Well I'm still working on the update, so technically they aren't holding you back. :p

You will all find this turn to result in more acquisitions. That's all I'm sayin'.

Well dosen't that just sound interesting? Ladies and Gents, I give you:

Wizard Name: Aeolus Hippotades, The Merchant

PZO1116-PreviewMonster3.jpg

-An Aiolian Royal Guard riding his Tpehepe trained steed-
Race: Halfling

Spoiler :
Halflings are a very overlooked race in Ethereal. They are small in size, and some are a bit fat. Yet they are resilient creatures and capable of traveling long distances. Their size can often be their advantage, as well, coming in handy in the most unexpected of situations. Halflings typically establish spread out, rural communities located on hillsides or long valleys. Even their cities employ this planning. There are not many tall structures in the habitat of a Halfling.

Citadel: Aiolia, built near the ruins of the Burning Tower

Government: Absolute Monarchy

Spellbook:
Spoiler :

-Cloak of Oedipus-
Type- Enchant
*Range- 300 km- 90 Mana
Hit- Small Burst 100 Mana
Power- Refined 200 Mana
Sustainability- Sustainable
Total Cost: 390

-The Cloak of Oedipus manipulates space and time, taking its targets slightly out of step with the line of time. This either causes the target to move much slower, or slightly quicker relative to the of reality of the world. An example would be allowing a group of Halfling Adventurers a greater traveling speed to escape from an ambush, or slowing down an attacking monster, so it would be easier for my Tpehepes to put it in chains.

*note* As a counter to the game breaking possibilities here, targets of the spell still think at the speed of the real world. This means that if I say, cast it on the Halfling Adventurers running away from the ambush to a level of twice the speed of normal time, they would have to use all of their mental ability running away, and would be much more likely to trip over a log or become lost.-

Mana (per turn / crystals): 50/turn 100 Stored
Gold (per turn / coffers): 200 gold.
Castles: 0
Cities: 0

Units:
Spoiler :

Halfling Adventurers (Race Unit)
Spoiler :
5 adventurers
Veteran (8)
Leather (2)
Short Swords (2)
Netheryl (20)
32 gold to train, 16 to maintain

Halfling Adventurers Exist to Scout, Raid, Spy, and Sneak for the Crown of Aiolia (and Assassinate , if necessary). However, like any group of Adventurers, they really strive for Gold and Glory.

Aiolian Tpehepes
Spoiler :
5-50 Tpehepes
Veteran (8)
Netheryl (resist magic) Armor: (20)
Staves (2)
Skilled Magic (20/20)
50 Gold/ 20 Mana to Train
25 Gold/10 Mana to Maintain

Tpehepes are a versatile unit who exist to capture, control, train, and fight alongside beasts and monsters. They also can act as support units if their "familiars" have been trained to work as such.

Aiolian Archers
Spoiler :
100 Archers
Veteran (8)
Longbow (8)
Pack Horses (4)
20 Gold to Train
10 Gold to Maintain

Light bow troops, designed for instant defense and support purposes. Not ment to be in the forefront of any battle.

Aiolian Royal Guards
Spoiler :
100 Guards
Elite (16)
Swords (8)
Longbow (8)
Shield (2)
Heavy Plate (16)
Netheryl (20)
Flying Combatant(varied) (32)
Weak Magic (8/8)
110 Gold / 8 Mana to Train
55 Gold / 4 Mana to Upkeep

Impossibly expensive, yet invaluably skilled, Royal Guards represent the pentacle of Halfling abilities. The combination of elite training and endurance, with flying combatants typically captured and trained by Tpehepes, and magical abilities, gives the royal guards unmatched stamina. The Netheryl plate and defensive spells assures that only the most powerful mages can even begin to hinder the Guards in battle.

Royal Guards can stop hordes of rampaging barbarians butt cold, match powerful arch-mages blow for blow, and defend their king from any harm.

Background:
Spoiler :
The structure of Ethereal, with its feudal society and the general isolation of cities and towns from even its closest neighbors, leaves huge openings for ambitious merchants. Men who can brave the hordes of barbarians, monsters and bandits with wagon loads of goods have the ability to become richer than any king. Aeolus was one of those merchants. From his humble beginnings as an adventurer, Aeolus was a name known in many a tavern, and mentions of his huge wealth eventually reached royal, and magical ears. The rate of assaults upon the massive horde of gold Aeolus had saved began to increase. To protect his wealth, Aeolus ordered a citadel built, with a massive vault as its heart, and established himself as king of the surrounding land. Hopefully, his cleverness and magical skill will help him survive to keep his money, in a vicious world ruled by men much advanced in magical skill.

Welcome to the forum, Aiolos. The message above is approved!

And folks - he will be where the Burning Tower is currently located. Ironic considering Ismordar's realm was supposed to be a crusade, of all things.

I dont suppose I could "discover" Ismordar's gold horde so I could issue orders this turn? Please found the trade post of Caszablanka to the... west, on the fork of the Sul River.

That'll be a city of 20,000 - so not really a trade post. :D But I will put that on the update's map.

You can do orders this turn. I'll push you with a head start of sorts. You begin with 250 gold in your coffers and 120 mana crystals. You will be generating 100 mana per turn (4 mana nodes, just as the Burning Tower generated before it's collapse).

So you can spend the 100 mana per turn - what you don't spend, divide in half, and it becomes crystals (round down). Crystals can also be spent as mana, as well. You can also spend 250 gold this turn - and you will generate 80 from your city (so a total of 330 gold for you to spend in your orders to me).

The story behind Ismordar is that he was murdered by one of his servants, and the realm was deserted. You can roleplay that your extra 50 gold I am giving you was plundered from the old Orcish tower.

@nutranurse: In almost every kung fu movie I have ever seen, the kung fu underdog has to fight a massive, muscular foreigner. Just sayin'.

Riight. Well, I am going to sleep on it tonight, and figure out how I want to play this... Then tomorrow ;) RP begins. Just realized I was planning to pave 800 miles of roads :D on the first turn no less.

That little boy has no muscle!

@Terrance
Yes, I'm the one who is holding these people back. I have rather busy weekends, so I'm glad that update ETA is on wednesday not on sunday.

OOC: there's a lot of info to go through. 5? pages.

Could someone explain me how a halflling can draw a longbow?
I mean, these weapons are 5 or 6 feet long, so how could a halfling use one? Just the length of the arrow would be problematic for pulling?
Even with asymmetric handle as in Japanese bows, the shaft length is limited by the arms length.
(cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yumi for instance - even a japanese longbow for a 1m halfling would be no longer than 1.2m in comparison)
May I suggest the bows are actually short composite bows (same effect stat-wise)? I always thought composite bows were not given the respect due to them, all that only because Welsh and English longbowmen performed well in the 100 year war. On the other hand, Mongols conquered the largest empire ever with composite bows.

I'm okay with that.

As am I.. Would composite bows hold up in the mountainous weather? I understand they need to be dry to function properly

Perhaps you could coat them with some sort of weatherproof oil from a tree native to your region, or even argue that the way your Halflings do woodwork allows the bow to withstand harsher temperatures.

Suggestion: Lower the number of Guards and Mages per unit. Since they are Elite units of your army, lower numbers will concentrate their oranges like boiling wine into brandy.

I welcome a halfling brother into this world!
