Huh, I didn't know that it was entirely your fault.

HRE is Eastern European?

Poland's been invaded millions of times, it was wiped off the map for a while, communist era, diaspora, Nazis' enemies etc.

We've invaded more countries than countries have invaded us. (aside from border skirmishes). Germans themselves find Nazi's as enemies.

I never mentioned Germans.

You introduced Germans in to the dimension. Why?

That's what Poles do. They don't want to blame themselves for their own problems, so they continue to blame the Germans and demand outrageous concessions (see Poland in the Lisbon Treaty [wanting their votes based on the population they would have had if the Germans didn't invade.])

Now now... That was our idiot govornment. We don't want that much votes! But yes, we should've been given more votes, we are a big country after all. We should be nearly equals to Spain. And I think it is the opposite. We bring in something irrelevant that has to do with Poland and hijack the thread. :p

To clear the german stuff, you said 'Nazi's enemies' i replied 'Even the Germans don't like the Nazi's'. I meant that Nazi's were universally hated, you can't bring up a point like that. Besides i doubt Neo-Nazi's hate Poland.

(see Poland in the Lisbon Treaty [wanting their votes based on the population they would have had if the Germans didn't invade.])

If that's entirely true that is ridiculous. Utterly so.

Kaczynski didn't do that. The problem was the strenght of votes of particular countries. We had received reasonably good strenght at Nice, while we were suffering from bad conditions in another matters. So Poland didn't want to lose Nice voting system without getting something in return. But France, Germany etc just wanted Poland to accept their opinion. Poland proposed a system based on root of number of population, which I consider personally quite good, because it's based on population, but decreases the vast differences between various countries. It wouldn't actually be very favourable to Poland, but would decrease the strenght of the biggest european countries, and elevate the power of the smallest, making Poland and other medium countries relatively stronger. When Germany insisted on a system directly transfering the number of citizens into the number of votes at European Parliament, Kaczynski commented that Germany should not push this agenda that much, because Poland would have had much bigger population if not ww2.

That was in the heat of discussion, and an unwise thing to do, but taking this as a serious proposition and bringing it up years after the event even more idiotic than the Kaczynski's comment itself.

You know, Poland isn't even the #1 mentioned country in off-topic.

This might be a somewhat more accurate ranking:

1. U.S.A.
2. Iraq
3. Poland
4. Iran
5. Afghanistan
6. Canada

Russia should be on that list somewhere. Israel and Palestine don't come up quite as often, but are often become very divisive and contentious very quickly.

The trigger issue on the OT was the central/eastern Europe issue, but as Bill said the ontopic issue of cfc set the stage by getting nationalistic Poles onto the site. We don't really talk about Irish or Korean issues because they aren't a whole lot of Irish and Koreans around.

Let's be real. Eastern Europe is just a euphemism for Unimportant Europe. The "west" Europe consists of the post-imperial states and Western powerhouses. You can draw silly lines all you want, but the Eastern vs. Western Europe distinction is one of historical precedence not geography. Everyone pretty much knows this, and the reason this Poland garbage always comes up is because Poles want to make sure people think they're on the "cool side," which is a completely counterproductive action, whereas sane western Europeans usually don't give a crap what people think about their respective nations and usually are the ones bewailing their own countries. So pretty much you can tell Eastern Europeans from "western" Europeans by their constant inferiority complex and misplaced nationalism, while wests Euros realize they don't have to derive their personal identity from where they were born. Given this it's pretty obvious which side Poland is on.

Actually, if we leave aside several hyperboles and generalizations, including that inferiority complexes and misplaced nationalism is the defining characteristic for anyone due East from Germany, there is a some valid substance in this post.

There are people on these forums, who go (or, at least, used to go) quite over the top asserting "we be in Central Europe, we have naught to do with barbaric East!" - something which I've always found quite silly and embarrassing.

This completely arbitrary and unimportant classification simply does not deserve all this fuss.
