Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Ahh, my bad then I didn't realize that. Been playing LoR and RevDcm for so long I tend to forget. I stand corrected!

Not in unmodded civ4... Chopping a jungle is 0 hammers (you do get +1 food though for removing the jungle).
Also, the base worker time (normal speed) to chop a forest is 3 turns, vs 4 turns for a jungle.

while we're on the subject of forests/jungle, the latter requires Iron working, which can be a pain in a heavy jungle start, because you ain't doing anything for a while. Jungles give unhealthiness, no bonus and also spread quicker IIRC?
I wonder why jungles are so lame, there are no redeeming factors? The only possible plus point is that you find them on large grassland areas, which is great for productivity once the jungle is cleared
(and give defense, but that can work against you too)

It's because the underlying terrain is always grassland. Is also because the middle of the map is already pretty fertile.
You can also use them for the national park and they also reduce global warming.

Jungle also tends to host many of the nice Calendar resources, as well as Gems. I guess it adds some flavour to the map, which can be a good thing - if all the terrain generated on every map was extremely fertile, it'd arguably make for less interesting games.

Besides, abundant jungle is far nicer to have than abundant tundra or desert - or even abundant plains sometimes. Sure it's a challenge in pre-Iron Working times, but not an insurmountable one. :)

IF you have all jungle, IW rush! Swords + the solving of your problem!
Esp. with Rome.

with those points in mind it actually makes an interesting comparison - the quick production you can get from forests vs the productive land you eventually benefit from.
cool :)

It specifically says Legendary. I have confirmed that Culture victories are enabled.

You retired from the same game earlier which gave you an entry in your hall of fame. Then you did reload the game and played it until the end but nothing happens when you trigger the VC (this happened to me once). It this possible?

Once a game is won (or lost) you can keep playing, which is what it sounds like here. However, you will not be credited with any further victories. Definitely possible, in fact that's the way the game is set up.

Sometimes when you're going for a HOF score from one victory condition you have to be careful you don't trigger another one. I remember cases of people trying not to trigger a culture victory when they're playing for a time victory or having to stop all war and not take another vassal if they're going for culture and can't afford to trigger a domination victory.

You can't disable the other victories for HOF?

Nope, you need to have all victory conditions enabled for the official HoF. That's why time victories suck so hard ;)

ouch :scared:

Now this is very interesting. I never considered leaving any of it around to be used for a national park, i've never built the thing. So what your saying is that in the case of Nat'l Park, jungle works in the same manner as a forest?

Not really... you can work forest and get the free specialist. But with jungle you only get the specialist. (why would you work a 1 food tile, even with environmentalism, it's only 1 food 2 commerce).

If you turn on debug mode, and see the AI attitudes, what do the numbers/colors mean?

Is there an easy way to make the game always spawn forest on all tundra tiles when creating the map? Easy means by changing something in an xml-file or something like that.
