Picking up the Pieces

Update on previous page.

A generic ET Large Craft traditionally is designed to dock with a supercarrier as they do with Atlantis, it is a smaller ship but the control mechanisms are largely similar. neither is a combat craft.

The "ET Large Craft" can either cross the prime meridian or the equator once a turn, it can carry 4 troops (I think).

The "Supercarriers" have much broader capacities for distance even with the Faster than Light engines busted at the moment.

Either can reach orbit.

We could offer you our diamonds for 3 turns in exchange for Jets and Naval Operation.

We have been here the whole time, but we hadn't been connecting to the networks until the Yankee Suns sent a flyby and we felt a need to hail them in case they intended to attack. We are here for the same reason as you, there are no other habitable planets in this system and our faster than light engines were destroyed in the war. If it hadn't been we would have left with the others. But we've created a co-operative society here and are working alongside noble humans.

We are concerned that this Retrovirus will affect our species' own autonomous processes. We are aware and tolerant of many of your biological manipulations, but we feel distinctly concerned when they're happening in the same biosphere that we too are trapped within.

OOC@SKILORD: So ET Large Craft are basically troop carriers, flying APCs? Or are they armed as well, which would basically make them smallish destroyers in comparison to the supercarrier backbone of the old fleet?

As for the Conglomerate.

It's probably at a quarter strength, not all of the ships who fled were anti-establishment. They are not conquering right now, but are beginning to act as loosely affiliated nomadic traders while they try to figure things out. They are not willing to return to this system no matter what the circumstances.

Karakul_LST_09282001.jpg

Karakul Base was a thriving city. But that had not always been the case.

First, it had been nothing, an empty, arid peninsula extending into an isolated lake in the Central Asian country of Tajikistan. Perhaps it would have remained this way until the end of the Earth, an isolated arid salt lake, cut off from the outside world by some of the most fearsome mountains on the planet. The lake itself had a water level of nearly four kilometres above mean sea level.

However, one event had irrevocably altered this isolated region’s history.

In the height of the Nalese Insurrection the Tourliski-piloted Supercarrier ‘Scafiri’, whose name in Rafiki translates very roughly as ‘Avenger’, was shot down by a collection of Nalese fighters hailing from Squadrons Upsilon, Epsilon, Mu and Eta. Managing to maintain an amount of control, the Scafiri crash-landed on the peninsula, suffering severe damage to its superstructure, drives, weapons systems and generators. With 350 survivors out of the original crew of roughly 1100, the Tourliski found themselves abandoned in an extremely hostile environment. The most significant obstacle to everyday survival was the fact that Earth’s gravity is strong enough to cause rather severe damage to the light frame of a Tourliski, who originate from a rather small planet with roughly half of the gravitational pull. The first solution to this problem was the widespread use of antigravity suits, which are still in use by Tourliski marines today, but a longer-term solution was needed.

Thus was the origin of Karakul Base. Using salvage from the Scafiri, the Tourliski began to construct a gleaming metal spire, filled with gravity-generating systems to create a comfortable internal environment for the Tourliski. Humans in the area, awed by the development and fearful of the anarchy outside, soon began to move in around the base, forming shantytowns. While they were initially rejected, their use soon became evident, and Wing-Commander Tsierik-Lufor Khaz-Dio began offering an exchange of protection for labour. With this deal in place, many humans willingly joined into the Hierarchy of Omicron Wing, serving many of the jobs which the Tourliski lacked the physical strength of numbers to accomplish.

Throughout this time period, Tourliski attitudes towards the native population of Planet Dirt were beginning to go through a shift. While the conquest of Taldykorgan started off as something of a hostile action, it would ultimately prove to be the beginning of a massive change for Omicron Wing. Many of the more forward-thinking Tourliski recognized the value of the humans, and thought that they could feasibly be very useful partners with skills that could help to greatly aid the cause of the Wing. More pragmatically minded Tourliski noted the fact that humans still massively outpopulated them, and they could destroy them once they had access to the technology to do so. Given the failure of Omicron Wing to prevent the dissemination of alien technology, it became viewed as necessary to make allies of the humans, to prevent the complete destruction of the Wing in the future. Adding to these reasons was the fact that many generations of life within the Rafiki Conglomerate, or ‘Horde’ as it was more colloquially known, had left Tourliski quite accepting of interspecies cooperation between former enemies- after all, every member species of the horde had at one point done battle against it.

Thus, as Omicron Wing spread, its population burgeoned with Humans, flocking towards it despite rumours that the Tourliski operations for humans were little better than labour camps. And indeed, during the early days, that was the case. However, as humans proved their worth and bad feelings from the war began to cool down, the humans came to be accepted more and more into the fabric of Omicron Wing. With such a large population, Wing-Commander Tsierik-Lufor Khaz-Dio found himself faced with an increasingly difficult job of operating the Wing. Exerting a military command structure over a small group in one location was straightforward enough. However, by this point Omicron Wing had bases at Karakul, Taldykorgan and Rogun, each of which had rapidly growing populations from Human immigration and the natural population increase of the Tourliski. Faced with a growing civilian population, the hypercentralized military command structure no longer provided adequate governance for the group.

These new, who were born to military parents and thus had no military experience of their ownas the population around Karakul Base grew, with the establishment of secondary bases at Taldykorgan and Rogun, a hypercentralized command structure was becoming increasingly inconvenient and unwieldy. Thus, the Wing-Commander began to redistribute power, initiating the formation of a civilian government. Humans were now able to begin rising into increasingly high positions in Omicron Wing. Having already served as militia, special agents and unskilled labourers, this was viewed as due recognition for the contributions of their species. The slums and shantytowns surrounding the gleaming spires of the Tourliski began to develop, growing into proper cities of their own.

Today, Karakul Base is one of the thriving centers of alien-Human cooperation on the planet. Humans make up roughly 78% of the population, with Tourliski composing 16% and the remaining six being split between other species of the former conglomerate, primarily minor allies of Omicron Wing who fell in combat against stronger enemies and retreated to the safe haven presented by Karakul. Although Omicron Wing has since spread across three continents, Karakul Base remains the nerve center of its operations. The site contains the scavenged and salvaged remains of the Scafiri, the majority of Omicron Wing’s production facilities, and all of the central governance of the Wing, both military and civilian. From this site, Omicron Wing seeks to further establish its control on the planet, to aid in its ultimate goal of a return to spacefaring life.

This is not a realistic threat, your computers are all well behaved and turn the message over to you, but it is a sign that there is an AI City that has you in its sights and if it is equipped with a Mind Control Ray it may well begin sending out brainwashed troops to do battle.
