You're saying that a friendly civ with only one of each resource will show nothing in in the resources column. Isn't it still possible for human civs to trade resources even if there are no duplicates?

Yes and yes.

I haven't played multiplayer, so I don't know how the trade table works for human opponents. But, for AI opponents, their resources will only show up for trade if they have extra ones. Even though "the rules" would theoretically permit them to trade their only instance of a resource.

Anybody figure out if you can erase or alter the Hall of Fame? I chose the default name at the beginning thinking it would name me the leader's usual name (Isabella), but it called me "DPLG311". This is a very stupid name for my HOF entry and I would like to alter it if possible.

Heh, it used your computer's "name" as the default. I don't think you can change your name now (unless maybe you messed with the savegame file), but it's no big deal, right? YOU know that "DPLG311" is actually "Zelda's Man", right?

Am I limited to one Permanent Alliance?

If so, is intentional? Is see no reference to PA's being limited in the manual.

I sucked up to FDR the whole game then he allied himself with Hatty!

Hello

If I have accepted a request by some civ to stop trading with a third party, they no longer wish to talk to me.

Does that ever change? If yes, what can I do to make them like me again? How long will it take?

In my game, it even turned out that I declared war on the civ who made the request to stop trading, but the victim still refuses to "hear anymore of my lies".

What can I do, if anything, to start trading with them again?

- this is an emperor game, and I really really need to be able to trade wit them, to catch up in tech. YOu know, the whole "research some stupid tech far up the tech tree that no one has, and sell it to everyone for all their techs, catching up significantly for the price of only researching one tech" type of thing.

how often do you find barbarian cities,
i started my first game lastnight with the map set for terra and the default settings, after exploring growing etc, i find there are 2 major continents and all the civs are on the same continent as me, now since everyone else is less advanced then me ( they have galleys im upto ironclads) i send some settlers and explorers in galleons to the new lands, and the explorers find some roads, so i follow the roads and come across barbarian workers, shortly followed by finding 3 barbarian cities, followed by pointy stabby death for my explorers, on the brightside i send some infantry over shortly after wards and now have 3 already established cities

Now, with 1.52, you are limited to 1 permanent alliance, but before than you cold have more than one. Now the only way is through the initally game setup.

Very often if you or the ai doesn't visit often (like in the case of the terra map, where the barbarians can have free reign for long periods, to the point of constructing wonders), but if you have units roaming around they will not form as often.

They will stop talking to you for 10 turns, but I don't know if that is influenced by how much they hate you already.

Thanks for the answer lost_civantares. Do you know why they changed it?

Time to smack some sense into FDR and his new buddy! :spank:

Probably to prevent too much ganging up on people? To be honest I don't remember the reason, but if you look around it's probably in the stratagy forums.

Have fun crushing poor unwise FDR!

ahhh k, i noticed that their units were more technologically advanced than a couple of the other civs

I hope the following question won't sound too stupid.

Is there a text based version of Civ 4? Maybe something like mud to play over telnet, or play over email by entering text commands?

Thanks for your input.

What triggers "We love the president/monarch etc" in a city???
I've been trying to get this answered for a week now.:(

It happened a couple more times to me last night. I think it has something to do with happiness. The only similarity between cities that I could identify is that the happy faces exceeded the unhappy faces by at least 5. Perhaps this event is triggered when there's a significant gap between happiness and unhappiness level.

That's only speculation. Seems kind of a flimsy reason. I'll keep looking for causes.

Yes, it's strange. Perhaps there is a percentage chance of getting it from the difference between happy and unhappy faces.

Could please someone tell exactly :mischief:

There is a percentage chance when the number of happy people exceeds the number of unhappy. The city must also not be unhealthy or starving, and must be a certain minimum size (6?).

Question: How much culture is needed on Marathon speed per city to win a Cultural victory?

For a cultural victory it's 25K at quick speed, 50K at normal, 75K at epic and 150K at marathon. It always corresponds to the legendary culture value.
