Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Can someone guide me to like a refernce table or something where I can see what starting bonuses the AI gets on higher difficulty levels.

Like

Noble - all fair
Prince - some production boosts...
Monarch - ??
Immortal - ?
Deity - All basic techs, extra settler and archers or something.

I´ve been searching the web to no avail. Help me.

no, I had already found that one.

This one is too deep for me.

More simple, like only the starting units that a (higher than noble AI) starts with. And what techs.

But thanks for quick reply you are a very kind nerd.

I mean nerd in a good way. We nerds are rad.

right at the bottom of the first page it says exactly what free techs the AI get on each difficulty.
In the yellowish section the line "iAIStartingDefenseUnits" shows how many units the AI get, and I presume it will be the best unit they could build, according to tech (which is gonna be archers I guess, cos you need metal for spears) - the line below shows worker units

Ah, thank you very much. Very helpful. I can not read the Reference guide standard. I dont have acrobat reader. (not my computer here, I´m at moms and she got old computer.)

But according to my calculations I can assume it is something like this.

Prince - 1 extra scout no Techs
Monarch - 2 Archers, 1 Worker and Archery Tech
Emperor - 2 Archers, 1 Worker, 1 Scout and Archery and hunting (can you get Archery without hunting?)
Immortal - 3 Archers, 1 Worker, 1 Scout and Archery, hunting and agriculture
Deity - 4 Archers, 1 Worker, 1 Scout, 1 Settler and Archery, hunting, agriculture and the wheel.

I assumed iStartingUnitMultiplier 1 gives one extra settler? Could this be right?

Thank you all again, civ community is extremely nice

Deity AI gets 1 extra settler, yeah. I think immortal gets 2 workers? Maybe they changed that in BtS.

If you haven't got currency so you can build wealth, you either didn't research it (its a useful tech though, do it!) or have overexpanded in the early game or have millions of units

You can't build espionage, but you can put commerce into it, the slider appears when you meet a rival.

Just clarifying from yesterday. Yes you can actually build Espionage in the production que (outside of a slider adjustment) upon the discovery of Paper. Thought that was the case, but wasn't sure until I checked this morning.

I've never been able to build espionage. Are you sure you're not playing with a modded game?

What is the difference between certain victories? I know what some of them mean (like space race) but i don't understand the other ones. Like, what does a "time" victory mean?

Time victory = having the highest score when the game ends in 2050 AD.
Cultural victory = having 3 cities with "legendary" culture (amount of culture required depends upon game speed).
Conquest victory = eliminating or vassalizing all other civilizations.
Domination victory = conquering 60% (IIRC) of the world's population and territory.
Diplomatic victory = your civilization and others cast a sufficient number of votes for you to win; requires either the Apostolic Palace (with the AP religion spread to at least one city in all civs on the globe) or the UN.

Ahh, that would probably be the issue. I'm playing a regular custom game, but using the PIG mod. I've never played anything in BtS outside of PIG or BAT, and always with BUG. I was very late getting into the BtS side of things only in the last year, so I've never played it straight up. Sorry if I misled anyone. Happy Holidays.

That would explain. I've not tried PIG yet, although its ready to go.
There's some cool additions, but I don't particularly like the sound of this one... But I'm used to BTS espionage and I get stuck in my ways :D unless they maybe changed some of the mission thresholds? I dunno... they probably did a good job

Where are all these barbarians coming from? They popped up around 1AD (I'm probably off), and they're coming at me from two directions. D:

Barbarians spawn spontaneously and randomly on any tiles that are hidden in the "fog of war", which is those tiles that have a grayish overcast. However, this applies to the visibility of all civs. So, if you can't "see" the tile but an AI can, the barbs won't spawn there. At first you have no opposition, after a certain number of turns, wild animals start spawning. After another lapse of time, you get barbarians instead of wild animals. A while after that, the barbarians will start founding cities, which can then build more barbarians, whether you can see the city or not. If you are getting loads of barbarians, you can cut down on them by posting units outside your borders so they can "see" more tiles. Folks call this fog busting.

To answer to Cleo make a few chariots/horse archers (if u have horses) and explore ur area. Usualy if realy many are coming it means they made a city near you.

And now my question. You know when u build cottages and they grow to hamlets and now give 2 commerce. I am financial and i get the 1 bonus commerce then. Does that bonus survive the growth to villadge or does it go away? I never actualy paid attention to it and now I started asking myself, but dont have time to test it so if someone could answer I would be grateful

if a certain barbarian area is hidden by the fog really long into the game, can they get high-tech units? like fighters and tanks and stuff like that?

All tiles with 2 or more commerce receive +1 commerce from the Financial trait.

well i think they can but there is no way the AI wont destroy em before that, the best units i have seen possesed by barbarians were grenadiers in a Earth scenario when i rly didnt feel like exploring America

ok thanks
