Pre-Thread For A Civ IV S&T Project

Again, we can switch over to something lighter, such as Neoteric World, which has Revolutions and many other interesting bits to it, as well as letting us play something like a Giant Map, just one step down from Gigantic.

Proposed ideas for the map itself? What shape and all.

I would rather play an unmodded game (vanilla BtS) so we all start from the same baseline.

Turkey would be cool for me.
I wouldn't really bother trying it if it was on a giant earth map though, the mod and the mapsize will just make it way too unstable.

You can get your game on if you want, but you can also play test and see if you like it.

Readieness will not be an issue right now, I am thinking that a month or so would be a good starting time, though earlier is also good.

Hey! You could've at least posted the link on the SG before, anyway, i want my Germany

IMO, starting next week is good, also if we're playing GEM i need to suggest some 13 players or so spread over the world...either all in the old world or with some filling every continent and region.

Now on Neoteric RFC Earth, still need to spread over the world, but probably only the old world is fine (remove the natives?)

Anyway, if we're to make the stories, might as well remember the Roleplaying bit
So, you get to play GM + country and throw some random things at us? (remember to roll a die, always!)

And i think we still need the following players :
Spain
Russia
Japan
Vikings
Ottomans
Persians

Yeah, i think we're lacking these (important) countries...

Yeah, i agree with you, Neoteric + RFC Earth sounds fine for me...

Everybody has their first pick that does not interfere with someone else's pick that they had selected before. Currently, it seems that the Earth type map is more to everyone's liking, unless other people have a beef with that.

I'm going to have to make the case for a randomly generated map.
Feel free to dispute my reasoning:

1) The Earth18/34 maps are characteristically unbalanced in terms of resource
distribution and food positive city spots.
The bias inevitably leans towards Europe & China/Japan.

2) Since this is an RP oriented MP game, the unknown factor of a randomly
generated map would help the RP factor (by virtue of not knowing beforehand
where everything is, thus discouraging metagaming).

3) Limits rushing.

I would prefer an Archipelago map script but anything else is fine with me too.

In the interest of becoming the devil's advocate here, I believe that Dawn might have a good idea there. If we do not do a Earth centric map, what map script is the most preferred?

If we don't play Earth, I'd like to play Terra . It's more balanced, for certain.
Also, do you know Legends of Revolution? I personally prefer it a lot more than Neotheric World.

Anyway, about the map, yeah, TD has a solid point there...On a random map i would suggest either Terra (Everyone on Old World), Earth2 (old world again) or tectonics, tough the later has the problem of usually having some separate continents with players and one for colonization...

I'll definitely have to check in on Legends of Revolution here in a little bit, and the map scripts (I have never played Terra or Earth 2, though I have played Tectonics and Fractal), so I'll check those out when I have the time.

Let's here from everyone else already participating in the next two days from now, and let's see what they think about all of this; about the mod and the map script.

Once everyone else has made their decision, we can set the most optimal date for this to be done; I'm thinking during a lull in Spring Break would be nice, or perhaps afterwards into the early part of May.
