-Prethread- NCNESIOT: Blackened Skies

Presently, there's no mechanism for showing espionage capability. Our approach will be to interact with the players via PM on a case-by-case basis.

Tobiisagoodboy wins the "War Were Declared" award for first official public declaration of war in the game. Hooray!

Link to video.

Additionally, a quick reminder that the orders deadline is Thursday, March 3rd. I know you guys hate excuses, and I know they're older than cheese, but I'm defending my thesis next month so it's very possible that the order schedule could become strained over the next four weeks. I give you my word that I will do everything in my power to keep this from causing a delay of game.

Also, Nuke's out of town for a little bit to follow, so direct all NPC diplomacy to me in the meantime.

Whats up with the relationship between Greece and Russia? Why does Russia have so much influence there? I read the Greek background and it didn't mention anything. Can anyone explain this?

Let your confusion be IC. I will not disclose the nature of their alleged cooperation OOC.*

*Even though by saying this I am implying a lot, there's not a lot of ways to respond to someone's confusion post without twirling your mustache and going "A mystery, isn't it?!?!"

Isn't that basically OTL? I hadn't assumed anything weird about it, since I was under the impression that Imperial Russia was always quite fond of Greece historically, partially for religious reasons

Greeks too were always fond of Russia (even now most Greeks have a positive view of Russia and a negative of US). As for in-game, it is always useful to have an ally in the Mediterranean when you have no Mediterranean ports yourself. And I am insisting on them getting Turkish Macedonia for prestige reasons mainly, not for Greece itself.

Announcement

Several players have inquired about espionage capability. In thinking about how Nuke and I will handle it, I have determined the system we will use:

For conducting espionage against other countries (offensive espionage actions, i.e. spying on their strategic deployments, fomenting rebellion/negative propaganda, etc), use the Base Cost of the target country as though it were your own for the purpose of calculating project costs. Furthermore, the efficacy of your espionage actions will be determined by your own Action Potential - as with all actions - and the target country's Action Potential, which can be considered as a sort of "defense" stat against enemy espionage. Most of the time, espionage will be handled on a case-to-case basis; however, use these factors to help influence your decision making, as they are the first factors we will consider.

Please don't think about this too hard. These numbers exist to make our lives easier, not make them tedious...er. More tedious? Eh.

This is not official NCNESIOT business, but I thought I'd announce it here anyway because I want people to pay attention to me: I am defending my master's thesis today! Wish me luck guys! And not just because me passing this means I can work on this game more!

Good luck, sir. Defend it like nobody's watching.

Good luck Crezth.

Good luck.

I'm pleased that you've finally got "Capitalism, patriarchialist neodialectic theory and Marxism" (CPN. TIM) to press!

I expect that the defence is over already, but good luck nevertheless. :P

I did it! Yay me! :3

yay! :3

Thanks for the great game, but I need to drop this.
