Pie's Ancient Europe

Ok so, I think you mean that I should allow to develope axewarriors to hoplits or shortswordsmen, right?

And one question from above: what do you exactly mean with civic High Priest and Theocraty rewarding other religions?

Exactly. In my opinion, it should be possible for all civilizations to upgrade all units until they are useful in the late game, even if only slightly. Axewarriors should upgrade into Shortswordmen as well as Axemen, and Shortswordsmen should be able to upgrade into Maniple Legions and Immortals as well as Longswordmen.

As for the latter: Each religion normally gives -2 happiness. If you build a Greek, Egyptian, Zoroastrian, Jewish, or Christian temple, that gives +1 happiness, reducing the total penalty to -1. If you then have the High Priests Civic active, the penalty is reduced to -0, meaning that there is no cost to having additional religions (As long as they are one of those five) and, due to the temples producing culture/gold/defense/whatever, some benefit.

hm.. there is a big problem in upgrading an old unit into a news one in CIV. if you cannot upgrade to a newer unit, the old one still appears in the building menu. eg. I am a celt, who do not have shortswordsmen but axemen. so, when I can only upgrade my axewarriors to axemen, the axewarrior disappears in the city menu and the later game...
If a axewarrior can also upgrade to a shortswordsman (which I cannot be able to as a celt) the axewarrior still appears in the building menu all the time... thats annoying and was claimed by another player in the german forum.
So I have changed this fact, that I will upgrade axewarriors to axemen and axemen to longswordsmen (that was a part of your wish). I think this will be the best.

second: in my opinion, fighting with an axe is completely different then fighting with a sword!

The civic issue: you're right. I will change this... by the way, I changed some more and added a new specialist: Free citizen! (+1 prod, +1 culture). So that the civics where slaves and glads can become free citizens get more interesting.

See, the issue there is that that means that Axewarriors are counterintuitively an awful idea for the Greeks or Romans or anyone who doesn't get axemen. I would prefer to still see axewarriors as the Gauls than be unable to make use of axewarriors as the Greeks.

As for the second: This is Civilization. You can turn a Warrior (club) into an Axeman (axe) into a Maceman (mace) into a Rifleman (Single-shot muzzle loader rifle) into an Infantry (AK-47). It's still the same unit.

Anyway. It's your map, and I'll play it whatever you do. Thanks for listening to me.

Ed - Civics: Thanks! That should be neat.

hm.. no, I will implement this fact to upgrade axewarrior to shortswordsman too. the celt civs should also be able to build shortswordsmen but with a different skin! why not!
so the problem is solved... thanks for this well thought arguments!

In the next 2 weeks ? *gg*... thinking of The Money Pit ;)

well... but... it sounds realistic for me....

The Money Pit... with Tom Hanks? That came up earlier this evening, while I was ... imbibing locally brewed grains until I was intoxicated. Peculiar.

Looking at this new map by veBear, I think instantly of a scenario for Pie's Ancient Europe, set in the third century B.C., covering the Pyrrhic and Punic wars, featuring Samnites, Bruttians, Illyrians, Cretans, just to mention a few of which we know there are unit skins already there (and really good ones). If anybody takes on the scenario design I could help with adding units (which is the only thing I can contribute, or maybe some map rework). Just dreaming probably…

work, work, work....

but: the new update release comes closer and closer ....

Still waiting to try this one with the city defenses beefed up, looking forward to see how it plays:goodjob:

;)
Stockade: 25%
Walls: 50%
High Walls: 100%

in sum: 175%

too less?

No love it:goodjob: , something mods pay little attention to and we all know taking cities is way too easy.

Perhaps I am still using an older version, but... it's just sad when I am first to get Music, a Great Artist is born, but the city in which he is born just happens to have plague that turn and, of all units there, the Great Artist is the one who succumbs. Sad.

:) ... oh... *gg* damn... sh-;) happens.. *gg*.

no. this won't happen in the new version, which could be downloadable in a few days.....

hi pie,

For the next update you might consider some of the art coalesced into RFRE already. Much of the art can be the same.

Can you tell me who created the Alter of Pergamum, and the "naval port"? The Alter is not in RFRE yet, and for the Port of Carthage I have a much less appropriate graphic.

hey primo!! this is a great honor, that you're contacting.

all the credits are listed in the credit of PAE.txt file of the download.
Some buildings, like the pergamon and naval port, are from www.andreascharell.de (got to 3D Models). I just sent him an email, but he must be very busy ... ;(

I am sorry, I've never tried RFRE because I just play BTS and had no idea, that there could be great mods for warlords....

As I could read, that there is no plan for your RFRE Mod for BTS, what about a PAE modmod for RFRE for BTS? could you imagine that? But wait some days.... the new update kicks the old version out ;)

thanx for you offer for the skins, when I've got the time, I WILL have a look to your mod and the skins.
I prefer to have a "already-seen" effect on units. But some players prefer to use thousands of skins, although it's the same unit.... ...so one day... I will have to implement all different unit art.... I know.... ;(
;)

ehm: The new version is still running in the german forum. So, maybe it is too late for this one, but I will add some nice features, which are in planning and then I could use your graphics!
Thanks for your offer!!!

The next update will be uploaded in the next few days. A big list of great new features and updates will follow....

Would you believe...? Same game: just finished Ten Commandments and, lo and behold, plague strikes! Which city? The one that just got a Great Prophet and 12 named Jewish emigrants. Needless to say, lost prophet and 3 emigrants. This is just...
