Postcounts: To to or not to be?

Should we keep postcounts?

You are wrong about one thing....postcounts do determine your default "title".
Although I must say I like CFC also for the same reasons. I also liked my postcount where it was :)

I vote yes, but really I am so thankful that this site doesn't allow crappy animated gifs and "extra features" like getting points for posts and leveling up your character, purchasing crap for your online paper-doll, reputation points, etc.

this is because CFC isnt ghey. only one forum on the internet where the "money feature" is one that I like, and non others.

You can still see your 1000 post mark when you get there. It's in your public profile in the first box on the left under your sig. (Incidentally, I don't know how I feel about a M4A3E8 coming to blow me . . .)

Start counting you posts and put the number on your sig...

andway, perfection and other ''professional'' spammers must have a really bad day...

I think post counts are useful. It shows how much a person has contributed to the sight and how knowledgable they are about its workings. I have added my count, 115 as of now, to my signature. So you all know not to ask me any questions about posting pics or such. ;)

Not really as the majority of that postcount can be comprised of spammy short one liner's that don't really contribute. For example, many good posters in the History Forum don't have a large postcount. And a large postcount can also be attained through playing various games, like NESsing.

Even with I being a n00b for now, I would like to see in the future my 1000 posts mark.

I like your sig sherman, but I think it would be wise to add the word "up" after the phrase "coming to blow you" (if you know what I mean) ;)

Well I guess it could, but I find it hard to believe people have 100's or 1000's of posts of spam. A few one liners would probably just be considered a joke.

EXACTLY what i was thinking; to actually combat eletism, your going to have to get rid of all the statisitics, titles and avatars on the forum; and if that happend, the forum woul dloose a great deal of its charm, as all apperent individuality is stamped out; and undersuch conditions, i knwo i for one woudl no longer stay here- and I belive it is the same with many others.

That's very illogical.

I don't care.. Although it is distrubting how many people DO care ;).

Since many people are adjusting their sigs, here's a reminder of the limitations on them:

Keep your signature brief.
This forum has a signature feature that allows you to "sign" your posts with a customized block of text. The text may include links to other sites (as long as they are within the forum rules) and emoticons. No derogatory references to other members, spoiler tags, or quote tags are allowed in signatures.

Signatures are limited to 5 lines of regular (size 2) text. Using smaller text (size 1) allows 7 lines of text. Larger text (size 3) allows 3 lines of text. No text size larger then size 3 should be used. The number of lines for any text size includes blank lines and room used by emoticons and is evaluated at 1024x768 resolution.

Keep 'em off. It serves no useful purpose.

I can't beleive TF caved to those whiners.

So if we have a different opinion we're whiners?

You'll get used to it - just like the ad at the top of the page. And plus, how hard is it to go into someone's profile or here? Some people are lazy...

Why do we need to click 2 more times to understand who posts how much?
Postcounts serve two purposes:
Same as join-date and location they tell how active a person has been.
They add a bit of personalityto each poster and make "thread profile" more fun to see.

Upon removing you will make more people click MORE times to see who is active and who is not. I rarely go see people's profiles why should I use my time to find out who posts often? The info was avaliable to me before...

Removing postcounts does not mean that people will spam less (my post per day has increased today due to this actually :) ), but takes away a part of persons forum Identity....

And I'm guessing now people (if they want to and some do) will discriminate on "join date" rather than post count which is even more unfair on newbies...

If you want to see who is ACTIVE, we should switch postcount with posts per day (fine with me) - you can have a high post count, go on a long hiatus, not post for a while, come back and make 1 post. My postcount adds personality to me even though it's ever-changing? Interesting...

Clicking more times is not really a problem - come on, one or two clicks takes a second MAX. Posts doesn't tell you who posts often, posts-per-day does. Discriminating vs. a Sept 2005 join date and a 1 post person is the same, there is no more 'unfair' one - in both cases, the person thinks they are a newbie. Having 1 post doesn't make people think more 'fairly' of you.

In the poll in OT, more than 82% said post count removal wouldn't affect their posting at all, and only around 7% said it would lessen their posting. Xen who seems to be a leader in this 'crusade' said it would make him post more...
