 No. No no no. I'm glad to see your creativity, but please read the backdrop story for this NES before writing stories like that. Your story doesn't fit in one bit. There are no aliens, there are no factions that controlled the universe, there have been no major faction wars. The galaxy pre-scourge was fairly peaceful (on the surface), and ultimately extremely human. It was corporate space, with true factions (like in this NES) only really rising after the scourge, when the old playing field was completely levelled.

In theory your story could have taken place way before humans colonized the galaxy, but then it falls on the fact that I wouldn't let you play a non-human faction.

Also my comment about losing your fleet was not to say that you should explain it, what I meant was that the fleet would have been taken by the scourge, much like everything else in the galaxy.

Sorry to kill your story like this, but please read the setting first.

I've updated the rules a bit after the suggestions I've gotten, please go back and read and comment. Changes:
 • Added a section on systems, with stability and improvements, to the first rules post.
 • Changed the ship list, including the Death Star.
 • Added the ability for factions to have UUs.

Ahhh many apologizies, it was late at night and I had just gotten off of work when I read it. Again sorry. I will write a different story over that one. :crazyeye: I reread it again and saw what I did wrong, again I apologize and will try my best to keep up.

Can we create our own unique ship now or do we need to wait for the appropiate tech level to pass first?

Shuurai Heavy Industries [襲来重工業, Shuurai Jūkōgyō] (Shuurai, SHI)
Leader: Chief Executive Officer Tsukuda Renji / Symphony D.
Home system: Epsilon Eridani - 4 Warpgates
Attributes: Industrious (Reduction of All Unit Manufacturing Costs) / Brilliant Research (Reduction of All Research Costs) / Corporate State (Limited Loyalty or Morality, High Greed, Generally Disliked By Outsiders, so on)
Production: 40 (0 banked)
Trade: None
Travel speed: 1 gate/turn
Colonized systems:
- Epsilon Eridani 40/[MPC] ([R-levels])
Army and Fleet deployment:
- Epsilon Eridani: 1000 infantry, 4 Scouts, 120 Fighters
Researched technologies: None
Description: With the expansive resources under the control of megacorporations, it was inevitable one of them at least would survive even a massive calamity such as that of the Scourge. Shuurai, a weapons manufacturing titan based upon the archipelagic terrestrial core world of Epsilon Eridani Prime, did precisely that, aided by vast quantities of military hardware within its warehouses and the means to manufacture more. It has since extended its control over the rest of the system, and with the new commercial void which has opened, aims for the “acquisition” of yet more “strategic resources.”

OOC: I would like explicit percentages inserted into my traits (I was thinking in the ballpark of 15 - 25% since my penalty is being the big evil megacorp). And yes, the real Epsilon Eridani. I expect Sol and other assorted stars to be nearby too.

Also, I’d suggest changing the Command Carrier to 50 Corvettes instead of 10 Frigates, since you’ve included them (and why carry something which is self-mobile between gates?), and changing Supercruiser to Dreadnought. Otherwise the Ship List looks pretty good now.

@germanicus12: Much better story! Remember to copy that over to the main thread once I start the game. Do you want to update your background for the template as well?

Regarding UU ships, you can decide at any point what kind of ship you want (once the game has started, this is still preview material after all). Generally it will be slightly better at some particular thing, or do something original that the other factions hadn't thought of. Depending on what you want, you may be able to build your UUs from the start, or I may tell you that you need to learn about such and such first.

@TerrisH: I changed your starting tech towards the Medicine branch (Bioconstruction has to do with construction of bio-systems or bio-materials), and gave you a bit more than you asked for. Just a starting tech isn't worth very much in the long run, or in the short run even. Hope you don't mind. ;)

@Symphony D.: Command Carrier updated, that was a mere oversight on my part. Dreadnought is a good name too, I thought about a name there for a while but couldn't come up with anything, I blame it was late night...

@Lord Iggy: If you wait too long I'm afraid the train will leave, as I won't accept new factions once the game starts. I'm sure this NES won't take that much time early on... ;)

5 templates up now, looking good I must say. 3 more have signed up, but there could still be a good deal more who are thinking about it (a lot more answered the poll after all). Still missing Dis, Kal'thzar, alex and Silver Steak and from Erik's game, the first two have answered the poll. Come on and join the fun!

