Pre-Fantasy NES thread

So, you've decided to go with mages being versed in one or another school of magic, and having "Magic Points" to cast spells, huh? It will be interesting to see how that sort of thing plays out... If this is indeed the route you're travelling, I might be able to see what can't be done about coming up with a list of spells for each school.

Is the climate in the southern continent much like Africa? Because that's what I was thinking when I added some countries to the map.

Brown-Pesirith Empire
Yellow- Cinithin Confederacy
Blue- Kingdom of Lintu
Red- Kingdom of Klirt
Pink- Nlatsup empire

The Pesirith Empire would be the strongest of them, having access to the massive sea to the north. Much of their southern territory is jungle, rare beasts and slaves being traded often there. The empire's western territories contain small amounts of deserts. These deserts are The Pesirith Empire's only source of valueable metals besides trading for them. Due to the lack of metal, most armies of Pesirith rely on two things: massive numbers of light troops, and power magicians. These two go hand in hand, as many generals will gladly destroy a portion of their own troops for a magician to be able to destroy the enemy. Due to these ruthless tactics, few like it when the Pesirth Empire goes to war.

With the Pesirith Empire expanding further and further south, they have run into strong resistance in the jungles. The Cinithin Confederacy is a small country consisting of three cities. Each city is ruled by a king, although the kings swear to always help each other when the need arises. The Cithin Confederacy formed out of the need to halt Pesirith expansion in the area. The kings combined their armies and managed to inflict enough losses to drive back the Pesirith armies. But only time will tell if their rock-solid defenses will allow them to stop from getting conquered by the much larger countries in the area.

The Kingdom of Lintu is a very recently formed country. When the Pesirith Empire expanded towards the south, they easily conquered the fragile Lurin Empire. With this old empire broken, the Pesirith Empire built its cities on its ruins. But many people that used to live in the Lurin Empire caused unrest in this new region of the Pesirith Empire. Government officials eager to seize power for themselves sided with rebels and soon a civil war broke out. In the confusion Pesirith generals allied with Lurinian rebels managed to break away from the empire. Now they are focusing on rebuilding a lost empire in the jungles of the south. With many fruits and ivory to trade, this kingdom is quickly gaining more power through trade.

Klirt is a small kingdom bordering the massive lake to the south. Mainly keeping to themselves, they are a very primitive kingdom that veiw the giant lake as a god. Much of Klirt's economy revolves around fishing and the pearls found in the lake. Although they don't have much interest in fighting, rumors are sturring that the Pesirith Empire is looking to them to help bring down Lintu.

The Nlatsup Empire has been around for many ages. A very peaceful empire, its capital is surrounded by a massive wall of stone. Massive trees and vines entangle with their stonework, giving it superb beauty, and a strangly high amount of strength. By becoming one with nature, the Nlatsup Empire has been able to shut out the rest of the world. But as they thrive in isolation, the outside world is advancing, new weapons being developed that may one day breach its walls...

So, is this okay? If I can only create one country, I'll take the Pesirith Empire.

Great work! I'll add all those to the game, however I hope you don't mind if I move them around as I'll be constructing a new map shortly.

I encourage people to follow Ninja Dude's lead and come up with a few kingdoms so we can get started soon.

Edit:

put up the new map. Is there a reason its not showing up? Actually, do you guys prefer the revealed map or would you like an explorable one?

If this is a fresh-start, a shrouded map might be best. But yeah, I can't see the new map right now.

Climates and mountains might come in handy on the map to help us form our countries.

as with all of the other create your own empire neses ill go with the Monaudian empire

Monaudian empire
The Monaudian empire is a senatoriolly controlled state that focuses heavily on diplomacy and espionage. The Monaudians have a weak cavalry base but make up for it with increidbble Missle units and a firm average infantry base. their unique ubit is the advanced recurve bowmen.

maybe the map didnt upload properly?

I'd create the "Rachereb Kingdom" which is a constitutional monarchy kingdom of goblins! With other more powerful humanoids making up the ranks of knights and barons and so forth.

The Viarg Xhanti

A group of settled barbarian horseman. With incredible Light Calvary their weakness is their horses too weak for normal heavy calvary, who eventually became mounted Militia-armoured Men at Arms moving around to turn the tide in pitched battle.

