Pound for pound who is the fiercer beast?

Who would win in a fight, assuming equal weight & no special training?

Dogs are always for fighting n killing. dogs are generally more aggressive and energetic than a cat, if we scale a cat up, it would still be a cat and dangerous to small animals. A dog would pick fights with things bigger than them.
For energy, try an Abyssinian. It's The Duracell-cat.

And one shouldn't mistake the fact that cats are nature's sprinters with somehow "lacking energy". The energy is there, it just gets delivered in short bursts, usually out of sight of human eyes. The tendency is that when we see kitty, it's just killed and eaten a family of five small and furry things, and is having a well deserved rest.

I've seen fit outdoor cats jump 2 meters more or less straight up from a standing start. Never saw a dog able to accelerate like that.

when in the hell have you ever seen a cat take down a rabbit?

besides the most ferocious beast is the Ferocious Beast

Quite so.

Cats hunt on their own so must ambush, then attack and kill fast.
Dogs hunt in packs, only need to wound but need stamina for chase.

A cat of same weight would beat a dog in a cat v dog fight.

But a pack of dogs would scatter a group of cats.

Cats are more vicious than dogs, so I say cats.

This isn't even open for debate:

Timber wolves and mountain lions are roughly the same weight and I have to say I think a mountain lion would kick the holy living snot out of a timber wolf every single day of the week.

Cats no contest... Just think a leopard vs a any large dog ould resut in the dog being destroyed. I once saw a 7-8 pound cat of ours attack a 130 pound dog. That dog never messed with the cat again...

I've only seen one cat vs dog 'fight' (my parent's neighbour's cat vs my uncle's dog). The cat connected its claws with the dog's snout, which was enough to send the dog packing - and bleeding.

This time you get to say who you'd pick in a fight between a 10 pound dog or cat (or 50 pound dog vs. cat).

Match 1:
In the Left Corner: Katy from Russia weighting 23kg/51 lbs

In the Right Corner: Unnamed Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Approx weight 22kg/48lbs)

And the winner is....
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier!

Match 2:
In the Left Corner: Unnamed Cat from Quingdao, China, Weighting 15kg/33lbs
In the Right Corner: A Japanese Shiba Inu, (Approx weight 10kg/22lbs)

And the winner is....
The Shiba Inu!

You people voting dogs must have never seen feral cats. There's a few by where I live, and nothing messes with them. My "tame" cat can bring down hares, chases the neighbors hunting dog out of our yard, and jump 6 feet straight up, without a run up. Not to mention that cats are way faster and more acrobatic, they could literally run circles around a dog during a fight.

A pack of dogs vs a pack of cats would be a different story, but 1-1 there's no question.

My 19 year old declawed cat kills rabbits.

And as I already mentioned, my 10 years old cat (not declawed though) has been known to run down and kill hares.

Just because most cats tend to go after mice doesn't mean cats won't go after bigger targets.

Agreed with the above, though. Equal numbers greater than one, the dogs get the win. They're pack hunters in ways no cats really are.

My dad had a cat. While she was pregnant she attacked a German Shepherd and the dog never went near her again.
One of my sisters has a cat. My dog is scared of her, and huskies have a strong hunting instinct.

Think Puma vs. Wolf. A puma is a powerful hunter and would probably kill the wolf. However, wolves are pack animals, and if a pack of wolves went up against several pumas, I'll bet the wolves' superior tactics would give them the upper hand.

Dogs hunt best in packs. A cat is better at hunting alone than a dog. One on one? The cat tends to have better odds in a fight.

Nothing is certain, though, even from the examples above (docile cat vs pit, or similar matchup).

Huskies are softies most of the time. I wouldn't expect mine to fight anyone. ;)