The rules seem to have passed scrutiny without too much hassle, and if there are no more complaints it shouldn't be too long until we start for real. :)

I think I will make some minor adjustments to my background, as well as added some new stuff to make it more realistic.....

The Furians were all but wiped out and forgotten by history during the scourge. But in reality they escaped and hid out underground. They were the most feared military unit in the galaxy, supported by UPS, United Pacific States, they ruled their system with an iron fist. The workers and citizens rarely broke the law and the Fury system immediatly became the safest place in the Universe. Until the scourge that is...... Now they have come out to a shattered system and now hope to rebuild the system again and rule with an Iron fist again, as they love to do that.

I will PM you my design for my UU so you can see for yourself and tell me what you think and want to do with money part. How much and the like. Also with Tech.

@Global Nexus: Come right in, the door is open. Glad to have you join! :) For all other prospective joiners, the deadline for joining will be the same as the deadline for first orders, so there's still time. Come come! :)

@germanicus12: Great, I'll switch that for your background.

So we are joining now?

@Sheep: The sooner the better. :)

I'm expecting to put the main thread up very soon now, maybe even tonight. The only thing outstanding now is the map, which is coming along nicely now that I have a rough estimate of number of players (I do expect a late joiner or two). I want everything complete before I put that thread up. First deadline will probably be Friday give or take a few.

Update: The map is close to complete. Structure is all there (stars and gates), ~70% of the star systems have names, starting systems and FOWs are in place for the factions who have been submitted. Still missing a few names for systems, and a few starting positions.

I will put up the main thread tomorrow after I've looked through all the material one last time. It would please me to no end if I could get a few more factions until then, anyone who does submit one before the main thread goes up will get a mention in Update Zero, which I will post with the thread. So put that creativity to work tonight! (and remember I'm GMT +1, so my tomorrow is a bit earlier than you Americans (and for Sheep it's tomorrow already ;)))

Yeah you guys really need to stop living in the past....

Errr, hopefully this works. If anything doesn't work, tell me.

Colonial Federation of Sezuren (Colonials)
Leader: Prime Minister Alesia Maradoth / Global Nexus
Home system: Sezuren - 3 warpgates
Attributes: Imperialistic Drive (strong colony stability)
Production: 40 (0 banked)
Trade: None
Travel speed: 1 gate/turn
Colonized systems:
- Sezuren 40/[MPC] ([R-levels])
Army and Fleet deployment:
- Sezuren: 1000 infantry, 3 Scouts, 140 Fighters
Researched Technologies: None
Description: When the Sezuren system saw its first colonies erected, the men and women who founded them believed it was the beginning of a wonderful new life. Sezuren was the target of a very large, very expensive colonization project. It was supposed to be the future: bringing millions, nay billions to the system and developing the central planet completely within a year. This was how future colonial projects were supposed to be! Eight months later, the Scourge hit.

When all was said and done, however, the colonists did not all die. In fact, they survived despite the losses that occurred. By what seems to be nothing more than a stroke of luck, the colonists largely survived the Scourge! Now the colonists of Sezuren have their infrastructure back up and running, even if it is a bit jury-rigged for the moment. They’ve come to realize that this is an opportunity to reshape the mold of their new society. Instead of being a colony – a subordinate – they would forge a new interstellar dominion and create a society of MANY united colonies.

Tomorrow hath come! (though it'll be a number of hours still...)

@Global Nexus: Looks great, no complaints from me. :)

Intergalactic Corporation
Leader: Chief Executive Gnork / Sheep
Home system: Huris - 3 warpgates
Attributes: Imperialistic Drive (strong colony stability)
Production: 40 (0 banked)
Trade: None
Travel speed: 1 gate/turn
Colonized systems:
- Huris 40/[MPC] ([R-levels])
Army and Fleet deployment:
- Huris: 1000 infantry, 3 Scouts, 140 Fighters
Researched Technologies: None
Description: Huris, home of terror, blood and near anarchy, until Intergalictic Corporation made a hostile takeover of the planetary government and reinstated order. Now Intergalactic looks out on the neighbouring systems realising that it is their mission to expand the corporation, expand their profits and expand order in this galaxy and beyond.

Great Sheep (if a bit generic ;)), that's 7 factions up now! More, more! And hurry, all the best spots on the map are being taken! ;)

Why are you not letting factions join later?
