How limited is the tissue supply?

If you take the weakest with you initially then your moving VERY slowly and running out of water faster - given that we cant be sure exactly where the oasis is we would have to be absolutely spot on with the navigation AND travel in the easiest and most direct line to it. Otherwise, we will very quickly end up lost in the middle of nowhere exhausted and out of water.

I say we build a rudimentary shelter for the weaklings giving them some sort of shade to shelter in while the stronest set off to find the water. Also, an oasis will probably have food supplies there too in the form of dates, coconuts etc etc - these can be brought back with the water too. With the increased supplies it will be easier to move the weaker ones to the oasis and the navigation would have been worked out by then, making the journey quicker too.

Split up then the ones left behind can wait to see if theres a rescue party and give the others some canisters to bring some water back with

also traveling at night would be best due to the coolness of the conditions use the Bus as a shelter and you can use the water in the engine for some extra water and at the Oasis there may be some Cammels in which people can ride to further places

Split the group up.

The weakest links stay back in the bus. That is a given.

I suspect that heading for the oasis is a misleading clue. Right before the bus broke down, there was a faint thunder, right? Where there is thunder, there is rain, and where theres rain there is not desert, and where there is not desert there possibly can be towns! First priority is to see if anybody in the group could remember where the thunder came from.

Leaving at night, the strongest(s) of the group head towards the thunder trying to find water supplies or rescuers.

This is probably one of the more difficult solutions, but if they get out of the desert chances of being rescued are high!

Hmm, it can rain in the desert though. Not often, but it can. Maybe we need to follow any dried up river beds we see as they might lead to the oasis?? I'm running out of ideas now as navigation is definately not my forte.

Edit - it said "the middle of the Sahara" - cant be any towns nearby. Maybe the thunder is the clue to the direction of the oasis?

Wait til it rains.... :p (j/k)

Send half to the direction of the thunder and half stay at the bus doing nothing except drinking water but using it sparingly. Of course, the people on the bus would give the people that are going out some of their water because they would be needing it more than the people staying on the bus.

However, what Zultan meant by thunder could just as well be a sandstorm. ;) Besides, in this place, rain would just evaporate before it hit the ground.

I propose that everyone moves together to the oasis, but in bunches, with the stronger ones scouting out the area, but always a little ahead of the weaker ones. I, whoops, the latter can still keep up a bit. This way, the former can still come back and help if there's any trouble.

to make this a little easier for me to look over, I see three different options that you are debating

1. All of you head for the oasis, following dried out rivers and whatever else you have discussed.

2. The "weak" stay at the bus, the others go to the oasis, and hopefully return in time to save the one left behind.

3. You all go, but in different pace, having the weakest ones at the tail of the party. Is that right so far?

@civcube - That sounds like a compromise that will acheive little.

@ Zultan - seems to be about right. So we vote on the option we wish to choose from those 3 then?

Sorry it took me so long to weigh in...

First off, make damn sure you can’t get the bus back in working order. Nothing “just breaks down”, so put some effort into trying to find out what went wrong. If it is beyond hope, salvage whatever might be useful, such as any kind of cloth, gas, mirrors (for signaling an airplane), or whatever may be useful. If possible, cut the upholstery from the seats. It would be vital for some kind of shelter.

Priority one is water, and then food. Efforts to get help, or wait for it, are at best useless at this time, and at worse, a disastrous waste of resources. Chasing the storm, while a tempting idea, would be a bad move. Too risky

In my opinion, the obvious thing to do is have everyone head for the oasis. After all, it has to be better than where you are. The ONLY reason to stay with the bus is that it would be easier for any plane to see, but if they saw the bus they would no doubt see the oasis and would hopefully connect the dots.

Everyone should make the trek. If anyone would stay behind, that’s a 2 day journey to go back and get them. Some kind of sled would have to be made if someone couldn’t walk.

To sum up, I am in favor of everyone leaving the bus and heading for the oasis. It’s the only chance aside from a one-in-a-million rescue, and if someone sees the bus, they can find you by following your tracks. Go over the bus with a fine-tooth comb and take everything of use that you can carry. It may slow you down some, but it sure beats having to walk back for something you might need.

stonefan!

Examaning the bus reveals a few interesting things. One, you can gather some useful things, to make windshelter/sunshelter from.

You also get some old tapes with (according to the labels) Arabian top10 hits from the late 1980's.

The bus is in perfect working order...the only thing wrong is that the power in it has died for some strange reason. Juice is all gone!

And to all of you, remember to PM me and vote on who you want to get rid of,

First, about the vote PM's - Could you post the day and time of the voting deadline? When does the countdown officially start?

Okay, so the bus is dead as a doornail. But cassette tape could make an excellent material to tie or secure something with, so that's a little bit of luck.

Concerning the magazine - While I like both camels and Arab girls, I would be willing to toss it away so as not to antagonize the female members of the group. I'm just that kind of guy. :D

Adhering to that chivalrous attitude, I'd let a lady have the shades too.

Okay - I have a concern. Not everyone can sit at CFC and post all day like I can, and I think those that can post all they want have an advantage over those that can't. I don't want anyone to get shortchanged because they actaully work or something. ;)

Perhaps we should be limited to say, three posts a day each. Or maybe even one. Zultan of course would be exempt from this. It would be much more organized, as everyone would state their case in one post and people can read it and draw their conclusions without having to go through all the smaller posts. If you think of more, you can edit your original post as much as you want.

Just an idea.

1. No, everyone posts as much as he or she wants. My sponsors are all in the broadband industry, and this is part of the deal. Sorry Stone;)

Belle. The time I am using is the one in this forum, yes. You can se the "last edited" note in the first post of the mission. 24 hours onward is the deadline.

You utter bastard! :D

That's okay, Zultan. I would actually prefer it this way myself, since I think it's a lot of fun to talk about it all day. This was a great idea.

And they say the boards aren't a blast anymore!

Just a side note, if somebody needs to dropo out, for work related re3sons etc, I'd like to play.

Looks like you might get the chance, History_buff. From what I can tell, we have three folks who have yet to speak up.

If the bus is in working order except for a power issue couldn't we push it and get it going agian when we achieve some momentum.

If the bus is not salvagable I'm also In favor of leaving towards the water supply, I advise that we go in a group so we don't get seperated, also I recommend looking for any liners or things we can use to trap rainwater.
