Pre-Order Brave New World

I researched some comparison sites for the Dutch and this is the best deal I found:

€22,75 at Yourgamezone

And they note the release date as July 5th... it doesn't add up, but their reputation seems to be legit so... just putting it out there.
Added. And welcome to CFC, LorryDriverJr :)
If you have a creditcard and a civv-playing friend *, you can order two copies of BNW @ amazon.co.uk, which will be even cheaper (2x £16 or 2x €19.50). We are Dutch, so we are culturally indebted to be on the lookout for the best deal :p

* You would need to order two copies at once to be eligible for free super saver delivery. With shipping costs, it won't be as interesting.

@Mercade: could you update the first post with this new significantly lower Amazon.co.uk price? I mentioned it in an earlier post, but you seem to have missed it :)
I did see it earlier, but when I followed the link it gave me the old price still... Now it gives me the GBP 16, so updated. It doesn't beat the GMG deal for download, but it's surely the cheapest deal I've seen so far for physical media if you don't pay too much extra to ship it to continental Europe.

Is there any sort of pre-download necessary? I want to be able to play it exactly when its available.

You have to have pre-ordered on steam for that. In that case it will automatically download the files required before the game goes live. If you want a boxed version of the game, you're going to have to wait and install after you put in the code on steam.

And if you pre-ordered on GMG, they should email you a Steam key slightly before release.

I see here in Australia pre order on Steam is costing approx $45 USD with release date of 11 July. A tad more expensive than first reported.
Yes, let's not have the discussion about Australian software pricing again. Fortunately through e.g. GMG you can get it for approx USD 20 including discounts.

I wasn't suggesting we have a discussion about software pricing anywhere.

I was simply pointing out that it was slightly more expensive on Steam here than the prices of $40 you gave in post #1.

Even when buying from Australia? Wouldn't that require a proxy or some sort of other bypassing mechanism that could possibly violate their ToS?

Fair enough, Cicerosaurus, and you're right. I added a note saying the price is USD 44.99 from Australia and New Zealand, as well as the local prices for Russia, Brazil and Japan.

Not necessarily. A shop will serve you a price based on your location. If it doesn't have a specific price for your country, it'll serve you a default price. From previous posts I gather that GMG serves Australians with the standard US price, not the "special" Australian price. For me, when in Paris it served me a price in GBP for some odd reason, so I just took that.

I pre-ordered through Steam... I wasn't terribly excited about this one but Civ V has turned out to be a fairly decent game over the last few years. And I remember Civ IV getting better with each expansion. So Sid get's my money again.

I would say it doesn't matter whether you pay the full price on steam or use a cheaper offer from another distibutor. Firaxis will get the same amount of money.
Therefore, by buying on steam, you just make steam's pocket full, not firaxis'... ;)

Presumably everyone already has the basic Civ V. But if you don't (or know someone who wants to give the game a try), GMG is having a 6 hour sale (yeah, 6 hours) where the basic Civ V is 75% off (for a total of $7.49), and you can still get the $2 referral credit if you follow the instructions in my post (a few posts back).

This sale lasts until 21:00 UTC on Tuesday, July 2nd (which is 5 P.M. Eastern, 4 P.M. Central, 2 P.M. Pacific).

And if you play other games available on GMG, you should check every 6 hours to see what the new deal is. (No clue whether or not BNW or any of the DLC will be one sale this way).

FYI, the past couple of days, Green Man Gaming has been having a different mini-sale every 6 hours for 6 days. If you missed any of the deals, they are having an encore to give you one last chance (for 30 hours) to get any of those deals (until Monday, July 8th, at 16:00 UTC, which is Noon Eastern, 11 AM Central, 9 AM Pacific).

You can view the different deals (covers several dozen games which are each 50-75% off) here:

http://www.greenmangaming.com/hot-deals/

Just flip through the 6 different pages (one for each day).

Regarding Civilization, you can buy the basic game for $7.49 (75% off) and G&K for the same amount ($7.49, which is 75% off) here:

http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/strategy/sid-meiers-civilization-v/

http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/strategy/sid-meiers-civilization-v-gods-kings/

So for someone who is new to Civ V or missed the last expansion, now is a perfect time to catch up in preparation for Brave New World.

And finally, on top of the 50-75% off, if you are new to Green Man Gaming, you can use a referral code to get $2 of credit after you make your first person:

In addition, if you are new to GMG and don't have an account yet, you can also use the "Friend Referral" mechanism to get $2 credit (for you and the referrer each) by creating a new account.

If you do not currently have an account with Green Man Gaming, you can:

1. Enter the link < http://www.greenmangaming.com/?gmgr=liligaqa >

That one is the link for me (you can use someone else's if you really want). If you use the link, it will just take you to the main page and doesn't *appear* to do anything. (But it creates a temporary cookie that only works if you immediately create an account).

2. You then create an account (apparently it doesn't work if you already have an existing account) with Green Man Gaming with the "Log In / Register" option.

3. Add whatever you want into your cart.

4. After you check out, you should end up with a credit balance of $2 (for using the Refer-a-Friend promotion).

I bought from GMG the first time last year with G&K, and the referral process helped accrue a small amount of credit that I just used to help buy BNW (and those who used the referral got the same amount of credit). Let me know if you have any questions. :king:

I bought BNW and steam then downloaded a file that was somewhere between 100-200 MB in size and was labelled with a Civ icon. In addition a 250 or so KB file was downloaded as some sort of Civ tool.

Was this file BNW? Will I be ready to play BNW upon release now?

Thanks.

Welcome to CivFanatics. I assume you already have Civ 5 itself? If you bought BNW through Steam, then it will automatically become available for you when it releases. If you bought it through another vendor, then you'll have to enter your steam code into steam to unlock it. Btw, steam itself is free. No need to buy it.

I just preordered it at the gamingdragon site, with a voucher it was an additional 5% off for a total of 19.91, compared to 26.99 on steam

:)

You can trade your (single) copy of BNW to a friend and you'll be able to keep half the fun!

Should I buy it from Steam or get a physical box copy?
I'm not sure.

Unless you REALLY want a physical copy of it for some sentimental reason, there is no reason NOT to simply buy it on Steam. Your disc is uselss without Steam anyway. Another reason might be if you found some epic deal in a retail store somewhere, but seeing as you're in Canada: lol no way.

Pysical copies are just a key to unlock your steam copy.
