Questions about The BUG Mod

Hey EF, its been awhile since I've installed bull and I've compeletely forgot how to do it. Could you or someone else walk me through the process b/c I really don't feel like searching through 76 pages to find it myself.

EDIT: Wow i'm stupid never mind. Just found the readme, stupid winzip didn't show everything in folders.

i cant regenerate my map, is this a design problem or was that made to correct an error of some kind..?

This was broken in BUG 4.3. It is fixed in the code repository if you want to use that, but otherwise it will be fixed in BUG 4.4.

What are you guys using to create the CHM help files? I'd like to edit them to by mod-specific, but can't seem to find any good editors.

Alerum builds them from the source HTML files using a tool. We don't hand-edit the CHM files.

I can't easily tell if this is from BUG/BULL or simply 3.19. On the relations screen (with the lines going from figurehead to figurehead), if two civs have a vassal relationship & open borders, only the vassal relationship line shows (cyan). Two lines show just fine for those that have a defensive pact and open borders.

I took a look in the BUG 4.2 info folder and opened the English help file. Under contents there is a list of the included mods. I thought clicking on one would bring up further info on it but not so. I get a notification "navigation to the webpage was canceled".

I understand you priority is getting the product out rather than explaining the details but I thought maybe the original mod designers had documentation. Using Advanced Scoreboard as an example, I tried Googling it but no luck. Checked the fanatics mod area but no go there either. I'm looking for an explanation of the green/red numbers that appear immediately to the right of the scores.

A special blessing on all of you direct from the Shwedagon Pagoda. BUG is a great addition to the game. Just simple stuff like turning the espionage possibilities green works wonders.

Strange, I have no trouble with the links. Are you on Windows? XP? In any case, there's always the BUG Mod Online Help.

The Advanced Scoreboard is actually an original BUG creation (mostly). Those numbers are known as the Score Deltas--the change in the player's score since last turn. It is the "Z" code in the Display Order entry box.

It turns out that when I am in-game there's no trouble with the help - the same browser window works - I can click on any of the mods and get the information I want. But without CIV4 running, no go. I can live with that easily.

Thanks for the help on the delta numbers.

I'm using Better AI with BUG 4.2 and I like the way the peons use their heads now. :)

BUG opens the help file by telling Windows to "launch" the file--just as if you were to double-click it in Windows Explorer. How are you opening it outside the game? If you right-click it and select Properties, what type of file does it say it is?

After unzipping 4.2 and before installing it, I opened the info folder and then the ENG help.

Just now, I downloaded the 4.3 zip and did the same. No problem.

Wow, the CDA mod with BUG blew me out of my chair. May I will my entire estate to someone in return for this? I'll include the life-size bust of Dan Quayle!

I'm confused, however, by the defense column on the Military Overview screen.

taking one of my cities, for example, I see 79% at the city bar for defense. If I open the city screen it displays +99 (+99) at top right, which, as I understand it, are physical and cultural defense values, the higher of which should apply.

For this city in the Military Overview, I get a defense rating of 105%.

How do all of these different defense figures tie together?

I'm confused, however, by the defense column on the Military Overview screen.

It's the plot's defense value, so it will include +25% if the city is on a hill.

I have been attempting to install the latest BUG mod and getting the message, " Error opening file for writing C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Bug Mod 4.3\Assets\Art\BUG\arm.dds." I have installed Windows 7 and given "trusted installer" full access to all subfolders and files. I check the box to install it for "multiplayer" or to run as a regular Mod.

I update BUG and BULL (I've done this a number of times with no problems) and ran into a problem with the interface. Everything works fine, except when I want to talk to leaders I don't get any text (as the pic below shows). Any idea how to fix this.

@Dirty Parrot:

Are you using BAT by any chance? BUG and BULL shouldn't mix up the diplomacy text at all.

It looks like the game can't find the diplo text files in \XML\Text\, and/or the Actual Quotes diplo files if you have BAT loaded.

If you are using BAT as well, have a peek in your Assets\Modules\ folder, please, and make sure that you find an Actual Quotes folder and that it has files in it. :)

@LM

No, I'm just using BUG and BULL. I tried playing the game with BUFFY and they weren't any problems and since iirc BUFFY uses BULL as well, my guess would be that there was a problem with the SVN from BUG. I noticed that one of the files being replaced was considerably different size. I'll probably try another SVN update, but just replace the files in XML/Text and see how that goes. Thanks for your input.

Not 100% accurate. I have seen this sort of error reported when the game is being logged and the logger runs into a diplo event it hasn't seen before ... it throws a python error and the diplo screen build is interrupted.

Do you have a save prior to the error? If so, can you unload BUG, play the save to see what the diplo screen would have been and then we can see if this will throw an error. Alternatively, turn on error logging and post the error logs (EF should have instructions for this somewhere in one of his posts).
