no matter what kind of victory you seek, if you had to choose THE civ, who would you pick and why?

i'm not asking who you have more fun to play with. just the civ you think is the best with its unique ability and unique units or buildings.

i know there was already a poll on this a couple weeks ago but people mixed the two things so i wanted to clarify this. so who is the STRONGEST civ once and for all? let's say the map is huge but random with a lot of city-states and civs.

thx.

ps: i didn't put denmark as it has not been released yet.

Persia for me, what's not to love about prolonged, boosted, Golden Ages. :king:

Just prioritise the right Wonders, Social Policies etc.. and you can have decades of GA's. And time them right, and you get a powerful military boost for conquests.

The UU is ok (mid tier) and the UB is good (mid to top tier).

Well, if the object is to simply win the game then I'd take Mongolia over anyone else as I feel more unstoppable in an early war with Keshiks and Khan than with any other civ.

Probably not too popular, but I find India unstoppable once you get to a certain point. With such a huge population you end up outproducing and outteching everyone else.

The double unhappiness for number of cities is nothing compared to the half unhappiness from population.

They suck in other aspects, but the half unhappiness is more than enough.
They have little going for them early on though.

Same here. Keshliks are almost unbeatable. They can even put a human opponent in trouble. :)

Well, I know that I've picked about the most dissed civ there is. But I can't help it; I like the B-17 and you have to be America to build it!:)

Songhai, it's triple talented. It's UA is a gold bonus, it's UU is a warmongering bonus, and it's UB is a culture bonus. And it works on nearly every map. Although Siam and Japan are good too, and I can't wait for Denmark.

Also, I surprised many people didn't choose Russia. When you sell your excess resources, you can get a better gold bonus than Arabia.

agree. Once you past medieval you shouldn't have any problems anymore.

The other candidates for me are france : the cultural bonus is gigantic.

Persia : especially if you have the one or other Golden Age wonder.

Babylon without a doubt, 25+ great scientist points per turn allows you to absolutley canabilise the tech tree.

Babylon; tech is necessary for ANY victory condition, and they are the best at it! (Slightly less powerful now with library slots gone, but still pretty darn amazing.) Persia is in 2nd place for all around awesomeness since their golden ages help with any victory condition as well.

Too little experience with Russia, but they are quickly becoming one of my favorite civs with all the excess resources to sell! Great way to make friends. If they stab you in the back, the deal is cancelled and their units (in excess of what they produce internally or with other trades) suffer a huge penalty!

I'd tend towards Mongolia, just for the Keshik. My warmongering isn't all that good, so the Keshik gives me the boost I need in that department.

Japan hands down. Units fight full strength even when near death, while your wounded opponent do not fight back so hard. When you consider the 1 unit/hex limit, this allows concentrated attack power that lasts - insanely powerful.

The AI obviously does not take this into consideration, always miscalculates and gets beaten.

Took Songhai. Probably the best warmonger civ between the UA and UU, and a top-notch UB to go along with it.
