Push up record?

Thats how many I could do consecutively, but the thread's question was how many you could do 'in a day.'
Oh wait, hold the phone, in a whole day? Like with resting and massages and stuff in between? At least 100.

Yeah, at least that's what I gather from the opening post.

That's why I said "I dunno" at the beginning, followed with "but" and an explanation of how many I could do consecutively.

I never count how many I do in a day, but in one set I do 40-60 depending on how I feel

I can't do 100 consecutively (I stop somewhere after 50-60 and then DOMS (Delayed onset muscle soreness) sets in and stays there for more than a day), but I've gotten to some 200 in a day, I think. Never really bothered to add up the series. :)

Ever? About 100 at one time, and 200 in a day (4 sets of 50), more or less.

I could probably have done more at the time, but it's good to do different exercises during a workout, core, cardio, legs, etc. Pushups alone would unbalance your overall strength.

Hmm, I just started working out again this week after a 6 month break, so I think I have my push up target for next month!

Holy . .. .. .. ., I can't believe all the people that can do 100 pushups in a row. That's way more people than I expected on this forum.

When I was in track and we did pushups everyday, the coach as punishment made me do 75 pushups once and I actually did them. I was surprised. I definitely couldn't do that now. I could probably get to 40 if I pushed myself. I'm not really concerned with it, as I'm training for power and strength right now in the winter, and I'll do more strength endurance in the spring.

100 consecutive pushups? Are you sure those are legitimate (i.e. not too fast, nose almost touches ground, butt doesn't stick high )?

The most I've ever done consecutively is 51. I could do more if I did "easy" pushups like not bringing my nose down enough but what's the fun in that?

Wow, it seems like many of you guys are in good push-up shape...keep it up!

And I edited my OP to show that I do them in sets of 25. 25 pushups is probably the optimal number for me to do good pushups and then rest, do them again, etc. I don't do 500 in a row, I do 25 and 25 in the morning (say, after breakfast), I do another 25 whenever I watch tv (usually during commercials), 25 doing homework (pushups are more fun than homework), etc.

:goodjob:

Oh, and I don't do 500 a day (that was just my best day). 100-200 is enough for me.

There was one day in boot camp where I received something in the mail I shouldn't have (candy, I think), and I was forced to eat it all and do push-ups until I was told to stop. The Drill Instructor forgot about me after mail-call ended and I wound up doing push-ups for a good 2-3 hours before the DI remembered me. I would have easily eclipsed 500 that day.

I've been quite surprised to see this too. I thought I could do many but being at 50-60 consecutive at most it seems I'm actually behind most people in this thread. Well, good for them if they are real, correct push-ups.

I use a slightly different neck position, the kind that I do I usually stick my chin into the ground, so I'm kinda holding my neck upwards during the whole process. Is that considered incorrect? I've never done them with my face down as to touch the ground with the nose, I would find it pretty gross. :p (considering I don't trust the cleanliness of the places I'm doing them in) I guess putting your nose down would lower pressure on your neck, but again it's too gross for me to risk almost touching the ground with my nose & mouth. ;)

I did 10 pushups every min for ~60 min once. I have played the pushup game with a deck of cards twice in a row, thats like 400 pushups.

The most I've ever done in a row is like 60-70.

Exactly why I answered 2.

when you say 500, it seems like a lot, but when I realized it was just 10 sets of 50, it doesnt seem all that much.

I never kept count, but I'm sure I did something close to that, if not more in my wrestling and football days.

Edit : I didn't mean to sound like a jerk one-upper, sorry if it comes off that way.

It still sounds pretty painful to me, especially if the sets were done a respectable rate (in under a couple minutes). I think 150-200 a day is a reasonable high.

This http://www.recordholders.org/en/list/pushups.html has some intense claims though. 10K / day!

I do my pushups in my bedroom on a clean floor so I have no worries there. Sometimes I do them with this new device I got, the "perfect push up." I think your way is just as good as mine.

Looks like I have my new goal. :goodjob: 500 is like, what? 5% of the record? So I'm getting there.

Got 94 Consecutive push ups just now!
