PreSLNES I: Masters of Ethereal

Haha. Yeah. I keep 1 layer per name, actually, because it comes in handy if I need to move or rename the name. It doesn't slow my computer down or anything, so it is purely just for my convenience (if I merged those layers, it'd be as simple as cutting and re-typing... but since my computer has no problem handling tons of text layers, it doesn't really matter).

Other than that, I have 1 layer for each geographic feature, each different type of settlement, every player's border, the fog, the textures, mana nodes, roads, and everything else you can think of. The advantage of doing so is the ease in deleting or adding. I also have a lot of base layers which are extremely useful in updating the map. Updating the map is a fairly quick process, actually.
Yes, 1 layer per name makes sense, but they shouldn't be very heavy in memory (unless you resized them to the size of the map, and probably not much even in that case).
I agree that keeping them separate is quite handy. This must be a lot of names indeed considering cities and fort numbers were in the 20-30 range already.
Still, I think the visible portion of the map may not grow that much in terms of weight. Once it's no longer in the dark, I expect the map to be about 2 or 3 times the current weight once compressed, so you'd still have enough room to upload it on imageshack.

@LDi: The reason they weigh so much is that each one has a layer style to make it look puuurrrty.

@Luckymoose: Welcome! It is exciting to see a new kind of Beastman. Here is some info on how the Beastmen became separated from the Gnolls. It is vague, but intentionally so for any gaps to be filled over time. Perhaps the Kenku are a dormant species of Beastman, emerging now because of the presence of your Wizard.

Halfway at this point. There isn't much to write about around the Southwest, and there is tons to write about involving the Norclove (as usual). :D But part of that is because Terrance had to NPC himself this turn, and both you and erez are fresh off of victories (referring to last turn here).

wuahaahaa, the norclove is the center of the world once again!! Now i am even more impatient :) there will be blood

OOC: BTW Starlife I'm going to be away from this Saturday to next Sunday on a gliding scholarship and thus won't be able to access the internet as its a residential course and any downtime I have will be spent revising gliding or physics as I have a physic exam on the Monday. Just a heads-up that, if the update is not up before Saturday, NCPing might be required.

It'll be up shortly. Maybe tonight (if the storms aren't very severe), definitely tomorrow. Anyway, thanks for letting me know Vert.

its awesome that you have a gliding scholarship... gliding for fuque's sake.

The wonders of the UK. There is a CCF contingent at my school and I'm in the RAF section so each year a handful of lucky people get to go on gliding scholarships. Even better a mate got on the same course.

from the wiki Vert linked to said:
The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is a Ministry of Defence sponsored youth organisation in the United Kingdom. Its aim is to "provide a disciplined organisation in a school so that pupils may develop powers of leadership by means of training to promote the qualities of responsibility, self reliance, resourcefulness, endurance and perseverance".

I'd want you and your gliding abilities on my side in the event of a post-apocalyptic scenario and/or zombie invasion. On another note, you having to work on gliding and physics around the same time is awfully morbid to me for some reason.

Massive storms went through here yesterday. Power recently came back on.

Even better its the mechanics side of the course so resolving horizontal and vertical vectors, SUVAT equations, relative velocities, working out trajectories etc. all feature. Bizarrely so does some quantum theory and wave theory. So I'll be sitting in a glider with the correct equations buzzing around in my head to work out exactly how long it would take and where it would crash into the ground if something were to go horribly wrong!:D They are perfectly safe though and if the weather is bad for your sole flight they ghost you, which means you go up with a more seasoned pilot but he will only interfere when things start to go really wrong.

That's that.

To make stats easier, you can do what erez and some others do: Post what your profile will look like after your orders have been implemented (what you think it will look like).

Let me know if there are errors.

And sorry for the delay.
