Prince Philip, and DMX, died today

Not funny, Birdjaguar. How would you and your fellow American members here like it if I were to post mocking drivel about a recently-deceased politically significant individual in your country who was generally regarded as a bit of a curmudgeon but not a generally bad person, who had a job to do and did it reasonably well for about 70 years?

And before anyone says Prince Philip was politically insignificant in Canada, it's not the person himself so much as the role he played (that would have been filled no matter who the Queen married). It's a bonus that he was able to be so supportive of her for all these decades.

It's also a constitutional thing.

And of course there are monarchists here who hope the Queen is being adequately supported by her family, as we'd like her to stick around as long as possible.

I think you misread my post.

I wouldn't care at all

Reading about the guy... he was a WW2 vet. He was actually in naval combat too. He gets bonus badass points from me for that, RIP.

If Mitch McConnell died I would celebrate.

Well regarding DMX, Michael Jackson also departed this world at age 50; and Whitney Houston
left us at 49, just short of 50, so it seems to be a critical die or survive age in that particular profession.

As for Prince Philip his mother-in law, Queen Elizabeth, consort to King George beat him by making the ton.

I suppose the lesson is that if longevity is your goal, aim to be royal rather than an energetic musician.

Being Irish, I don't care about Prince Phillip at all, and I had never heard of this DMX guy until I heard that he is dead. However, I would like to offer my condolences to anyone here mourning their deaths.

I think you misread my post.
Then please point out the part of this post that was meant to be funny and/or respectful:

Should all those over 95 wear a "walking corpse" name tag? Perhaps we should just shut them down at 95 and save many millions of wasted healthcare dollars? They are better off dead right? We are all better off with them dead, right? :p

I'm not asking anyone to shed tears over Prince Philip - just have a bit of respect - not only for him, but for the elderly in general who have been generally seen as expendable and not worth the effort of being treated with respect or compassion during the pandemic.

I assure you, I'm not making fun of Prince Philip because he was old, I'm making fun of him because he presumably believed that his "royal blood" made him a qualitatively superior type of being

Yeah putting that walking corpse in the same thread as my man is definitely disrespectful to DMX

To begin, my post was in response to Lexicus and his "walking corpse" and directed at him specifically. Second, it was full of mostly preposterous suggestive questions: name tags, killing people to save money, being better off with fewer very old people who would have included my mother. Thirdly and quite obivously: :p .

A non serious post by Lexicus certainly deserves a non serious reply.

who was generally regarded as a bit of a curmudgeon but not a generally bad person

Prince Philip to British students in China said:
If you stay here much longer you'll all be slitty-eyed
Prince Philip to a British backpacker who had visited Papua New Guinea said:
You managed not to get eaten then?
Prince Philip to an Australian Aboriginal leader said:
Do you still throw spears at each other?
Prince Philip said:
If it has four legs and is not a chair, has wings and is not an aeroplane, or swims and is not a submarine, the Cantonese will eat it.
etc.

who had a job to do and did it reasonably well for about 70 years?

his job was existing and having cameras all around him, making him about as important as the average Big Brother contestant

Apparently, DMX had like 15 kids.....
BBC said:
Born in Mount Vernon, New York in 1970, DMX publicly battled substance abuse for years and spent several periods in rehab.

A father of 15, he served jail sentences on charges including animal cruelty, reckless driving, drug possession and weapons possession.

According to his family, DMX died on Friday at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, New York.

"He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him," their statement continued.

I was about to say that you all need to enjoy more 90s Rap, but a good part was apparently the early 2000s.

His best song, IMHO.

etc.

Yeah, Prince Philip was super funny :D.

(yeah, not intentional, I know)

We shouldn't make fun of that creepy old man. He was raised from birth to be an awkward tabloid celebrity puppet and deprived of the autonomous life we all deserve. He was a victim of a sick backwards state sponsored cult.

Anyway I dare each of you to say Prince Philip three times in the bathroom mirror before going to bed.

This falls under the category of something you and others familiar with Lexicus' posting style would know but the average person would not know.

And if anyone finds the notion of killing people to save money to be funny... that's one of the reasons Aimee hasn't been inclined to post here anymore. It's not a joke if you're elderly and trapped in a nursing home that's skimped on safety protocols to save money (dunno how it's been in the U.S., but here in Canada a seniors' home is the very last place you'd want to be in this pandemic if you want to live through it; some of them are utter deathtraps), and it's not a joke if you're disabled and scared of what's coming every time your sociopathic premier opens his mouth about cutting funding.

etc.

I never said he was a nice person. Some of the things he said were reprehensibly bigoted, and no doubt there were plenty of staff around who would have liked to tell him that those are things you just don't say when you're acting in a diplomatic capacity.

However... whatever we may think of Prince Philip, it's the Queen's point of view that matters most:

How Prince Philip, like Prince Albert, was a pillar of support to his Queen and the monarchy
