pre-SKNES

Spoiler Map as of now :
MfxUv.png

There is the map; tell me if you want your country changed. (It will look nicer with NPCs to fill it up, trust me.)

Notes:
-Omega, whoever made this map forgot to put the Dnieper on it, so I had to take some guesses on the location of Kyiv. Your nation will look better when there are NPCs.
-Boundless is not on the map, I have no info from her other than her starting location.
-If you started out Tribal, you will have a lot more land. Poland will definitely be larger.
-Byzantines and Papal States are not on the map; they will be added last.

Gaah, I forgot about joining this when the server went down. :cringe:

I'll be joining as the same country as in the Beta version, Epirus. My info is here:

Spoiler :
The Despotate of Epir

Capital: Ioannina

Location: Here (in green)

Government: Despotic Monarchy

Color: Light Green

Description and History: The Despotate of Epir is a splinter state which broke off Rome (we are assuming that unified Rome and not just Western Rome collapsed here, right?) during its fall. It had grown prosperous due to Roman trade, and although trade has sunk and Epir has become much poorer than before, Epir is seeking to be a new centre of trade routes once again. The rulers and people of Epir have long been worshipping the Hellenic religion, and do not wish to change this to any upstart religion.

Psst: I should be in the OP, I participated in the Beta, too.

The Frankish Empire should definitely have alot more land to the south

Kingdom of Sicily gets an a-OK from me, although that one jut on uncolored land on the island is gonna be bugging me quite a bit. Unless maybe Messina, or whatever it is, is in rebellion or something. :p

I'll add more for the final map. I am leaving space in case anyone else joins in that region.

I was too lazy to color in that last 1 pixel :p

Can I join with the Vandalic Kingdom of Carthage?

Nation name/User name: Vandalic Kingdom of Carthage (Grandkhan)
Color: Sienna
Starting location: North African part of this, as well as Sardinia. Capital is at Carthage
Government and religion: Despotic Monarchy, Sunni Islam
History: The barbarian tribe known as the Vandals entered the Roman Empire in the early 400s, pillaging and looting their way into Spain, where they remained fighting the Romans for some time. However, in 429, under the powerful and enigmatic warlord Geiseric, they sailed across the Mediterranean into Africa. Geiseric conquered Numidia and the city of Carthage, which he named his capital, forcing the Romans to acknowledge his suzerainty over these areas. However, seeing the weakness of Rome, he then built up a powerful fleet and began raiding the mediterranean. The Vandals and their Alanic allies conquered Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, the Baleares, while raiding much of mainland Italy. They then tried their hand, like all self-respecting barbarian tribes, at sacking Rome, burning it in 455 AD.

However, after Geiseric's death in 477, his incompetent and aggressive son Huneric took power. His reign began the decline of the Kingdom of the Vandals and Alans, as region upon region was lost to the Romans, until only Sardinia and the North African territories remained under Vandalic control. They then lost even more land during the Islamic Conquest of Africa in 670, when all of Vandal Africa was lost to the Caliphate. The Vandal kings fled to Sardinia, which they defended against all comers for almost a 100 years, while using their impressive fleet to raid and pillage the Western Mediterranean. However, in 730 AD, the lure presented by the collapse of the Caliphate proved too much to endure, and the young King of the Vandals, Huneric IV, sailed back to Africa to lay siege to Carthage. It fell, and Huneric then conquered the rest of the old Vandalic Kingdom in Africa from the warlords in the Islamic province of Ifriqiya. To secure his power, Huneric and the Vandal court all converted to Sunni Islam, which may prove difficult when they return to Europe. This damaged his standing back in Africa however, and midway through his attempted conquest of Sicily from the Romans, he was forced to return home to put down a rebellion by the Aryan Christian minority in Africa.

Now restored to the Throne of the Vandals in Africa, Huneric now plans to restore the Kingdom of the Vandals in Europe as well, and pillage and conquer the Mediterranean like the Vandals of Old.

