quickly and allows options for interaction.

But for the most part the direction of your faction mostly has to do with your methodology for expanding the faction. I will work to make sure that you get good plotlines if you would like them, it is possible that I have been spending less time on your parts of the update than I should have, I was just under the impression that you had a direction and enough on your plate.

Oh no no no! Don't take it as a swipe at your NES at all. This is already one of the better run NES I have been in. It is interesting, different, and well moderated (time, detail, interest etc)

I am very busy, and don't deviate from what you are doing. I just either have to invest more time into what I am doing in this NES or accept my own failures!

My only suggestion is perhaps a BT so that our small blobs can grow to actual nation states.. but I totally understand that everyone else is probably loving the detail of having things as they are!

Well, I would require a pretty strong consensus to convince me that this is in fact a boring turn. The problem I see with it right now is that there is only one person who thinks so, and it affects everyone. In fact, I mean, I haven't heard from Omega this turn, I don't know if he's been busy or if he was frustrated by some of the RNG that happened to him last turn. He was pretty much at war with you before you captured one of his fighters, he still has rockets left, and he just got a Navy. This makes me reluctant to believe that this really constitutes a boring turn even for the script kiddies.

Your concerns seem to mainly stem from your perception of the map and how big your blob is. I am not sure why you think this is an actionable statistic, that is, that you would benefit from it growing a great deal along these lines. Personally I would rather see gradual organic growth of borders. In order to do that I would also have to create a large number of NPC's that don't really have any relationship to any of the players and would probably never serve any sort of role. The land under your control is already much larger than the landmass of many effective nation states.

And, more importantly, since this is not a historical NES or one with a predetermined plot what difference would it make to fast forward 2, 5, 30 years? What new options would that make available to my players? Give everyone death rays and huge rocket stockpiles and just have them go at it? I just don't see how that would make the game fundamentally more interesting. If you can't find things to do now, while building an empire, why would it be easier for you to find things to do with all the work done?

I did not think you were swiping at my NES, I certainly do not mean to downplay or write off your questions in any way, but I do have my concerns and I felt that they should be known.

I'm strongly opposed to BTs. I'm trying to scramble together enough forces and supplies to return to space on a large scale. To facilitate this ultimate goal, I've had to create a civilian government, raid all over the place and establish a protective sphere throughout Omicron Wing's lands, deal with a bunch of the recovering human factions, and deal with a lot of inter-species drama. A BT for me would cut things out right in the middle of the action.

If you're unsure of what to do, I'd be happy to enlist you to help get me off of this planet, or if you'd like, to get off of this planet along with me. :D

Why, in these times of strife, did you feel justified in declaring war on us? We will return your pilot, but how will you return our militia you so evilly bombed? To strike against a fellow human nation, with no reason is disgusting. What have you to say for yourself?

Nalese Fighter Group Pi had not gotten involved in the Nalese insurrection. Instead the Commander of this group had devoted himself to rescue operations. The few groups of stranded land troops and shot down crafts who had been willing to trust a Nalese fighter squadron in full and unquestioned command of a carrier, to rescue them had been reunited with larger groups on the ground. Pi was not willing to return to the Horde, they were also not willing to be shot down trying to return soldiers who were being written off as missing in action. If the Rafiki wanted to save them then the Rafiki could have.

They hadn’t.

One last emergency signal. Faint. Ancient.

Crater Lake is the name that has been given to the location by the natives, in the province of Oregan, or something, the human networks seemed nothing but strange to this particular cat.

“Crashed at the bottom of the lake, according to our sensors.”

“Tractor beam, bring it up.”

The massive ship shudders, shakes.

“It’s a big ship sir, I don’t think it’s Rafiki.”

“Bring it up, dammit.”

“Yes sir.”

Suddenly the massive, rounded crest of the strange ship pulls out of the lake, the carrier lands neatly next to a group of scouts.

“Sir, I don’t know what we have here, but it seems to be coming online.”

“What do you mean?”

“This ship has been abandoned here for a very long time sir.”

“How long?”

“It seems to have caused the lake here. We're going to need to do a lot of testing, sir, but these computers seem to be filled with informa…”

The comm channel shuts down, “Do you copy?”

Nothing.

“Call the rest of the Squadron, send someone down to get him out we’re getting away from here before anything happens to the rest of our equipment. Leave that thing alone.”

As for the disagreements between The Yankee Suns & the Omicrom Wing is our affair. We heard you PussN Boots were leaders in the rebellion against the Rafiki & the Horde. According to the bugs & net talk. The Yankee Suns would like to congratulate you on a wonderous job well done.

Now then to dealing. We are very interested in ET Fighter tech. We would be willing to teach your furry butts about the joys of Naval Operations. The Yankee Suns look forward to a reply & offer.

We have elected to consult the opinion of the faction that has provided us with the most support in the past. Omicron Wing is confident, as are we, that a peaceful solution can be brokered whether it involves evacuation or assimilation.
