Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Here's my quick question. I just restarted playing BTS after a long break. I recently hit the tech to build Attack Submarines and have access to uranium, but they are greyed out on my build menu. I have NOT yet researched fission, but according to the Civlopedia it is not a prereq. Ideas?

This is one of the stupid things they don't tell you about in the Civilopedia. You can mine Uranium at Physics, but you can't use it to build anything until Fission.

Changing the game speed changes how many turns it takes to build improvements, build buildings & units, and research techs. My math may not be perfect, but if a tech takes 3 turns at Quick to research, it'll take 6 turns at Normal, 12 to research at Epic and, I believe, 18 at Marathon (never play Marathon).

The slower speeds have more turns in a game to make up for it. Very few people play Quick. Marathon isn't scaled quite the same - units are cheaper relative to buildings at Marathon.

Where the differences comes in is that units move the same # of tiles, regardless of game speeds. Therefore, on Marathon, you may have everything explored by the time you research your third tech.

This has 2 consequences for war. After you build a military force, it takes a longer time to go obsolete at slower speeds. At quick, you can build an army of Swordsmen and, by the time they get to the enemy, Macemen are available. Generally, the slower the speed, the better for a warmonger strategy. Also, faster units are more valuable at faster speeds. This definitely includes India's Fast Worker - the best UU at Quick, practically worthless at Marathon.

9 at Epic.

I figured this might be the case. Thanks for the confirmation.

How do favourite civics work? Does the AI just look on you more favourably if (say) you have vassalage and it is their favourite civic?

Yes. You get some positive diplomacy points, the number varies with the leader.

Hi!
How do i add a civilization to a custom senario/map in worldeditor. Is this even possible?

I suppose this question could be directed towards fireaxis, but when BTS came out with the inclusion of great spies, why weren't they given options for bulbing?

Because they can be used to steal techs?

Two questions.

1. Is it possible to send replays in my Hall of Fame to a friend so they can see?

2. How do I use Custom Music? I like Baba Yetu, but I'd love to have my own music file in the game playing. I see a music option in Options for this but I can't get the custom to work...

  1. Yes. All the replays are files found in C:\Users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Replays, or thereabouts.
  2. In-game, go to Options, Audio Tab, and check the Custom Music box. Use the Browse button to locate and select a folder containing music you want to listen to while playing. Click on OK.

Civ4 is one of the few games allowing you to change the music with no problems ... and one of the few games where few feel the need for it

if I have two units on a tile and one has Woodsman III and the other has Medic, does the healing stack?

Question:

I've been looking around but havent been able to find the "personalities" of the leaders. I hear terms like peaceweight and which leaders usually pursue which victories, but is there a table or something anywhere that can describe each leader?

And you didn't got any meaningful response there :p

In resume, no, the AI does not get scared out of showing them your army. In peace, the only thing they care is your power/their power ... only in war they care a little about where you have the army , but only for targetting issues.