Switching from Palestine to Al-Andalus:

Nation name: Emirate of Cordoba

Color: Yellow

Capitol: Cordoba

Starting location: Al-Andalus (S. Spain)

Government: Despotic Monarchy

Religion: Sunni Islam

History: After many years of harsh rule by the Umayyad Caliphate, the Berbers of Ifriqiya decided to revolt, and after two unsuccessful attempts, the Berbers successfully ousted the Umayyads from Ifriqiya and Al-Andalus, while the Ummayads were distracted by the Abbasids in the East. Once the Abbasids had overthrown the Umayyads, the Berber kingdoms tried to reach an understanding with the Abbasids about their independence, but the Abbasids refused to recognize Berber independence. Out of spite, the Berber king of Al-Andalus invited the remnants of the Ummayad royal family to live in Al-Andalus. This was a sever mistake, as the Ummayads had a much more legitimate claim to rule Al-Andalus than the Berbers, since they were the sons or grandson of Caliphs. In 750, the exiled Umayyad prince Abd al-Rahman I led a revolt against the Berbers of Al-Andalus. He was supported by the many disenfranchised local lords of Al-Andalus, who wanted to bring back the reign of the Caliphs. After defeating the Berbers, al-Rahman I founded the Emirate of Cordoba, centered around the important city of Cordoba, and gave himself the title of Emir.

Its momo1000 v.s. Terrance888, mano v mano.

Then, of course, the "Must be Bigger Kingdom" of franks will backstab me, cause me to lose, then take the credit of defeating the weakened Cordoban moors.

Former Umayyad revolter states FTW! :D

This Thread is well worth a read. Very sadly the pictures are missing now (2007 NES)

Introduction

The NES is an alternate historical NES. History has diverged in the middle of the 1st Century BC (depending on the nation), and the NES begins in the year 20 AD.

The first major change occurred in 31 BC, when a major storm destroyed most of the navy of the Roman Empire under Augustus. Soon after Grand Aegyptus, under Mark Antony, defeats the rest of Augustus's navy at the battle of Actium. Mark Antony's soldiers receive much-needed supplies and are able to break through Octavian's fortifications one month later, destroying his army in a costly battle. This leads to independence of Grand Aegyptus under Mark Antony, as Augustus is unable to defeat Antony's navy.

A major revolt takes place in Numidia Superior, which soon spreads to Numidia Inferior, Africa, and Mauretania in 8 AD. The revolting territory of Imperial Numidia was defended from attack by Augustus when Mark Antony used his large navy to, yet again, destroy the Roman navy and stop them from landing troops in Africa.

The Roman army in the north is mostly destroyed at the battle of Teutoburg Forest in 14 AD. A major revolt is started in Belgica by the governor of Belgica. After another Roman defeat at the Battle of Hochberg (17 AD), the Belgians went on to conquer parts of northern Gallia, which gladly joined the new nation of Belgica-Gallia.

The Catuvellauni of Britain have expanded their land holdings signifigantly over the course of the last 50 years BC until they reached their current size. Ordovices combined with several other nearby nations to form a new tribal confederacy. The Picts have built their first city, well fortified in the mountains of northern Britain.

The Cherusci tribe of Germania has held together despite strong inner turmoil after the Battle of Teutoburg Forest. The Gotones crossed into eastern Germania in the middle of the first century BC. The Marcomanni, Quadi, and Cimbri have all expanded their previous land holdings but are all struggling from conflicts with surrounding Germanic tribes.

Dacia has greatly expanded the infrastructure in and between their cities, a process which has improved their population and economy. The Scythians have conquered the Greek city of Olbia, making it their capital, and protected it against foreign attackers.

Galatia and Cappadocia, though greatly influenced by Grand Aegyptus and Parthia, are independent nations (at least for now). Armenia has kept independent from Parthia. Parthia has kept their dynasty in absolute power and not allowed themselves to waver in the face of political conflicts. Judea, controlled by King Herod, was passed down to his only son. This unified Judea, which was friendly to Grand Aegyptus, has rebelled late in 19 AD, and may face an invasion. A man named Jesus has also begun his teaching in Judea, preaching a new covenant with God.

Lastly, the nations of Meroe and Aksum have remained as they did historically, Aksum as a commercial powerhouse, and Meroe a Nubian nation caught between Grand Aegyptus and Aksum.

OK, I'll read that. I'll put you down as being Catavalu, confirm?

I won't be able to do much this week, in fact I won't really be online much the rest of the week, but I'll make stats this weekend, and plan to launch the game thread sometime next week.

I bet Abaddon showed you that thread, didn't he, Boundless .. ;)
