The trigger issue on the OT was the central/eastern Europe issue, but as Bill said the ontopic issue of cfc set the stage by getting nationalistic Poles onto the site.

There's nationalistic Poles and non-nationalistic Poles..

This completely arbitrary and unimportant classification simply does not deserve all this fuss.

But if somebody kept calling you a Fin, you'd correct him, wouldn't you?

That's not really analogous tho - nobody's calling Poles 'Germans' or 'Byelorussians' or 'Czechs'.

It's more analogous to saying that Virginia isn't in the South, to say Poland isn't in Central Europe.

the thing is, poland is eastern european, estonia is not asian.

Where are you from, Vienna? I was born @ the exact same latitude.

Anyway, that's not what this thread is about. This thread is about:

Poles are our brothers...sometimes...I know about Poland much more than about Japan or India, thats a reason for take part in discussion :p I dont know why is Irish guy so obsessed with Poland though :mischief:

Poland is in eastern europe because it was communist.

Poland is in eastern Europe because they are Slavs.

We will be nearing par with Western Europe soon. And we arent poor compared to Ukraine, Belarus, and other states that are in EASTern europe.

Wrong again. Only border territories of Poland are Eastern Europe geographically. The rest is Western Europe.

Let's be real. Eastern Europe is just a euphemism for Unimportant Europe. The "west" Europe consists of the post-imperial states and Western powerhouses. You can draw silly lines all you want, but the Eastern vs. Western Europe distinction is one of historical precedence not geography. Everyone pretty much knows this, and the reason this Poland garbage always comes up is because Poles want to make sure people think they're on the "cool side," which is a completely counterproductive action, whereas sane western Europeans usually don't give a crap what people think about their respective nations and usually are the ones bewailing their own countries. So pretty much you can tell Eastern Europeans from "western" Europeans by their constant inferiority complex and misplaced nationalism, while wests Euros realize they don't have to derive their personal identity from where they were born. Given this it's pretty obvious which side Poland is on.

The continuation of this thread only further proves my point.
