Lets see, I would like Naira. Story to come as soon as its done :p

I like what I see so far. And water-based polytheism? I get to do it better than in MjM's NES. I shall wait for stats/description for sure, but so far I am strongly leaning towards them.

“Grandfather,” the small child pleaded; “Tell us the story of the creation of all things. Please!”
“Yes, my little ones,” and he gathered the six small children close about him in the bow of the large canoe. The sea was calm and the skies clear; the stars seemed close enough to touch.

“Once upon a time…”
“No!” the six children shouted in unison. “Not that one, the real story.”
“Ah…OK.” He began again.

Wula dwelt within the great Nothingness that had always been. Wula dwelt within the great Nothingness that had no end or edge, no top or bottom. Wula dwelt within the great Nothingness that never changed. And Wula was the great Nothingness, but did not know it for Wula slept the sleep of ignorance of who she was. In her sleep she dreamt the first dream and in that dream she was alone under a dark sky. And Wula knew loneliness and for the first time sadness. And she wept the first tears and filled the empty hollows of her heart with the first ocean. And the great sea brought delight to Wula and she laughed the first laugh and filled the great sea around her with dry land born of that first joy. And the land she called Reo. In her delight Wula moved in the vast ocean and waves rolled across the surface of the sea and splashed upon the land with laughter of their own. And as Wula laughed and the ocean laughed, the land sang. And the laughter and song of that first moment hung in the great black sky and shone with brightness and remembrance of that time. And the sky lights were call pio or stars. And it is that song and that first laughter that we, the Waipio, “people of the stars” seek in all our journeys.

And long into the balmy night the old man told the stories of Wula and her dreamtime adventures. The story of Wula, Koa and the creation of the first great canoe was so popular that he had to tell it twice. And the death of Ludi at the hands of evil Mu was so sad and terrifying that the children wept and hugged one another. His cadence matched the rhythm of the sea and lapping of the waves and the twinkle of the stars and before the watch changed, the children all slept.

Nation: Waipio

I'd like to restate my claim to the New Telerian Empire, though I will wait for a nation description before writing any stories.

Not a plottish story, but it serves to introduce some aspects of Daeol.

Karoe[1] brought his horse up short 20 feet from the low-slung earthen wall. Taking his time, he slipped from Ferocity’s back and onto the dry ground. The cloud of dust which had tailed him all the way from Ibyca[2] caught up. Ferocity, usually the purest white, turned dun from the dirt. Karoe’s throat burned form the dust and from the long ride with little to drink, but he had his purpose. He marched out of the dispersing cloud of dust and toward the stone-reinforced gate that marked the entrance to the city of Thais.[3]

Thais was the oldest city in Daeol, though not the most populous. Ibyca, Karoe’s home, housed an immense fifty thousand persons year-round. Its lakeside[4] location gave Ibyca fresh water at all times, an absolute necessity for such a large urban center. Thais could not boast such an advantage. Though the King’s seat, somewhat fewer than twenty thousand persons resided in coastal Thais, fewer even than in mountain-bound Pegoe.[5] Upon entering the city, Kairoe felt the emptiness of its walls. The city did not reach its fortifications, instead sprawling along the coastline to the north. It was said in Ibyca that the Thaisons[6] kept a diet of only fish and drank only the dead water of the sea. Karoe knew this to be untrue, having come to Thais before on royal business, but the city’s connection to the mortality of the ocean felt unnatural.

He had but brief business in Thais as it was. The Searc[7] of Ibyca, easily the most powerful of King Dymas’s subjects had handed him, the fastest rider in the city by the lake, a missive for the king’s eyes only, and he took it without question. The unnatural nature of the city only made him wish more fervently to complete the task more quickly.

[3]THAY-is
[4]Ibyca is located about due south of Thais on the plains. The lake is presumably too small to appear on the larger map of the cradle.
[5]PEG-goh-ay, located in the foothills of the mountains to the west of Thais
[6]THAY-is-sahn
[7]A Searc (SAY-ark) is a bit like a viceroy or a duke. “Arc” means ruler or king.

I saw something written somewhere about a people called the Heleni. I demand more knowledge about these peoples. Failing that, I demand to know if you have something Greco in this giant world. Failing that, I shall pick something else in Arios and engage storywriting engines.

Well, the nations in the Celian Sea are vaguely Greek, but also vaguely Roman. Nothing is specifically Greco... However, you can always make one in the cradle. ;)

Can I start on the western coast of the Cradle Bay? Just by the river outlet is great.

Rats/Carp. Any chance for me starting on the other side, on whatever land that's hidden by the shroud?

You could start a bit south of Niklas...between the northern river and the (smaller) peninsula.

What is the reason for this reluctance to reveal more of the map? Is there some sinister evil lurking just beyond the horizon? :scared:

Anyway, I'll start between the two mountain ranges a bit inland, then. Here's for hoping there's a shore to the west as well!

EDIT: Oh, and I'll start out as a nomadic people, so don't assign a capital yet. I'll forcibly reveal the western lands! :D

Or die trying. Not that I'm saying anything, of course. :mischief:

Back for the day, but previously unbeknownst to me I will be gone Friday and most of Saturday as well, so it's crunch time for me ;)

Commencing literary-refuse-system

Any chance I could get a little info on Aelten for a story? I think I'll go with them.

Aelten's forces are of high quality, with a mix of mercenaries and fanatical peasant militia. The region was never fully integrated into Buridisia, and still retains fairly strong Kantic influences. Their religious traditionalism sets them at odds with both Princeps and the other rebel factions, as does their dream of establishing a separate, non-Buridisian nation.

Lord Kellus is no general, but as Aelten's leader he retains major influence with many nations, especially Kantic Halidom and Taenevix. Of course, negotiation with Princeps isn't impossible, if Aelten is willing to switch its allegiance...

You can feel free to improvise the remaining details.

When's the rest of the map going to be completely revealed? If it's at any time soon.

When you discover it. Or it discovers you. :mischief:

By the way, by my count we have 43 (individual) signups for PureNES so far, not counting das who's withdrawn. I think that's a new record in NESing history.

But how many are story claimed? ;)

I do believe that j_d and I are the only ones to write for both sides of the world at the moment. Is that correct?

Furthermore, how is religion in Gosica? Which sect of Seraphism do they follow there, and how influential is it in the nation?
