Pre-ChaNES: Into the Void

That is what I was hoping for. Regardless of the importance of oil, some of these nations do export or import plenty from America, and I am sure some other nations may follow suit once I get enough support from the IISP. Besides, Indonesia will be pressing for the demilitarization of space as soon as possible, and America seems to be the only nation set on trying to fight in space at the moment. A host of trade embargos/economic sanctions might be enough to change their minds... ;)
The European Union supports the current nonmilitary nature of space. However, if someone starts arming their spacecraft, we will be forced to do the same. It will not be Europe who fires the first shot of the next frontier.

Neither will it be America.

(BTW, America has been independent of oil use for almost five decades now. We haven't used OPEC oil in a long time, and I doubt they have much left anyway. We're using hydrogen fuel cells mixed with Solar and Hydro power now.)

Lurker's Comment: The lower classes will always suffer and chafe at their problems and concerns. Keep the middle and upper classes happy niklas, and the small problems of the lower classes will mean nothing in the greater scheme of things as long as they remain small ones. ;) Living standards in China don't exactly have anywhere to go but up :mischief:

Neil Tawil looked over various documents and red tape while humming a clumsy mixture of Stars and Stripes Forever and Land of Hope and Glory. He had been 'inaugerated' several days ago, and his job had just got harder, very quickly. Every since the storm of '74, no one had held this job for more than a month, usually quiting due to stress. Neil was determined not to.

He got up from his desk, stretched a little, and walked over to the window. He could see storms brewing in the distant that, according to meterologists, won't make it inland, or won't come this way. He turned up the de-humidifier and got back on with his work.

Just a little story to begin with. So what is the role of the governor? Do I send in orders, or does the guy at the top (Hend Serf) still do that?

And another thing, directed at Head Serf, what's the capitol called? New Washington?

Ok, here is what you may not do: (if you do, I declare war on you, and destroy you)

1. You must not attack American military or civilian personnel, either living in or visiting the colony.
2. You must allow open (not neccesarily free) trade between your colony and the American nation.
3. You must not conspire to, nor act, in any way that would require the United States to defend itself.
4. You must send income to the US Federal Government when requested (but please see below)

Here are some rights you are guarenteed:

1. You may tax your citizens as you decide to.
2. You may have your own military, independent of the US Federal Government's military.
3. You will never be required to send more than 1/3 of your income to the US Government.
4. You may conduct separate diplomacy, although all agreements must be disclosed to the US Federal Government.

Everything else is your decision! You can decide what to name the capital. I personally like the idea of naming it after a previous president's last name, such as Romney, O'Malley, Gephardt, or Astor, but the decision is yours.

Head Serf will still send orders for America as a whole, while your orders focus more specifically on Infinitas. How you develop on Carmenta and Bacchus, whether you attempt to colonize other planets in the system, and how you act towards competing colonies are all good things to address in your orders, though they might conflict with those of your nation.

Just as important is something you've apparently already started on - developing an identity for your system beyond simple stats.

Certainly Head Serf may have a name already in mind, but this is one of the things you can decide for yourself. ;) Of course, it shouldn't matter much... unless you intend to make yourself an independent nation, hm? :mischief:

Edit: Xpost with Head Serf, too.

OK, I see. Well, I'll send orders when I figure what is actually to be done on Carmenta. And when (and if) there are stats on Carmenta.

I might just call the capital Clinton.

Just to clarify, since America has colonies on both Carmenta and Bacchus, both of those are under your control. However, since they're still relatively small installations at this point, they don't have any individual stats.

a trickle? I think I just emptied a bucket on you.

Excedingly long and overinflated orders sent.

Don't worry, I like them that way. ;)

Also, I should add that names for the systems and planets of 021-047, 151-056, and 066-165 are all open to be chosen by players. I suppose it's fine for some of the planets within lower potential systems to retain official designations, but I wouldn't mind having actual names instead of ugly ###-### designations either.

Is Carmenta open as a governorship?

Alright, I've got orders from Indonesia as well, with one day left 'till the deadline. I've started working on the update, too, so hopefully the delay between the deadline and the update will be smaller this time.

I would like to join this NES, as it has triggered my interest.