Sehrhaesslich (aka The Black Tower) is a small country (a city-state, actually), with a single, lonely city atop a similarly lonely mountain. The city, in turn, is centered around a single tower, known as Sehrhaesslich, known by most of the world as The Black Tower for its color. The city-state is ruled by the Sehrhaesslich Bruderschaft, or The Brotherhood: the community of wizards residing and studying within the tower. The Sehrhaesslich Bruderschaft is, in turn, ruled by the Sehrschreckliche, the High Council of the Brotherhood.

The Black Tower began as a group of wizards trying to find a pace where they could study all kinds of magic without the interference of governments. Over time, ambitious members extended the power of Sehrhaesslich, creating cabals of Sehrhaesslich-loyal wizards throughout the world, influencing world events for the better or for the worse, depending on who was making up the Sehrschreckliche. Oftentimes benign and even good, as the filibustering among the High Council prevented any evil madman from taking control (and the individual members of said Council or even the whole Black Tower could depose anyone doing anything stupid).

The city surrounding the Tower was founded after the Brotherhood was attacked by armies from less-than-amiable kingdoms. The Tower, though magically more potent than anything else in the world, realized that it had to have its own standing army, as pure magic was not sufficient, especially if your enemies also used magic. In exchange for much freedom and strong and reasonable laws (think of OTL towns in the time of feudalism), men flocked to the city, connected to the outside world by roads and magical gates of teleportation.

The bureaucratic administration of the city-state is done mostly by non-Brotherhood-members. Outlying farms are manned by free farmers, supported by the Black Tower magically and militarily. The city itself is a center of science and culture, with mostly artisans and tradesmen from all over the world in the population. The economy is based mostly on trade, where high-quality goods from the city are exported into the outside world. The state is secure with food, though in times of crisis (which are rare, considering everything is enhanced by magic) food is imported from the outside world.

Every able-bodied man is part of the Sehrhaesslich militia, though there is a standing army of well-trained and well-armed-and-armored professional volunteers.

The Autocracy of Pefonu

Pefonu is an autocracy in the shadow of a range of mountains in the centre of Beru.

Ecology

The majority of the people live on the fertile plains surrounding the mountains. Unknown to the people, it is due to the fact that many of the mountains are in fact extinct volcanoes. Not that the people know this. They just think it's good luck.

Most of the land is in fact, wilderness, with dangerous wild creatures, which is good for heroes. If the wild monster problem is ever cleared up, it is very likely that there are many valuable natrual resources under the ground, like iron and coal.

Magic

Magic users are widespread. The people belive it is a gift from the gods. It is used for more or less everything: military, fieldwork, priestwork.

Magic is viewed as ordinary. Enchanted items are very common. There isn't a market for them, but they turn up anyway.

Politics

The structure is a a hereditary autocracy. This may sound like a monarchy, but the Autocrat isn't a king. Only the ruling god is King or Queen, depending on theological popularity. The currant Autocrat (proper title Rapafe) is a woman named Rabia.

Religion is a strong influence in politics. Popular issues are foreign relations. However, the stability is rapidly disintegrating. This is due to a war they are losing.

The area is very good personal freedoms. As such, scandals are very common.

Culture

Trade skills are highly valued. They are known for their art. Popular entertainment are art shows or museums. 'Scientists' (a closer translation would be alchemist) is the most respected profession.

Most discrimination is gender-based (towards males). Certain religious rituals are a major taboo. Black magic addiction is a major social ill.

Religion

Very matriarchal polytheism. The focus is self-improvement, or leader worship, depending on who you talk to. Worshiping takes place in joyous daily prayers in temples, or solemn individual meditation in temples, again depending on who one speaks to.

The asssiated art form are tile murals. Almost eveyone in the country believes this religion. Holidays are very often.

More on the religion at a later date.

Economy

The main export are wooden gadgets, like weather-predicting pinecones. Their main import are labourers. Their main resource timber/lumber. However, their trade is in a major deficiet.

So the economy is weak, but steadily improving. Wealth is fairly even, but with a wealth gap.

Military

The military is somewhat weak. They have decided that they are going to try to develop a flying machine, so they can dominate the skies. However, they are failing.

All the soldiers are volunteers, used mainly for conquest. Rank is elected by the public.

Population

Urban: 14%
Rural: 86%
Literacy Rate: 5%

Gender Ratio: 1.28 male(s)/female
Fertility Rate: 5.5 children/family
Life Expectancy: 44.1 years

cant wait tell this gets up and running
