Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Is there anywhere that has the different map configurations listed with descriptions? I usually play Terra since according the the manual, it's most like Earth. I just started a game with continents but haven't gotten far enough to see the differences.

Astaldo you may find descriptions on whatever overview applies to you (Civ4/Warlords/Beyond the Sword) on the left side of this website's mainpage www.civfanatics.com . I like the unpredictability of fractal, which I guess is what Earth was like to the founders of Civilisation.

Sirian posted one for all the mapscripts included in the original release - unfortunately it does not include the new map types...

Astaldo, if you want to play and actual Earth Map, look under scenarios.

Now for my own question

Is there anyway to control who your vassal is when you form a colony, or control the name, besides changing the game programing? I like naming my colonies' cities with weird names (once, listening to my iTunes, i named all of the cities after British Invasion bands.), so I wish i could control what the name is, like British Invasion instead of America. Any ideas??

I'm fairly sure that in the regular game, the leader/civilization that controls a colony is randomly selected, and you can't do anything to choose who you want. Nor can you control the name of the leader or civilization of the colony, unfortunately.

However, I suspect that such a thing would be possible to mod into the game, and it might even have already been done. I'd advise you to check out the Creation and Customization forum - you may be able to request such a mod even if it doesn't exist yet. :)

I just had a quick question about the Spiral Minaret Wonder -- I built it in game with Judaism as my State Religion ... and lots of 'Jewish' buildings, however got no money from this wonder even though it should not have been obsolete...any idea why?

Thanks!

How do you know this for sure?

First of all when you built it, your gold-per-turn figure should have gone up by a certain amount the turn it came online.

Second you don't just get a lump sum, you get extra money per turn.

Third, do you have a save to upload so someone here can take a look at what's happening and how much the Minaret should be bringing in?

Welcome to the forums, btw.

the gold given by the spiral minaret is given by the temples/monasteries/cathedrals themselves, not by the spiral minaret

It's not "the SM gives you 2 gold per building", it's "each building produces 2 gold", quite different

Exactly. So if you go into a city with a Temple or Monastery or Cathedral, you'll find if you mouse over the building in the list that it's now producing +2 gold per turn in that city. ;)

If it makes u feel any better I was also confused asd. It is the same with the University of Sankore (maybe only in bts)

How do I upload a scenario I made from World Builder (BTS) onto the civfanatics downloads screen??

Every so often there are two latitudinal lines that show up on the map for a couple of turns...usually kind of a luminious white...what are those called and why do they show up?

And, does anyone have a problem with them showing up multicolored instead of white? (I'm posting about this in the Tech sub forum, but I don't know what the lines are or why they show up.)

Okay, just got the game, and I'm playing with no AIs just to get the hang of the interface and that. (I don't like tutorials.) Anyways, it says I got a Conquest Victory. And now I'm in the modern era, and in the upper right hand corner, it says "X Turns Left."

What does it mean? Will it end the game?

Thanks. Right now its at 85.

That's how many turns it is until 2050, at which point a time victory will be given to whoever is leading in points. The game will give you an option to exit to main menu or to keep playing. You can turn off time victory in the custom game menu.

Thank you. I was worried it would end the game, as I want to continue to improve my cities.

:)

you will be able to continue, but not anymore to win.

If you want to play a game after 2050 AND win, you have to disable "time victory" from the game you play.

Actually, if you're playing a game by yourself, you automatically get an early Conquest Victory (which is what aimeeandbeatles said earlier). So you can't then win by any other method after that. ;)

If you want to win a game by some other victory condition, you'll need to play a game with some other players in it. :)

Thank s everybody!!

Does anybody here know where's a good place to look for help on how to start modding my own games??
