I see the steel coil of the hammer spring. Still don't see any string.
Look near the trigger; it's white.

That is part of the hammer spring. None of it is string. It's made of steel and coils around the base of the hammer and works the same way as an old mouse trap.

Oh well - it looked like string to me. Am I correct that it is a cable of some sort?

That's right. It's a torsion? spring. Similar to what you'll find on an old mouse trap. It looks a lot different than what's in that video you linked to.
