I'd like to think I'd be smart enough not to consume any food or drink prepared by that man.
He may lie without cause, but he only kills when he has something to gain by it. :p Dr. Bashir did survive seven years of weekly lunch with Garak. :p I'd love to have shared lunch with them and sparred over literature, philosophy, and other intellectual conversation. :D

I think we will get the requisite Sahel civ (Mali or otherwise) sooner or later. But I lean towards later since Nubia was introduced in the last wave of DLC.
Well if the Prophet says so...

I see no reason why Africa won't snag a slot if Asia can get Khmer, Indonesia, Korea, Mongolia, and Chandragupta Maurya in relatively quick succession

That and this whole spiel:

  • “Is this region of the world represented?”
  • “Is this time in history represented?”
  • “Is this represented/revered in previous Civilization games or totally new?”
This leads me to believe that Mali has a good shot. Its region is not represented yet, Mansa Musa's era is not well represented (assuming he leads them), and they're a much requested civ from a previous iteration.

The only thing that makes me doubt their inclusion is the fact that we've got the Netherlands and now the Cree, which both use trade mechanics. That said, I can see a faith-based trading niche for Mansa Musa while the rest of the Malinese civilization does something else unrelated to gold generation.

Break Asia down into regions and reconsider. SEA is probably as full as it will get now. So is East Asia. Central Asia is also getting their usual allotment of just the Mongols.

I think Mali is part of a Sahel rotation. They did Songhai as part of that rotation last time. Maybe they will do Mali again or maybe Ashanti. But either way, Africa has been served recently and there are series regulars (some of whom are typically mutually exclusive) and a dark horse hype-driver to accommodate. If they hold off, Africa will get a double helping (Sahel/Zulu, maybe even Ethiopia) in the second expansion, which will be pleasing.

If you allow Carthage to count as African (I don't), I think it has a decent chance as a series regular.

To be fair, the only one of those I am close to certain we won't see in this expansion is the Zulu. We can probably expect them later, I just don't see a place for them in R&F when the "warmonger" slot is decidedly taken.
Hey, just because she presided over both World War's don't impugn Wilhelmina's character like that!

No, current incarnation of China is not the most powerful China relative to the world (well in absolute terms every nation is most powerful today :p ).

For most of the human history it is estimated China had up to 25-30% of total population of humanity, now it is "only" 18%.
On top of that, for most of history China had global share of economy not much lesser than its share of population.
It was also insanely developed regarding science and technology until Europe catched up at some point in the early modern era.
During 3500 years of its confirmed history, China was conquered by the outside invaders just twice - in one case it required Mongol Empire, and in the second massive internal breakdown and Machu invasion on top of that.

Ironically, China was probably at its worst point in history during Mao because it has its lowest share in global economy and scientific output ever, while suffering most enormous loss of life of its entire history due to either genocide or insane mismanagment (or mix of both).

So yeah, that's about it regarding Mao as leader of China.
Thank God Firaxis finally stopped adding two modern genocidal killers to the game.

And my response to "But Genghis Khan!" "argument" of such leaders apologetics is simple:
I can forgive mass killings perpetrated by men from barbaric times clouded by centuries, also when we have no idea how much of what we know of them is true and when it was simply very long ago.
I cannot forgive mass murderers from the modern era - they should have known better and done better. Bonus points for living people impacted by their genocidal regimes.

China was conquered by outsiders partially more than twice, like at the fall of the Han, Tang, and Song dynasties. They didn't rule as large a territory as the Mongols or Manchu, but they were still ethnically non-Chinese, ex: Xiongnu, Xianbei, Jurchen, Qiang, Tangut, Khitan, etc. They would co-exist with smaller ethnic Han Chinese dynasties.

I think the reference was to Seondeok training all those Hwarang soldiers since the Netherlands were neutral in the first World War. :D

I'm half expecting some new Civs, and half expecting some returning Civs. :p

I predict two new and two old. Still sticking with, in order:

Ottomans
Inca
Africa (favouring Ashanti)
Wildcard (maybe Georgia, Italy is possible but less likely to me)

So could it be that those drawings were Boudicca wielding her sword after all.
Celts I think are good
a bit surprised if zulus come at the same time as the Mongols. A lot of warmongery

If it's truly the Zulu and the Celts, that seems rather underwhelming somehow, despite them bring series regulars. I hope they also do the Inca and Ottomans, which truly ought to have been in already. I hope we get more info if these are legit leaks.

Thinking about it, why are we all so confident about the Ottomans and Inca? I've totally forgotten what hints / evidence we have that they will be included! :shifty:
