There is an option, maybe a mod that allows you to produce units from an earlier era. For example, instead of a modern tank, it is a regular tank, etc.
I really dislike when I get a Tech advance that invalidates an earlier unit but I don't have the resource needed to support the new unit type so I am completely unable to build a particular type of unit. Often an out-of-date unit with a particular ability, for example bombard, is better than none at all.
